The 49ers saw something in him when they had very little information about him, just an unusually short college career. Since then, they have acquired a lot more information about him—they see him every day—and clearly changed their minds about his potential.
This just doesn't jive with how the NFL scouting process works particularly for top picks like that. Sure they knew more but you don't know what any of their resonings for moving on were and just substituting "they thinks he sucks like I do" for the unknown.

This makes no sense at all. We have a starter, a very solid back up what is the point of getting another back up QB. Another linebacker and a back up o-lineman would make sense right about now.

I still enjoy beating Buffalo.
The only thing sweeter than beating the Bills in another SB would be beating the Steelers. Living in Steele country is insufferable at times. My neighbor already said may as well hand the Lombardi to them as Pickett is tearing it up. I said yea in the pre season! Lol! Let’s see what he does against a real defense week one when SF comes to town.

And someone saw something to cut bait and trade him for a 4th. I know people wanna be optimistic but here’s how this is likely to play out…it doesn’t.
Was not Kurt Warner released? No one seemed to see anything there so I guess you are in good company.
BP used to say that a player someone thought was good enough to be a 1st rd pick & prospect is one you should take a good look at.
When you look at how much the 49rs gave up to get him, there MUST have been something there.
You don't want to see it that is fine but you could easily be wrong. It is not like he started a season or two and stank it up all the time. with so little game experience to claim there could never be anything there is just plain dumb.

Maybe both teams offered a fourth and the niners figured Dallas would draft higher than Buffalo

I am a little surprised they would trade him to another NFC team.

Sure the offer was better but what about the long term ramifications of this deal working out for Dallas and this coming back to bite the 49ers?

Unless they are so down on him they don’t feel like he has any real chance at being successful?

1. They know trey sucks.
2. They also know Dak will be resigned before trey even has a chance to become the #2 guy.

Trey will be lucky to earn a backup role here next year. Rush went 6-1 as a starter. Trey will be lucky to win a game if he ever has to start.

Because our starter is going to want over $50m a year when his contract is up. If Lance develops (which is the hope obviously) they can either part with Prescott or at least have leverage to make him take a lower amount.

Good to hear we were competing with someone. Was afraid we might have given up too much by a round or two. You know how our Owner gets with these wildcatter trades.

I hate it. It puts pressure on dak and might cost him millions. 'Get that money boy" I hope the team makes him ride a bus to the games and makes him practice on a completely different field. This sucks......

It also proves how other GMs get rid of their failures fast. They don't hold on to them hoping things change.
And other GMs know they will be gotten rid of for holding on to their failures hoping things will change.
Our GM has no accountability and zero change of losing his job.

It's not like the 49ers are parting ways with an established, accomplished veteran such as Aaron Rodgers (Packers to AFC Jets) or Alex Smith (49ers to AFC Chiefs).
Besides...a same-conference-teams swap for starting QBs was done two years ago... Rams sent Jared Goff to the Lions for Matthew Stafford.

They valued him as a 4th round pick. Their worry should be proportionate to a 4th round pick. That's all. If they're worrying more, they're doing it wrong.

Considering all the time we have given to developmental players in the past, I have no problem with this move. Unless the Bills were offering a 6th or 7th. He can sit and learn. No rush for us since we arent the ones who spent the 3 first rounders on him.
The Bills were probably offering a 6th or 7th. If you were the 49ers wouldn't you prefer to move him out of the conference if all things were equal?

Because he was available right now. He is no worse than Grier, but more potential. This doesn’t preclude the Cowboys from improving the o-line or RB, but there has to be a better player available at the right price.

None of us do. My point was that "they spent a lot on him three years ago so he must be good" is a bad argument.

The 49's are in win now mode. They failed last season because they were down to their 3rd string QB, who also got hurt.

They are not in a position to mess around developing a QB for the future when they already feel they have that guy on the roster, as well as the depth that helps them as contenders in the now. Prioritizing depth over a developmental QB makes a lot of sense for them in their current state.

Lance has barely sniffed the NFL. He may not be the guy the 49's thought he was when they drafted him, but that doesn't mean he has no future.

Josh Allen is on Notice????!!!

Dak Haters wake up the Fantasy is Over!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
What's hilarious, is if he went to the Bill's, the story would have been how shrewd of a move it was for the bill's to get a quality backup to support Josh Allen

Are people actually making that argument? I see people arguing that they 49ers are not happy at how this turned out because of how much they spent two year ago but not that he was a good player because of it.

There are plenty of quotes from Shanahan about this. He said that he felt like he let Lance down. He said that his broken finger altered his throwing motion which extended into the following season which set him back. What I have yet to hear is that he could not read defenses or the asinine take that they think he sucked like I have seen bandied around a lot.
