A realistic look at our playoff hopes

I believe that was also the year that Brady had a season-ending injury and the Patriots were still able to achieve that record with Matt Cassell.
yeah which kind of blows all the claims that the Dynasty was all Brady right out of the water

BB got 11 wins with Matt Cassell at QB; I think Brady was injured after game 2.

I’ve been saying all year don’t give up hope as the NFL is any given Sunday. They’re closer to winning the NFC East than a wildcard so that’s my hope. Glad to see others finally coming around.

I don’t think most thought it was all Brady. Most years he had a great defense with Belichick, a defensive guru.

But Brady was definitely a clutch performer and was arguably a money QB meaning he usually came thru.

11-5 without Brady supported they had a good team but not great without Brady.

you would be surprised at the number of people that think Brady hired the staff, managed FA and the Draft; and made all the game calls.

Those aren’t fans I’d place any credibility with.

Most fans understand it was one of the greatest HC & QB combinations in NFL history.

Most of those seasons Bill built great defenses to compliment Brady’s surgical clutch performances.

What a crazy season so far. It’s certainly been entertaining to watch. Hoping we stay healthy and some luck down the stretch.
Lol, you’re right. I think this has been one of the most fun .500 teams/seasons to watch. It started so poorly with the hiring of Schotty, then trading Micah, then social distancing from the other teams offense. Then trading, rebuild the defense, the resurgence, faith that Schotty can coach. It’s nice when the team trends upwards towards the end of the season as opposed to starting string and then fading.

Brady was injured fairly early during game 1 against the Chiefs. So all 11 wins pretty much came with Cassell at QB.

We dont really know what we would have been with Parsons first half of season . But likely more than 3 wins .

And while Williams has made an impact we also must consider the other returning starters after Bye which would have also impacted with Parsons.

We still don’t have a pass rusher.

Imagine if we could have been 5-3-1 or maybe even 6-3 at the Bye with Parsons. That sets us up in much better position.

While we are no doubt a much better defense now with Williams . Dramatically better . We don’t know how much better we’d of been with Parsons and what those impacts would have been on record .

And we could have still made the trade at the Bye for Williams . Imagine Williams and Parsons on DL. Then we might have a real threat . But eventually lack of an edge rusher is going to haunt us.
Oh no question Parsons and Williams would have been great. But the actions taken by theF.O. Is not chop liver. I still contend Parsons agent tried muscling JJ and JJ sent him packing  .
Any way I'm content with our direction and well here we are and it ain't all bad.

Cowboys could win out, not make the playoffs but literally be the best team in the league at the end of regular season. That will suck.

Where we are is like the consolation for bundling the Parsons deal.

Still to be determined and if will end in a better place. But losing a generational talent is usually not a good idea.

I’d argue the Broncos, Bears,Rams, Pats, Packers, Seahawks are all playing better than Cowboys.

The way it's shaping up we "MAY" be able to drop one more game but it ABSOLUTELY CANNOT be Thursday. A loss to Detroit is a death nail. Must win.

I see a lot of talk by some of our fans about being “the best team in the league” right now. I disagree. I think it’s more that we are the “hottest” team in the league right now. Big difference.

The “best” teams in the league are consistent. Even the best teams in the league have slumps or a few games where they aren’t clicking.

Bottom line for me is the best teams have the overall record to show it, the consistency over time, and grit to overcome adversity. We have come a long way to get better. And we are certainly “hot” right now. The best team? Remains to be seen. Certainly not yet.

I understand and appreciate our excitement about our turn around. Much fun.

And from the depths we were it feels like we have rose to the top. But we are still 6-5-1 looking in from the outside.

There’s several teams which I’d argue are and have been much hotter. Like the Broncos, Pats and Bears for starters. I might even throw in the 49ers, Rams and Seahawks.

Our playoffs have started. It's kind of fun if I'm being honest. But my take is, we shouldn't even be talking playoffs until after the Chargers.

If we win the next 2, I'll be willing to think about the playoffs and what might be. The hole is quite deep.
