First off, he is not elite and has never been elite. Second, he has had multiple surgeries and is getting old which leads to a weaker arm, immobility, slower thinking, and more. He isn't even reliable anymore. He hasn't always been short changed either, he has played for some solid teams over the years. He has had his chance. A decade with 2 playoff wins? He takes some blame for that as well.

I'm sorry, I'm just not a huge fan of Romo and have really enjoyed Dak. I can't wait until we trade Romo next year and get something for him that will actually help our defense.

To your first paragraph -- nope. The GM takes the blame for not constructing around an elite QB. You can be a Jerry apologist all you like, he failed our elite QB. Damn shame. Damn, damn, shame. And fans like you excuse it. Sickening.

To your second paragraph -- you're assuming he's traded and not cut. "Well that would be stupid to not trade him derpity derp derp" I'm sure Romo won't just go anywhere and Jerry, I'm sure, won't trade him to a team he doesn't think is a viable contender for his QB he knows he failed.

"Tony Romo isn't elite" Bro, miss me with that ****.

They need to make sure they get something for him rather than cut him. If he ends up a free agent, he'd be a prime candidate for the 'Skins. They could let Cousins walk while they develop a new draftee. That would not be pretty.

He won't go to the Skins. He's AZ bound with an outside shot at NYJ or DEN.

WSH has their guy, now. They're convinced they have a franchise guy in Cousins according to their recent reports. And they're too far away from serious contention for Romo to consider.

Better get ready for a highly likely cut, Surfer, unless they can work out a package with one of those aforementioned teams, or another dark horse contender that Tony approves of.

To me it was pathetic how the media, who for years let it be known that Romo sucks, was all of the sudden treating him like he was a hybrid of Joe Montana and Johnny Unitas while Dak was starting. You would swear that Romo never missed a pass or had a bad game while Dak was tearing it up. Anything for the media to try and drum up a QB controversy in Dallas.

Anyway....as I've said from the beginning...the Cowboys really need to look out for Romo's best interests here. He should play when he is very much needed. And I'm glad that Jerry did that because you know if the Cowboys lost with Romo, even if he played a great game...he would get crucified for it. And if he threw a costly interception, all hell would break loose.

You have to give Romo a ton of credit here. So many QB's, like a Joe Montana before he left for KC, would have let this thing fester and become a distraction. He handled it like a mature, thoughtful and selfless adult.

I've been a huge Romo booster from the beginning, but people need to be real about his future prospects. A 36 year old QB with multiple major injuries is not a good bet for the future.

QBs have played well past 36, but none that I know of had multiple major injuries leading up to that point. Brady is playing well at 39, but he only had 1 major injury his entire career, 8 years ago. Peyton had 1 only major injury. Favre had 0. Staubach had 1 major injury in 1972.

Conversely, Aikman accumulated some pretty serious injuries and was DOA at 34.

People saying this isn't settled are half right. Dak could conceivably bust for various reasons, though it gets less likely every week. But Romo isn't the likely alternative.

Quarterbacks draw first-round picks, even for one year. Bradford drew a first. Romo might be worth a first, second, and third if the bidding involved multiple teams.

But I tend to think he might end up starting again here. Dak's still in training in so many ways. Romo can teach him so much more, especially by playing. We've got Dak for 12-15 years, so there's nothing to worry about.

You don't learn the game on the bench. I can understand the sentiment behind wanting to see Romo play again. But Dak isn't going to learn anything from Romo sitting on the bench. He's already used to live fire. He's beyond the point of learning while sitting on the bench. That is for guys who haven't played at all yet.

If Dak leads us to the playoffs Romo isn't gonna be our starter unless injury happens

It would be sad if we traded him to the Browns. Would the Cowboys trade Romo to the NFC? Or would they rather send him to the AFC. Dilemmas

The greatest QB of all time Tom Brady wouldn't get a 1st round pick. What makes you think Romo would get one? Bradford got one because he is significantly younger than Romo and was a 1st overall pick.

The Viking gave a first for Bradford with the expectation they would get one year from him, and backup Bridgewater in the future. So I'm pretty sure they would give a first for Brady since he is a far superior talent, and seeing they gave a first already for a short term fix.

Well at least I respect your honesty. He is a very good and talented QB, love watching him play, but its a bottom line and un-forgiving league, especially with the lineage of a team like the Cowboys, just ask Merideth, Morton and White. But he will land on his feet somewhere.

You are in denial. Romo will NEVER be the starter again here. This is Dak's team now.. and thank goodness. I wish Romo well in his future.. best team he could land on would be Denver because he will need a defense like that to carry him.
I'll never forget how excited you were when romo went down last year and we had the vaunted Brandon Weeden waiting in the wings...you were like a kid on Christmas morning

You need to show some damn respect and also some football acumen. Teams like the NYJ and AZ could also use him and do a lot of damage with him. Teams with top defenses (DEN included) could do some serious damage with an elite QB like Romo. He's always been short changed a true, well-rounded team. He doesn't need a defense to "carry him," he just needs a damn serviceable defense.

Be respectful of our outgoing, great, under-supported QB, UFC. You've been largely complimentary towards him lately, don't start down that path again of disrespect.

Not with him pouring out his soul for our fanbase the way he has for a decade.
Was wondering who you were commenting to. Then I saw "UFC" in part of your post and that explains it all. He's one of the very few posters that I put on ignore long ago. Ignored posters' comment don't even show up in relies--which is nice. Especially with this doofus.
But it makes it look like the responders are responding to air.

Complete and utter waste of your time to ever talk football with that guy.

I thought for awhile had had shown back up as "Animosity", as they are of similar ilk on this topic. Very nasty and disrespectful.

He's gonna get signed unless he nose dives

Your articles are old (minus the first). Nice try, tho, Silver. Visit their forums, he's getting signed. After a slow first two starts, he has risen to the occasion and has rallied the team. He's a glorified Andy Dalton, and in this league, a glorified Andy Dalton gets PAID.

Your links are mostly disingenuous. You're better than that. Also, your first link doesn't disprove or prove either of our arguements, read the last paragraph, dude. Also, read the first sentence of your second link, lol

Why the condescending tone? Why ascribe motivations you have no idea about? Can't we disagree without being disagreeable?

FYI - Since you're talking about reading the last paragraph, here's the last paragraph from one of your linked articles:

"Cousins still has plenty of progress to make before I’m ready to call him a franchise quarterback worthy of a huge contract. But he is showing steady signs of improvement. The key moving forward will be how much he can cut down on those one or two terrible decisions each game. If he can manage to do that without resorting to conservative check-downs, then he’ll put himself in good position for a big contract in the offseason."

I am a big Dak fan, but I have noticed that is he really lucky, thru the 9 games he has had luck on his side, so I wonder how it goes
when he doesnt have the good luck?
I know when giants went on their runs, manning was very lucky, and the team was too.
Sometimes luck plays a big part in wins. whether it is bad or good.

I have also seen some really lame passes, mixed in with the really good ones.
There have been a few times where he had nothing on the ball and it has fell way short.

So while I like dak and the winning and want to see it play out, I have seen some flaws that make me think, he could be a 1 season
wonder.
I really dont know, so I would keep tony around till I was sure.
I think the jones boys are sure hence the tony speech, but we still have to see how this plays out.

I know Dak seems to be really good late in the 4th, like he is just waiting for that, then he plays for real, or just gets lucky
I dont know.

All your seeing is a rookie having NFL growing pains. He'll make a fantastic throw one play, then on the next mess up his footwork and bounce the ball well short of the receiver or miss a wide open Dez Bryant.

The upside is huge, the ceiling is very high. Kid's in his first year running this kind of offense. This incredible supporting cast has helped carry him when he struggles.

We've seen all the arguments about how Romo would've done if he'd started the last 9 games with this supporting cast; some seem to think this team would actually have a LOSING record or something with Romo. In fact, we'd likely STILL be 8-1 or even 9-0 if Romo had started these first 9 games.

Dak's growing pains are MINIMIZED by having such a fantastic team around him. They have thus far kept his growing pains from resulting in any losses. [that loss on WK 1 wasn't as a result of any subpar play from Dak; he actually got the team in position to win the game before TWill had his brain fart]

Under the tutelage of Garrett, Linehan and Romo I see Dak only getting better as he gets more comfortable running this kind of offense that is new to him.

Fair enough, you're a great poster and I apologize for my tone.

As to ascribing motivations I have no idea about, aren't we both doing that? :)

As an aside, I was just positing that many in Skin land are already counting on an extension. Tony going there would be a shock to the league. But as you said, in a round about way, we can agree to disagree.

Again, @Silver Surfer sorry for the condescending tone, bubba.

Yeah, even prior to 2014 he was touting that basically any swinging dork could replace Tony.
He was almost breathless the thought of Weeden starting, because of how well he handled the skins blitzes
He was totally MIA in '14, cause he was uh,,,busy
