I live in South Texas along the coast. I will experience a hurricane again.

Guess what? I'm not running to hide right now in denial. We just had 5" this past week and still 100 degree temps...so?
That’s cool, I guess. Weather here has been a little nicer except for the storm Tuesday

I am a little surprised they would trade him to another NFC team.

Sure the offer was better but what about the long term ramifications of this deal working out for Dallas and this coming back to bite the 49ers?

Unless they are so down on him they don’t feel like he has any real chance at being successful?
They know what he is. They aren't worried.

The guy is like 23 years old and started, what, 4 games? He's basically a rookie so yeah, right now his list of accomplishments is gonna be low. Someone saw something in him to give up 3 first round picks and we got him for a 4th. The upside is high, the risk is minimal. Great trade.
The 49ers saw something in him when they had very little information about him, just an unusually short college career. Since then, they have acquired a lot more information about him—they see him every day—and clearly changed their minds about his potential.

Right if a guy like Gino Smith can turn his career around so could this kid and he has more time less pressure being third on the depth chart and no longer has to live up to the three first round third overall pick narratives that go around.. Here he'll just be another guy a new start fresh maybe uses in the Wildcat packages goal line stuff maybe get a very good use of him in practices when he's gotta be jalen hurts or another mobile quarterback we're preparing for that week can't get much better than that I mean that's bare minimum right I mean that's where it starts then if he somehow can challenge Cooper rush for his job that would be great but right now just keep it simple...

Jimmy Smith was taken with a high pick, got injured, and then traded. He turned out pretty well. I'm not saying Lance will become a HoFer but anyone criticizing this trade is just crazy. Like I had said before, the upside is high, the risk is minimal.

In all seriousness this was a good move for the Cowboys. They now have one of the best quarterback rooms in the NFL. A top 10 quarterback in Dak, a top 3 backup quarterback in Rush, and a 3rd string toolsy 23 year old that will have a season and an offseason to learn your system.

if Buffalo was offering less than a 4th and unwilling to match ours then they didnt have a serious interest. They may have just seen it as to good to pass on and a no lose at their price

Considering all the time we have given to developmental players in the past, I have no problem with this move. Unless the Bills were offering a 6th or 7th. He can sit and learn. No rush for us since we arent the ones who spent the 3 first rounders on him.

You had to go all the way back to Jimmy Smith AND get your facts wrong to find an example? Smith wasn’t traded, he was waived after he declined to take a pay cut, which came after the team botched his medical care to the point he nearly died, and refused to pay his full salary the previous year. I don’t know what the organization had against Smith but they completely mistreated him.

Lance was completely healthy this offseason and the competition in camp wasn’t exactly Staubach and Morton. I’d have a lot more interest if he were coming from a poorly-run organization like the Raiders or Texans, but I’m less inclined to think the 49ers don’t understand what they have.

I suspect they aren't too worried about that or they wouldn't have traded him. Cap savings this year of trading him is very little. If they thought there was any chance he would be good they would have held onto him until at least next year. Plus, it's not like a 4th round pick is a huge return for them either. It just highlights the price they paid for him vs what they got back in return.

It may be an incorrect opinion but I consider Trey Lance a system type quarterback, who did not completely assimilate into the Kyle Shanahan's offensive scheme.

Yes, Lance has been injured but Shanahan was diligent in making him the heir apparent to Jimmy Garoppolo. He witnessed Lance struggle somewhat after finally being named starter in the regular season BEFORE getting injured again. Then saw him struggled again with his system and falling further down the depth chart.

Perhaps Shanahan considered the pros-and-cons of continued investment in Lance? If that is correct, Lance has a new opportunity to (slowly) learn a new offensive scheme, or perhaps better defined as a newly taught one from a new teacher. Maybe Brian Schottenheimer can capitalize on Lance's unrealized potential where Shanahan could not.

It also proves how other GMs get rid of their failures fast. They don't hold on to them hoping things change.

I heard the Vikings were also interested we weren't the only team there were a couple people who were bidding for him so 4th rounder sounds a little high but really it's really nothing in the grand scheme of things I'm sure we'll get an extra fourth round for some kind of compensation pick for losing a player it's not a big deal guys he's just gonna be the third running back for now and they'll figure it out

Yeah but they're also fast to pick up other people's garbage like Sam darnold or Baker Mayfield, Josh , Geno, or worse look how the eagles fleeced others for Wentz! Ouch!

I mean they're bringing other people's quickly cut players onto their team what's the difference tell me explain to me how your statement makes any sense because you think Jerry holds on to players too long and yet these other teams who are quick to get rid of their trash pick up other teams trash so what's the difference if you're going around to your neighbors and digging in their trash and throwing away similar things in your own trash bin??!!

Get outta here with that nonsense this is just how the league works it's a merry go round with regurgitating players thinking you can make them better all all positions people get cut and they move around and especially at quarterback but it happens at all positions another man's trash can be another man's treasure saying comes to mind and that's exactly what they're doing

49ers picked Cowboys' Trey Lance trade offer over Bills'

By Ali Thenawalla • Published August 25, 2023

The 49ers traded Trey Lance to the Dallas Cowboys on Friday, keeping the third-year NFL quarterback in the NFC, though an AFC contender reportedly made an effort to acquire the former first-round draft pick.

The Buffalo Bills made an offer to the 49ers for Lance before San Francisco accepted Dallas' bid, The San Jose Mercury News' Cam Inman reported, citing a team source.

I hate the trade as it doesn’t do anything for Dallas. We need help at RB and LB, Oline. Lance cannot play, use him has Taysom Hill I guess.
My thinking is we get their play book as we have lost to them the past two years.
