A smart GM would be trading Romo

I think a smart Romo would have traded Dallas. He might have a ring by now if he had found himself a contender while he had the chance.

I have been Romo's biggest fan, but this would be the time to trade him. Get a few top draft picks for him and help in the rebuild. Some team would jump at having the opportunity with Romo for the next couple of years. Then we could actually draft with an open mind without the misconception that there is some small window and get the short term thinkers thinking long term like they should be. Jerry Jones being one of those short term thinkers.

....huh...oops wrong button

A few top draft picks for a 36 year old QB who's missed games due to injury the past 3 seasons? LOL You would be lucky to get a second round pick for Romo at this stage in his career. He's a lot more valuable to the Cowboys than any draft pick they could get for him because we only won ONE game without him last season. You can't trade your starting QB when you have nothing behind them only a dumb GM would do that. Romo is the only QB we have on the roster that's ever won an NFL game.

I cant think of another team besides Denver that would give a 1 for him.....I think Denver would do it....

This thread almost sounds more like a back-handed "take a shot at the FO" thread...isn't there a "zone" for that?

You realize that we were 1 incorrect call away from going to the NFC championship against a team we already beat earlier that season in 2014? What happened in 2015 means absolutely nothing when projecting what this team will be in 2016 because our two best players were injured, plus a bunch of defenders were injured/suspended. Take Zeke and your RB problem is solved. And this 2016 defense should be better than 2014's. Sean Lee missed all of that year, we didn't have Byron Jones or Gregory, Lawrence was just a rookie. On paper (with Zeke), we should be better than the 2014 team. I don't think we'd go 12-4 or better... I think things just went our way in the regular season, but we should be poised to make a deeper playoff run.

The case can be made that we were one play away from losing against Detroit in the WC game. It's true that if you take Zeke at 4, our RB problem may well be solved but you can also make the argument that you can take another RB later and those problems would be solved. What you can't say is that if you take Zeke at 4, our Edge Rushing problems will be solved or that our situation in a year in the Defensive Backfield will be solved. These Defensive problems are real and they aren't going away. Those points are just as valid a concern for this team going forward IMO.

Romo's peak trade value was about 3 years ago.

Denver would do it and if the trade happened during the draft the Cowboys would have the 31st pick and would almost have to pick a QB. I would rather try and squeeze everything I can out of Romo with the glimmer of hope there could still be a chance at a title if we can add a few more parts and keep him healthy. Once he's gone it could get even leaner for the Cowboys than when Aikman was released. I don't see us winning 5 games without a top notch QB with the defense we have.

Going 1-11 last season with 2 veteran QBs that have won more than 30 games between them in the NFL shows how bad this team is without a franchise QB. Watching the Cowboys without Romo until they find their next franchise QB could be unbearable. We need to try and find a young, talented prospect to develop that gives us hope for the future before we move on from Romo or have to move on from him. That search needs to start today.
