A down with Julius in, is a down wasted

To everyone that says Julius is 12-1, and making excuses. I have one question. Why are you so afraid of getting better?

Wow, I can't believe people are still making excuses for him after 4 years and blaming others for his mediocrity. Look, he's just not very good. RB's don't go untouched all the way to the endzone in the NFL. If they want to make big plays in this league, they have to break tackles and/or they have to make people miss. Julius does neither. He's the big play back that never makes big plays. On a per carry basis he has to have one of the lowest 20+ yard run ratios in the NFL.

Today we saw the quintessential Julius play ... sweep to the outside to attempt to get him in space, he starts running, stops because he doesn't feel the crease and them just curls up in the fetal position and falls to the ground and waits for the defender to finish him up. I'll be glad when the jj saga has finally ended and we can get a legitimate big play back in here to compliment MB3.

JJ is done here... 4 years is a long enough time... he hasn't been injured, he is getting carries... but he falls down on the slightest touch...

I would be tempted to fight w/ you if this were 2 years ago, but I've given up on the man too

Exactly. He'll have the momentum up to hit and drive for a first but he'll slow down to "shake and bake" a defender and someone from behind runs up and brings him down.

Drives me to distraction.

If those are his "instincts" kicking in then *****..... he is part of a somewhat effective duo.... but we can pair Barber up with someone MORE effective... in the future.

Julius doesn't do **** except go in and let Marion get a little rest. I hate seeing him behind Romo.

Plug someone like McFadden in there and our offense would be incredible. Seriously. In addition to Romo, our OL, TO and Witten... A great RB in a rotation with Marion would put so much stress on a defense that we might actually average 50 a game. No ****.

I can't even imagine how good we'd be with a dominant RB.

If we get a great RB we won't have a rotation with Marion Barber. We will have a situation where Barber gets a few carries a game to spell the great back. Barber is clearly the better of our two backs right now but I don't think hes something incredibly special. In fact at times I think he makes some incredibly stupid decisions.

Fighting for yardage is great, but realize when your best play isn't to waste 5 more seconds trying to get 2 yards and just go out of bounds already. Realizing that running 5-8 yards backward into your endzone is never going to be a good play. Realize that blocking the saftey thats blitzing untouched up the middle is pretty much always going to be the right choice.

I think they would continue to use Barber even with D-Mac. Not nearly as much, probably... but when he's really fresh, Barber is a nightmare for defenders to bring down. 10-12 snaps in relief of D-Mac would sound about right.

I think if you have a true stud RB you probably use them a lot like the Chargers use Turner, or like we used our backups while we had Emmitt in his prime. 10 carries is about the absolute maxium number, and at most a couple or three touches in the passing game.

I'd really love to have one of those high end stud backs. Oh well.

Marion and his 5.0 ypc is more than perfectly fine. We don't need McFadden. We just need a "big play' compliment who actually makes plays.

Perhaps, but I'm not entirely convinced he doesn't have a magnetic field within him that pulls into the pile :D

Well if "we don't know how to use him" We can let someone else try to figure it out. I personally would like to see a late first or second on a back rather than shoot the moon for McFadden. The high salary and what it would take to get him since Cleveland doesn't suck just isn't worth it. I would be happy with just about anyone (Felix Jones, Slaton, Mendenhall, Stewart, Hart). We only need 10-15 carries a game out of them.

Bottom line:

In the past 29 games JJ has 18 games under 4 YPC and 6 games under 3 YPC.

In the past 29 games MB3 has 9 games under 4 YPC and 5 games under 3 YPC.

I really don't understand how people can defend a RB who gets less than 4 YPC in 62% of the games he's played in over the past two years.

And that is the only play you can probably remember where Marion has whiffed... how can you make a judgement based on one play?

With the JJ apologists it's always about the one play Barber didn't make and conveniently forget that JJ rarely makes any plays period.

I was at the game today, it was readily apparent to everyone (including the very few Lion fans around me) who the better back was. This is no contest, JJ should be spelling Barber on two possessions a game and the odd time when MBIII needs a blow.
