A Little Formation To Get You Excited

According to ProFootballFocus.com, our opponents used a nickel defense half of the time when we used that formation last season. We used it six times on first downs, and on five of those, our opponent stayed in their base defense. We used it four times on second or third down, and our opponent used a nickel defense all four times.

And that's what I suspected. If there's a mismatch, it's hopefully in the passing game on first down. Then in the running game on 2nd down. Still, mismatches only happen when the player can out-execute the opponent. So we still need some sort of mismatch from Felix or Martellus there. But in general, mismatches are usually not that noticeable in the NFL. It's more of a 'chip away' process and the big plays come from a gaffe like a blown coverage assignment or a player getting confused from an offensive look and missing their assignment.

The thing I do like about it is that the offense can now dictate things and with our 3-4 defensive scheme, we can dictate things on defense. If the execution is there, that is something that most teams don't have on both sides of the ball.

Romo went 4-for-5 for 59 yards, one TD and a 155.4 rating out of this formation on first downs last season. (We got 5 yards on a defensive penalty on the other first-down play out of this formation.) That's better than 10 yards per play.

This thread was already garbage. So how can you command respect of your team if you do not seek disciplinary action upon a player for doing this no matter the circumstance seems pretty wishy washy to me.

Not until you started whining like usual it wasn't. Does the act ever get old or do you really believe the crap you type?

I campaigned for Daboys as worst poster...but noooo none of you would listen! The guy is a straight up moron.

That's pretty insulting to the average moron. Daboys is in a short bus class all his own.

DaBoys is a moron, and on ignore. But thanks to you guys quoting him, I accidently read something he wrote. He's right: pantsing Dave Campo in front of HBO cameras was an embarrassing act of disrespect. Parcells endured something similar when Bryant threw his towel in his face, or I'd say that sort of stuff would never have happened previously. Still, though, that Pac was comfortable doing that in front of a camera was a disgrace. I'd have run that whole position group into the ground that afternoon.

what's bs about the formation?

Felix Jones is a bad blocker. The pro set is a bad formation. You really want to run sweeps in todays NFL? Um it's not the 1960's. Might as well bring up the near and far formation and we might as well run a base 4-6 defense. Let's not forget about the flex bone wing t and wish bone formation since we're running crappy formation that hasn't worked since the 40's.

First member I've ever done it to either here or on ANY other forum.

I've had this discussion more than a few times in the past on various forums. In real life if you were in a bar you can pick out the brain dead a mile away as soon as you start into a discussion about whatever subject. They'll throw in worthless, pointless information that has little or nothing to do with the subject at hand.

At that point, you can conveniently ignore them as do the people who have something intelligent to contribute to the conversation. In a literal sense you turn your back to them as they are worthless and only a detriment to a serious palaver.

In the age of the internet, we don't have that luxury. Every time you enter a new message board you have to feel out those like that aforementioned short bus rejects and selectively ignore them. The sad thing though is that some will read their input and expect it to have as much gravity and validity as the next person. In the real world, those debating in the conversation can exclude the scribbling idjit and those joining the conversation later on can see that person being excluded and therefore assume he has nothing substantive to add.

Here though, we are forced to suffer those who have somehow managed to run a dozen too many meals with the microwave door open, wondering what those popping and sizzling sounds are between their ears.

On the old DallasCowboys.com forums, we had one should-have-been prom night dumpster baby whose user name was McPolo. Even had an award named after him for those who exhibited unusually stupid and meaningless posts. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if the capitalizing impaired newly ignored member is that same person.

FINALLY! I knew that you would eventually spit out the real reason behind your latest... whatever you want to call it... dislike. It's not the formation that bites for you. It's the suggestion of using Felix Jones.

You haven't changed one bit. You didn't like the possibility of him joining the team before the draft, during the draft, certainly after the draft and throughout all of last offseason. And even though Felix Jones proved you wrong (yet again) about your incessant whining of:

--as a Dallas Cowboy, you obviously still hold a grudge against him. :bang2:

I would ask that you would finally get over it, but that would be like pailing for water in a dry well.

For yet another time (but it won't the the last for you), Jones was and is the better choice over than of your pet cat, Rashard Mendenhall. Sorry.

You can resume your whining now.

:lmao2::lmao2::lmao2:

The pro set is a bad formation that every team uses along with sweeps. Or maybe you don't know what a sweep is. That wouldn't shock me.

Are you ever going to get over Rashard Mendenhall? Here let me help you. The Steelers will probably use him on a sweep this year.

You should probably read up on the pro set.

This post screams Madden educated.

We ran a ton of sweeps last year. We just weren't very good at it for the most part. Every team runs sweeps. The pro set formation is probably used by every team as well, especially if they have any type of WCO influence which just about every team does.

Watch the Saints, Eagles, Seahawks, Texans, etc. and you will see a ton of pro-set formations.
