A Female Passenger on Benson's Boat Called for Help

Why does your scenerio have to include black cops. Do we know the cops in this case are all white? I would bet if a white CELEBRITY got beat it would have as much press as this. A better question would be if your every day white citizen was beatin badly by cops would there be the same outrage.

I'm not making this reply to imply that black people aren't the target of racist aholes on a daily basis nor do I have any idea what the actual facts were in the case of Benson. However, as a "white" person (whatever that means, I'm actually a pinkish hue) I can say that I don't have a natural bond with people of similar skin pigment, nor do I feel the need to rush to the defense of another person simply because they are "white".

With all the idiot stunts and cockiness of famous people these days, my honest reaction would probably be that they must have done something to deserve it.

Injustice, wherever it occurs, riles me up regardless of the color, race or gender of the recipient.

I saw it.. I didn't want to be the first to mention it.. But the latest is that the guys have been taken off the street.

WG when I saw that video my first response was, "someone is gonna get fired". As I said that video is an example of police brutality. I have seen many videos of supposed police brutality and it is laughable due to the actions that led up to the force being used. Even at that. An officer is only supposed to use the force necessary to take the subject into custody.

Whats really strange is there is a case I saw on fox news this morning of several officers in Philadelphia pulling some robbery suspects of a vehicle and literally beating the crap out of them. No one has even mentioned that here. And it was just a small blurb on Fox news. The beating was far worse than the Rodney King beating. What I saw on the tape this morning IS police brutality. Pepper Spraying someone for non-compliance is not.
I haven't seen this. Can anyone PM me a link?

I don't see why people make fun of the woman in the article for saying "my black friend". What was she supposed to say, "my african american friend"? And don't say "my friend" because the color of the victims skin was highly relevant in this case.

I agree. I always refer to my friends as "my white friend" or "my black friend", you know, you have to distinguish and all.

Thats called entrapment, and thats illegal.

How is it entrapment? I am curious as to your definition of entrapment. In the scenario I described the authorities are not tricking, mis-directing or lying to anyone. They just may police one area more closely than another area.

Hos, I have not seen it anywhere except one time on fox news first thing this morning. Nothing further as far as what I have seen

no one is going to get fired. they will spin it some way to put it on the suspect.

Yet if those officers did not check on people walking around at 3 am there would be complaints they were not doing their job

That last part is on the money, including the northeast (I'd say that worldwide racism of all kinds is pervasive, especially towards blacks), but let's accept a few truths without subterfuge...Excessive force and cops go together like kibble & bits...

I agree, but I also think it many times goes with the job. I would assume law enforcement, when pulling someone over, assumes guilt before innocence. It's the nature of their occupation in that they would normally confront someone they saw or perceived to be guilty of a violation or a crime. They should afford someone any courtesies they can without jeopardizing their own safety. That does NOT give them the right to use excessive force or harass them in any way.

It's a very high pressure job and I respect those that serve us in that regard. I do not respect those that perform their job illegally, callously or with prejudice.

Blacks getting targetted more than whites is a reality, not an opinion...

It would certainly seem that way from what we are afforded in the media. I do think profiling has a lot to do with that as well, and profiling spans all races.

And like it or not, Texas has earned that reputation which isn't to say all Texans are racist...Just sayin'

Sorry, I don't see that Texas has singled themselves out to be the predominant state for pulling over blacks...

Just once in a blue moon, I'm curious what the reaction would be to seeing some famous white celebrity get pepper sprayed and beaten by black cops with no video footage...What would be the prevailing 'opinion' on what went down...Yet, it happens the other way around farrrrrr too often and public opinion seems to routinely side with the police....Just sayin'

Personally I like to get all the facts we are afforded before I form an opinion on a situation. Public opinion normally sides with law enforcement because it is natural to believe those that are supposed to be the good guys. That's not always the case, unfortunately, and those that do abuse their position should be dealt with accordingly.

I have been pulled over several times in my life for the same things that are argued about among other Americans. I have been stopped for a broken headlight. I have been pulled over for "driving erratically" (which I wasn't), and my car searched. I have been pulled over for driving in the left lane (passing lane only) and searched.

My point is that ANYONE can be pulled over for any reason at any time...

And yet that very information will be listed in the police report.

If you see the video. There is NO WAY they are spinning this. It is far worse than the Rodney King beating.

That may be true, but one cannot deny that cops along with other tight knit professions are vulnerable to the "protect their own" mentality.

If HeavyG has ever issued a ticket to one of his own, Johnny Law is among the very, very few.
If he has not (what are the chances he has not stopped an off-duty cop?), then i rest my case.

My girlfriend was being stopped nightly after work by a smitten cop. I went to the chief of police and he ripped a new one in his officer. (The chief had to because the officer admitted to the unwarranted stops; no siren, no police lights, just flashing his brights.)

There are many reasons police stop motorists on a continuous basis: racial profiling, sexual harassment, meanspiritedness, bored and perhaps just casting a wide net to see who they can haul in.
Am I generalizing? Probably. But all of you here have been stopped at one time or other and for no good reason other than to flex their Johnny Law muscle.

Things you should never say when stopped by an oshiffer:

Sorry, Officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.
Hey, you must've been doin' about 125mph to keep up with me! Good job!

That uniform makes you look really big.

Excuse me. Is "stick up" hyphenated?

I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a Police Officer.

You don't happen to have any beer in your car?
I was going to be cop, but I decided to finish high school instead.

Your not gonna check the trunk, are you?

"Lets do it different this time... I will give you the breathalizer test, now stick this in your mouth and blow"

Did you happen to attend the "Barney Fife" Police Academy?

I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer.

When you smack me up, make sure you smile pretty for the camcorder
I bet I could grab that gun before you finish writing my ticket

Is it true that people become cops because they are too dumb to work at McDonalds?

I pay your salary!

So, uh, you on the take, or what?

Those sirens are hurting my ears, turn them off or I am not speaking to you.

So what if I was speeding, whatcha gonna do about it Mr. Hotshot?

Gee,officer! That's terrific. The last officer only gave me a warning, too!

Do you know why you pulled me over? Okay just so one of us does.

I was trying to keep up with traffic. Yes I know there is no other car around, that's how far they are ahead of me.

So, are you still crabby because your mamma didn't let you play with your gun when you were little?

Sorry I can't hear you over the radio. No I am not turning it down, I love this song. Either speak up or just leave me alone.

What do you mean have I been drinking? Your the trained specialist.

Well, when I reached down to pick up my bag of crack, my gun fell off my lap and got lodged between the brake pedal and gas pedal, forcing me to speed out of control.
Hey is that a 9 mm? That's nothing compared to this .44 magnum.

:)

Agreed, I get referred to as the chubby bald guy and I don't get pissed. What can I say, it's true.

I dont think there is anything wrong with using adjatives to help distinguish who you might be referring to in a conversation as long as the reference isn't done with malice or slanderous intent.

However, given the history of racism in this country, I understand the sensitivity to the matter and am more than happy to do all I can not to offend people I hold a high regard for.

I will say I personally issue far more warnings than I do citations. It all depends on the persons attitude when they are approached.
