A smart GM would be trading Romo

I have been Romo's biggest fan, but this would be the time to trade him. Get a few top draft picks for him and help in the rebuild. Some team would jump at having the opportunity with Romo for the next couple of years. Then we could actually draft with an open mind without the misconception that there is some small window and get the short term thinkers thinking long term like they should be. Jerry Jones being one of those short term thinkers.

Please give me one example of a smart GM trading a 37 year old QB for a lot of picks in the past 20 years.

Now add trading one with 2 broken collarbones in the last 8 months to that equation. That GM would have to be Einstein times 2 to pull that off!

Romo is worth way more to Dallas than he would be to other team's at this stage.

Denver would gladly take him and they would be in the hunt to repeat instantly. That defense, DThomas and that receiving corps plus a decent running game equals chance to win the SB this year.

Trading a QB or getting rid of a proven QB with no real replacement is stupid. We have Romo last year and we likely make the playoffs.

This should have happened years ago.

They're not going to put a superbowl team around romo so might as well trade him.

Sadly, I tend to think you are right. I don't think were closer to 12-4. We are most likely closer to 4-12.

Now, having said that, Romo is a hell of a QB. We got Dez out there..... We have this OL. And were going to return to an easier schedule this year.....

If we can get that "whatever" we had back from 2014, maybe get some luck with other NFC teams faltering around playoff time(hopefully there wont be any Carolinas this year) , get some kind of dominate, smash mouth running game going.....protect Romo. Gain some momentum , pick up a few luck missed Field Goals, bounces of the ball, etc etc....stay healthy...

Then I do think we have a chance at "pushing" for the 4th qrt in the NFC championship.....u know? I think there is an "outside" chance that could happen. And , I would push that strategy.....

Interesting take about trading Romo. He really is why a lot of people are taking short term thinking......

But I don't care. Romo is like family now. Same with WItten. I want to see these two future HOFs, great professional football players................in the SB. I think they deserve it. And as a #cowboyszone. That should be the goal.

All that stuff could happen. NFL is crazy..... now, having said all that. We are no where near the level that franchises like GB, NE, Pitt, Baltimore, Denver, Seattle are at. And we haven't been in 2 decades.

But we got Romo for 2. Lets make that push !!

You realize that we were 1 incorrect call away from going to the NFC championship against a team we already beat earlier that season in 2014? What happened in 2015 means absolutely nothing when projecting what this team will be in 2016 because our two best players were injured, plus a bunch of defenders were injured/suspended. Take Zeke and your RB problem is solved. And this 2016 defense should be better than 2014's. Sean Lee missed all of that year, we didn't have Byron Jones or Gregory, Lawrence was just a rookie. On paper (with Zeke), we should be better than the 2014 team. I don't think we'd go 12-4 or better... I think things just went our way in the regular season, but we should be poised to make a deeper playoff run.

Im not interested in making the championship game. And that was with Demarco as our back and a dominant run game. And I would argue a better defense that what we have now. And of course a year of almost injury free football. And we were also 8-8 three years before.

If you paid any attention to last year, you saw what this team really is without Romo. NOt much at all. We simply dont have a contending team. Its probably hard for you to hear that, but its reality.

Oh yah............And Gregory and Lawrence are both suspended for 4 games and are one joint away from a year long suspension. But I wont ruin your pipe dream any longer. If you want to think we are going to the SB, have fun with it. For at least another 6 months.

This team can't win without Tony, so we should keep him around until we have a replacement, IMO.

He would have worth to certain teams. But as Stasheroo pointed out, based on salary cap issues, it would never happen.

No it shouldn't have. Top-10 QBs are incredibly hard to find, and you don't just trade them away willy nilly.

When you dont have the team and all your are doing is wasting the last good year of his career it makes sense. Romo went down 2 of the last 4 years, it would have been genius.

I think it is pretty clear that the Cowboy are not winning with Romo either. Now if we had cap space, things might be different. But I highly doubt we get the pieces in place relying on the Cowboys to use the draft only.

How? Last year we went 3-1 with Romo. If Romo played 16 games that's 12-4. Went 1-11 without him. It's pretty clear we win with Romo.

You saw how this played without him and now you want to trade him?

A smart gm doesn't just build a team; he makes his owner money.

Trade Romo and get fired.
