I for one am happy they pulled the trigger to move on. His schemes and play calling were very bland and easy to dissect. Defenses have been saying that out loud for years!

My biggest concern with Moore was Jerry. It felt very similar to Wade getting Garrett forced on him. We prob will never know what the truth of the situation was, but at the minimum I would want McCarthy and his far greater experience watching and helping Moore, but it appeared Moore was on his own without input. Jerry's team design seems to limit synchronization between different elements on the team. Jerry always struck me as an insecure leader, who wanted to keep everyone separate and come to him as the decision maker, not the Head Coach, which is a huge problem, just to let Jerry feel as though he is in charge and making the calls. It undercuts the coach, and hurts the team to take the power away. Players and other coaches know it.

I do give Moore props for Cooper Rush. If Moore was so bad, how did he get so much out of Rush ?

Overall I like the decision, a change was needed, now we will see if Moore was an issue, or he just played the hand he was given by Jerry.

The next OC needs to understand Dak’s limitations and build an offense around his strengths. I’d like to see more running / rpo style of offense and keep Dak at less than 30 attempts per game.

The entire organization doesn’t want Dak running. They want him sitting in the pocket passing and he is very mediocre as a pure pocket passer.
Which is the #1 OVERALL ISSUE!!!!!!!! That's why 2 things can be true - Kellen should do well with Herbert (who is a MUCH BETTER pocket passer than Dak) and an OC that actually designs the offense to what Dak CAN do well (not what he's convinced himself he does well) SHOULD also do well.

It just seems like an act of desperation.

There was nothing wrong with Kellen Moore.

Is he Andy Reid? No.. But he is at worst average offensive coordinator.
Considering the limitations of the QB, doesn’t it make sense to at least attempt to find a very good to above average OC if Moore isn’t that?

I just feel as if they had to do something, but it doesn’t at all give off the vibe that it has any real chance to turn into anything great.

Nice insightful post.

I think that depends on how he is asked to coach. Is it his game or one designed to showcase the QB to keep him in the conversation?

This team actually had the HC admit he had no involvement in the plan or calling in that first Niner's loss. Just who was the OC reporting to?
At that point I saw it as giving Kellen the rope to hang himself with. I'm actually surprised they made the call to move on from him. It's a positive sign that maybe Mike is just not so much of a puppet head coach as it appears. Now if we can get rid of this goofball special teams coach I'll be really excited! lol

The assumption that Dak will hit the ground running in a new system after being in the same one for 7 yrs is being overlooked and the growing pains required to learn the system is not something to look forward to.

If reports are true that playcalls will be by McCarthy, who hasn't called plays in 5 years, and is a WCO guy, then there is room for concern there as well.

Be very careful what you wish for.
I am honestly expecting nothing. And hoping for a top 5 pick. If we dont touch Daks contract that is. If we restructure then my whole plan goes to hell

Next year is a prove it or lose it year for MM. No one left to take the fall with giving him full control of his staff.

I’m very concerned on both of those.

Ehhh…maybe the way to view it is either it’ll provide some sort of spark over the next two seasons or we will be able to move on by then.

We are strangled by the Prescott contract, but luckily it’s not all that long of a deal….thanks to his own greed. At least he has done something for us lol.

Sure, if they hire the right one.

A lot of people are foolishly believing the Cowboys won't screw this up. Odds are not in our favor here.

I am just wondering how long it will take Dak to get acclimated to a new system. It usually takes several games if not more to get used to a new system whether its an new OC or DC. Just my observations from past coaching changes.
Maybe they will have them on the field in pre-season games to get some reps in for once.

I think the real problem with Kellen Moore is his lack of consistency. He called a great game against Tampa and a crappy one against SF. He seems to try and get too cute sometimes with reverses, jet sweeps, etc. Screen passes were non existent in his offense. Run game was constantly like running into a brick wall. Combine the lack of consistency/creativity with a limited QB and mediocre weapons (outside of Pollard and Lamb) and you get an offense that can feast against avg teams but will struggle against better defenses. Dak-Moore just wasn't a good marriage. Since Dak makes $40M, he's the one that is staying. So they better find an OC that can play to his strengths.

I feel like the running game was pretty good.

Especially considering Zeke was terrible and he took away a lot of touches from our best tailback because of his contract and country club status.
It wasn't bad, just not used properly.

I’d say if there’s one completely guaranteed event to happen this off-season, it’s a Prescott restructure.

It was designed that way. Probably have to cut a few guys that you want to keep over not doing that.

I don’t disagree with your logic, just saying it’s near impossible they don’t restructure. Next year may be different.

Moore was absolutely not the problem. Top 5 offense every year. He will do great in San Diego...Prescott is just not that good...way too inconsistent, can't play two good games in a row. I agree we do need to run the ball more but Kellen Moore wasn't the only one drawing up plays. Moore wanted out and i don't blame him...
Yes Dak was / is inconsistent. However Moore was / is also. As pointed out, he went away from what worked. But I also noticed, he stuck with what didn't work. As if doing it over and over it would magically work. It never did.

That’s kind of about how I feel about those two diving into the deep end of free agency.
