Yes, Julius Jones' only role now is to spell Marion Barber.
The Barbarian even outplayed the guy in the formation he use to excel in, the Shotgun Draw.
Week after Week it becomes painfully obvious that the guy lacks vision and couldn't break out of my Grandmother's tackle.
I also love the new angle that the Pro-Julius guys are saying. Insinuating that Barber isn't a good blocking. There is no way in HELL any back in the NFL would get significant playing time if he couldn't pick up blitzes and help protect the QB.
Im going to find that play and see exactly what happened.
I guess I'm considered a "pro-Julius" guy because I like him too. For me, it's because he burst on the scene and it was fun to see some explosion out of the backfield again, and I guess for that, I want to see him do well because I do believe Parcells screwed with his head and confidence.
That said, I have no problem admitting Barber is the better back. Barber has better balance and I think is a more instinctive runner. But not by some great distance over Jones.
And if you really go back and look for the play others are referring to where Barber missed the block, you can look at a few other games where he did it as well. Jones seems the one better schooled at picking up the blitzes.
Fans like "ooh ahhh" plays in football, i.e., big hits, physicality. So while Barber will miss blitz pickups, he'll have one like the collision between him and Zach Thomas in the backfield and everyone jumps on that as him being great at picking up the blitz.
As I said, Barber is the better back, but not by all that much. For one, I don't have confidence with his style that he can be a feature back (which Jones has already proven he can do on this level - Barber has always split carries going back to college) and sometimes I don't think he runs smart. For example, trying to bounce it out when all that's needed is a yard.
Funny how in the few games where clearly Julius was running better and more effectively, but to maintain the "split" carries we pulled him for Barber, I didn't see all these threads. It's like people sitting back and waiting to pounce to prove a point rather than being happy the offense is looking good running the ball and winning. Simply because "their" guy is not the one blowing it up.
I can understand people's preference for one or the other, but I don't get how or why people feel it's necessary to say the "other" guy is garbage.
