#53 Pick Anthony Fasano ND

I'm an ND fan, and Fasano is one of my favorite ND players ever and I HATE this pick. We don't need him, and I would've liked to see him go somehwere where he could excel.. I'm pissed.

at least we drafted someone we needed, who was the best player available and has no history of injury

Who is that?

Carpenter broke his ankle and still wasn't up to full speed at his Pro Day about five months later.

Fasano has a fused back with a rod in it.

Also, look at last year's film. We run a lot of 2TE sets. That's where Julius has most of his success. We've pretty much eliminated the FB position since Anderson left and now we've reverted to this 2TE set formation, which I like personally.

If you don't like the pick, keep repeating to yourself ... 2TE sets ... 2TE sets ... 2TE sets ...

Then ask what depth we had there.

This is key to the passing game and running game .. particularly because we run out of this formation a tremendous amount of the time.

Do we use a FB a lot? No.

What is everyone freaking out about? This is an upgrade to our offense ... a compliment to Jones or Barber .. and TO, Glenn and Witten. If teams have to beware of the pass, it protects Bledsoe as well. Apparently the guy is a good blocker, this also helps Bledsoe. It will aid in keeping the defense at bay with a formidable pass threat opposite of Witten as well as being a good blocker.

This is GOOD for the offense as a whole.

Chill out - it aint over yet .. I even like this pick so far.

We didn't need a reciever or RB ... and we still got another offensive weapon. Great pick!!!

Even if what you say is true, he still doesn't justify making him a second round pick.

I would have thought a FS or an OL would have been a better pick since they would have been a full time starter compared to another TE who only plays on certain downs when the Boys already have fifty TE's on their roster.

Not a great pick for a 2nd.

Great pick if he's healthy because Witten will be a FA next year.

All the signs were there for BP to pick him:

1.) he's italian
2.) played at N.D.
3.) played for Charlie Weiss
4.) reminds him of Mark Bavaro

Exactly. I wanted this player. When Campbell was let go the writing was on the wall. He's a Bavaro Clone. -

Thank you....good post.

Shades of Bavaro/Cross. Typical of Parcells.

See this what I like ... talk me into this ... please. I want to like this pick but unless this turns out like Dallas Clark + Marcus Pollard I'm annoyed.

Who did we have behind Jay Novacek in the day? I don't remember people crying out loud for a guy to replace him, 'cause "He might get injured". It's not that we don't need another TE. We have other positions with much more immediate needs, and the farther down the draft we go, we won't get the best player available at those slots that can come in and hopefully contribute right away. Depth at DT. Anyone here remember Willie Blade, a former 3rd rounder? DT wasn't deep to begin with, and now we are really gonna reach. Not to mention we have no starting FS. We have Rob Pettiti starting at RT, and a guy who is injury prone from the Jets who might be decent as a starter just in case. We have no quality depth behind our guards. Rivera is no guarantee to be healthy all 16 games even at his age. I guess the team feels they can get great quality at those positions with our only 3rd round pick, and then fill the other needs with our 5, 6, and 7 rounders.

We are screwed.

The only thing is that Witten isn't a good run blocker and the scouting report on Fasano is that he isn't a very good run blocker. It kind of defeats the point of a 2-TE offense if you can't run out of it.

"can't" just sounds so negative.

great pick:rolleyes: guess we draft TE in the second round to play special teams. You know Bill cant get enough TE's on the roster. We have Witten and we sign RH as Cambells replacement. I guess the OL and S position are OK:rolleyes:

Not a great pick for a second rounder at all imo.

The Boys needed a FS or an OL. Both could have been starters at their persepctive position instead of another TE who only will play when their are 2 TE sets.

Just a wasted pick for a second rounder. Shoot...we could have given a second rounder to obtain Walker from GB!

Diehard ND fan here and I was shocked when I saw that. I like Fasano A LOT,but this isn't want we needed.

What about Leonard Pope? If we wanted a big badass end, why did we not draft Pope instead? Sorry if someone has already brought this up.

The guy will be a plus. TE is a physical position over 16 games. Having depth at that position will make this team better. Witten will benefit from this pick.

I like the offense he came from. He comes in knowing the pro game.

Gonna have to say that I'm on-board with this. People were griping about drafting offense, so now we have. This can only be good for us. Jerry's already talking about a two WR/two TE set. Sounds like we're gonna phase out FB and run with 4 TE's.

Uh, Carpenter will likely start and he's a very solid linebacker. Fasano won't start be we'll definitely see him in games.

This is what I wanted - players that can come in and play in games this year! Both will be on the field. They're both the kind of players that can start in their 1st season. I love the strategy here.

Witten could be gone after the season as a FA. Fasano could replace him. We played out of a 2-TE base set last year. With those things in mind, I no longer have a problem with the pick.
