I can’t remember the last time the Cowboys started the season with 4 rookie starters and those are some critical positions. It’s a testament to the scouting department working along with the coaches and of course ultimately the GM.
There will be some growing pains. I’m not predicting a Cowboys loss, but if they do it’s not the end of the world although many here will call for Jerry to tank after the first 3 and out. So be patient early in the season. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
The Dallas Cowboys have started four rookies on opening day, most notably during the 2016 season. That year, they started quarterback Dak Prescott, running back Ezekiel Elliott, cornerback Anthony Brown, and defensive tackle Maliek Collins.
Collins was not officially designated a starter in game #1 of the 2016 season.
The starting DT's for game #1 was Tyrone Crawford and Terrell McClain. Collins participated in 30% of the defensive snaps.
Maliek was not the starter until game #3 of the 2016 season.
Maliek Collins is considered to be the starter for the 2016 season since he did start 14 of the16 games. However, we cannot say this in regards to the rookies this season. We don't know how many games they will end up starting.
