Defiantly will start right away. I'm guessing left bench.

My only thing is, the guy kind of reminds me of McQ, only McQ is probably more athletic.

But Flo is a FA after this year and Colombo signed a short deal.

I wish we had taken either a backup DT instead of this guy, Fergy is not getting any younger.

I would have preferred that we stay at #53 and take C Ryan Kalil (Carolina took him at #59) as we have no depth at the position and Kalil can also play OG.

Oh well.
couldn't agree more, cant believe we traded out and passed

Purely for depth. Potential starter maybe. Would have preferred Tyler as NG.

looking at the bright-side, he's a BC lineman, and they seem to generally do well in the NFL, and he moves really well for a man who stands nearly 6'8"

Interesting that they said he has the ability to play all along the OL including center if he devoted time to it. His addition gives us some decent quality depth which we currently lack.

Tyler may well still be there in the 4th but Marten was almost surely going to hear his name before much longer. 6'8, 315 pound tackles aren't growing on trees. Given Flo's penchant for false starts, his age, and his late-season performance slide - I like the pick. I can totally see him getting playing time this year, and he'll give us depth on either side right away.

For what it's worth, he was probably the concensus 3rd or 4th best OT in every draft guide I read (and I read a lot of them).

Flozell is a FA after this year, and Colombo is a FA the year after. OT was more of a need than WR, but since OT's don't matter in Madden and fantasy football I can see why people are disappointed.

I either watched a show on tv read an article on the high quality Olinemen from Boston College. They commented how they come into the NFL better prepared.

James Marten
T, Boston College

War Room analysis
Strengths: Is massive, but moves well. Is strong, and drives defensive linemen backward. Sustains blocks, and moves the pile. Gets set quickly in pass protection. Shows great initial balance. Uses hands well in pass protection to maintain separation. Neutralizes speed rushers if maintaining leverage. Shows good stunt/blitz awareness. Finds the right man when pulling and trap blocking.

Weaknesses: Is inconsistent. Might be too big; struggles to gain consistent leverage, bending at the back instead of at the knees. Tends to let hands hang low while pulling and trapping. Gets shoulders turned against bull rushers.

Bottom line: Marten turns heads because of his size -- his greatest asset and biggest hindrance. He is versatile enough to play anywhere along the line and possibly even move to center, a la the Panthers' Justin Hartwig. Marten, despite his inconsistency and upright style, shined in postseason all-star workouts, showing he has the body, athleticism and long arms to develop into a starting NFL tackle.
