I have been with Stash on this for a long time...cheap to me to have the best RB in the NFL would be 3 years and 25 million with 12-14 of that guareented. I am also on record being fine with 3 rd draft pick and trading Carr in the deal. However if it is more than that I will still be thrilled to watch AD play every Sunday. At this point he just belongs here.

Yes, Yes, Yes,.....

I just visited a Vikings message board.....
The are speculating that the Bucs offered there 2nd round pick for Peterson.....I think it's the number 34 pick. They are basing that from his agent wearing a Bucs hat saying game on and holding up 2 fingers....

If they really offer the 34 pick I don't think we would be able to beat that unless we gave the 27th pick.....
of course it's al just speculation but it does make a little sense...that agent didn't post that picture for nothing.

9:54pm: A source with knowledge of the situation tells Mike Florio of PFT that a recent report that the Vikings want a first-round pick and a starting cornerback isn’t accurate, which suggests it would take even more than that to even get them to consider dealing Peterson.

6:39pm: The Adrian Peterson saga continues and while many are speculating that No. 28 will be donning a different uniform this season, that isn’t necessarily the case. Jason Cole of Bleacher Report (video link) hears that Peterson would be just as happy to play out his three-year contract with the Vikings, provided that they are willing to guarantee most of it. Peterson still doesn’t trust team COO Kevin Warren, but, as Cole says, that’s something that can be repaired.

Meanwhile, a source close to the situation believes that if the disgruntled running back isn’t traded before or during next week’s draft, the Vikings wouldn’t deal him to another team before the 2015 season, Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press writes.

If he’s not traded next week, they’re going to keep him,” the source said.

The source’s reasoning was that if the Vikings want to trade Peterson, they never will have more leverage than during the draft. Minnesota, he posited, could be able to entice a team once top backs Melvin Gordon and Todd Gurley are off the board. Interestingly, the source did not believe that the Raiders were truly in the mix for AD, despite reports indicating that they are.

Peterson’s deal calls for cap numbers of $15.4MM in 2015, $15MM in 2016, and $17MM in 2017. With assurance that a good chunk of his $40MM+ deal will be guaranteed, it sounds like the running back could change his tune about staying in Minnesota.

If the Buccaneers are willing to give up that pick and take on Peterson's current contract? Best of luck to both Tampa Bay and Peterson (if he's willing to go down there and win nothing for the next several years).

From the Pioneer Press article:

There has been plenty of speculation about what the Vikings could get in return if they decide to trade Peterson. The source said they would be hard-pressed to get even a late first-round pick because of his age -- he turned 30 last month -- and his huge contract.
"If they got a second-round pick and a player, they'd be doing well," the source said.

I don't see how they can do a trade during the draft. Whatever team trades for him is going to have to renegotiate the contract. They're going to want to have those terms agreed to before they go through with any trade. No team wants to get stuck with that contract. All of that is going to take a lot longer than the 10 minutes teams have to make a pick. The only way it could go down during the draft would be if the Vikings allowed Peterson to negotiate with teams prior to the draft.

It's looking like that. The reports are now that 6 teams are interested including the Cowboys.....
It sounds like the Vikings may be waiting until draft day after Gurley and Gordon are off the board. They feel teams will pay more once the draft only has committee type backs left on the board....however this mean the Vikings will be replacing Peterson with a 2nd tier back....

These guys are going to force me to watch the draft it seems....crap...

I don't know that they wait that long...maybe early on draft day... Maybe before draft. They can't play it that "precise" can they? Lol

Like trying to hit a stock or real estate just as it peaks but before it drops.

And I've seen rumors where the Vikings have given the agent permission to do just that. Like you, they realize that a new deal would have to be agreed upon prior to the draft.

Yes.
You may be right. But I think they'd ship him off to an AFC team before they'd trade him to Dallas or Arizona.
If I'm being perfectly honest, and I were the owner or in the Vikings front office, I dang sure aint trading Peterson to Dallas or Arizona unless we're talking first round picks or two seconds and maybe a third thrown in. No way, I'm going to give either of those teams the final piece to a Super Bowl run. And if I had $13 million to spare, I'd probably let him sit. But he's not playing unless he plays with my team or unless someone is willing to pay up.

And stubborn as some of the posters here come across, I'm pretty convinced they'd do the same thing. :)

Not so sure they care AFC or NFC.
Letting him sit. Good if you want to make a statement. Expensive and you get nothing. I could see it though but don't believe they will.

I would just like to point out the situation involving Andre Johnson and the Texans a year ago.

Johnson wanted out and the Texans wouldn't (or couldn't) trade him. They go through a season winning nothing, and release Johnson a year later - getting nothing in compensation.

After his release, Johnson went and signed with the division champ Colts within a week.

If the Vikings want to be stubborn, they can do the same.

And then they can look at paying Peterson even more money when he's a year older next year, or cut him and get nothing in compensation.

Yes. Cost too much. = get nothing.

Don't get me wrong. They look to have that much control. It's a good plan. I like it.
But something unforeseen could happen.

I would think that a deal has to get done while the Vikings are on the clock at pick #11. At that point, they would be in the best position to deal Peterson while knowing who is available to replace him.

If Gurley makes it to pick #11, they could deal Peterson and draft his replacement within a 10-minute span.

Initially, I had a similar scenario playing out, if you recall. There are just so many elements in play here. It will make not only for an interesting draft but an interesting post-draft, assuming AP doesn't get traded during the draft.

Oh, I get your point. It doesn't always work out for a team.

This is pretty pathetic that the argument now for not wanting AD is because of what he did in the past. The man made a mistake doesn't he deserve a second chance? He who is without sin cast the first stone!

Also, esloan to imply that what he did was worse than what Brent did is border line insane. Brent ended a life, ended a mans life!! He also could have ended several others when he became a weapon behind the wheel. What AD did was despicable, disgusting, and in excusable, but in no way shape or form the same thing or worse than what Brent did.

For the record, and as I said above, I think both are disgusting. Also for the record, the reason I don't want Peterson here has nothing to do with what he did. He did it. He faced charges. He was punished. It is over. The only reason this was brought up was because someone said that the Vikings did not stand behind him and I think they stood behind him as much as they could considering what he did and the photos that were released.

The reason I think the Peterson situation was worse is a.) A child was the victim and I have a soft spot for kids. and b.) Jerry Brown got in that car knowing Josh Brent was drunk. Does that make it right? Hell no but he got in that car anyway. Both situations are horrible and both men were punished. As far as I am concerned, what happened in the past is over, as long as it never happens again.

I am against Peterson coming here because of what we may have to potentially give up not because of what he did in the past.

If reports are accurate that they have been offered a second round draft pick, I really hope most of you are backing off this. A second round pick for a 30 year old RB is crazy.

99.9% of the time i would agree.

But with Romo and Witten's age, Hardy on a 1 year deal, etc...I can see Jones going all in this year .
