Again with your giving up the farm quotes.....just saying your entire proposed plan goes entirely away from what worked last year...teams typically don't turn away from something that works and Garrett comes from the one back method...maybe they trade up and get Gurley but that is a risk as well. You know when you get down to it is pretty sad the team is in this situation in the first place. Especially with the success from last year. They are way to close to be tinkering with something that works. I guess that is why I am such an advocate for AD. You know what your getting and you improve at the same time. We can't say that with any rookie. Whatever they do I hope it is right cause if they don't win and the running game falters this place and the entire nation will be in an uproar.

I think its a mistake, relying on a player who has never played a down in the NFL to be the focal point on a team that is making a Super Bowl push. We are making a SB push aren't we?

How many more years does Romo realistically have? Its like they are implementing a new way of doing business, without any regard to the current situation. So, were going to have this great team in a few years, like the Patriots do, but we wont have Tom Brady. Maybe we get lucky and draft the next Russell Wilson......? And the Pats may have been the luckiest Super Bowl winner ever!

Throwing one draft pick is not "giving up the farm" --- I dont know. Just a little skeptical about the moves being made. thats all.

I only say giving up the farm because that looks like what it will take to get AP, just as I thought when this whole thing started. I've said it many times, if we can get AP for a fourth then go for it. I'm all for it. But that just ain't gonna happen.

If I had my druthers, the best thing that could have happened is Murray taking our offer. Notice, I did not say us matching the Eagles offer because I agree that that was too much for Murray. But he did not take that offer. The next, most fiscally responsible, thing to do is go get a rookie in a RB deep draft.

I think the rookie will be given every chance to be the "bellcow" in this offense. If he falters or McFadden flashes, then they will go with McFadden or Williams primarily. Is it a perfect plan? No. But it is the best option they have with Murray gone. AP is simply out of the range of what they want to give up.

Although for a 4th or even a 3rd I would have been ALLDAY- ALL -IN for BIG-D.

Young legs are tireless and in the NFL RBs on the wrong side of the big 3-0 are simply diamonds among trash. Primarily the cap implications are absorbent enough to get ahead of that curve and swing for the seats.

Kudos F.O. for having a brain again.

More Bell Cow!

If this is truly their plan, and it looks like it is. Let DM walk and sign only DMC and line up DMC or Williams or Randle or Rookie come kickoff time....

Its my belief they are making a mistake. As the season rolls on and its obvious we cant run the ball like we did with Murray. You will see Romo dropping back more and defenses ready for it.

Especially during "crunch time".

It may work out. But I dont think it does. Its a mistake. ..... They are hoping they can make a run. Not trying to make a run..........................In Romos Time Frame....

We shouldn't have to have an All-Pro at every position to win. The problem is that we have had that mentality for so long - adding as many skill players as possible while neglecting the trenches - that we can't see the difference any more.

Why did we get back into the playoffs when Parcells was coach? Because he focused on the OL and DL. We have built up our OL and they should be able to open up enough holes for an even average runner to be effective.

To me people should be talking about whether Dez is actually going to be effective given all this contract stuff. If teams drop 8 or 9 into the box and we can't make them pay then it really isn't going to matter who is back there running.

Well one thing for sure without a proven rusher back there more pressure is going to be on Romo...again something they went away from last year. I'm not buying this is going to be the approach. Maybe we get lucky and JJ goes Ditka and offers the entire draft!...obviously a joke...

Dez will be playing. Not worried about that. I am worried that, the coaches and Romo , when a play is really needed in crunch time, check to Pass, not trusting any of the RBs to get you that play.

I am worried, the opposing teams defense will no longer have the RB as its first key.
I am worried that our rookie or RBBC players, wont be able to hang when playoff or big game comes around and the level of intensity goes up 10 notches.
I am worried that we wont be able to pick up the dirty yards and we have to punt more often, putting the defense back on the field and not controlling time of possession, changing the entire strategy that go us into the playoffs last year.
I am worried that , we didn't get better on offense, in fact we have got worse.
I am worried that I will see Romo , bad back and all, scrambling around for his life back there, more then what he should be.

I am worried that maybe, just maybe, DM was a big part of the running game last year and had the experience to pick up blitzes.

I am worried about continuity and rhythm between the RB and the offensive line.

And as the season rolls on, the better teams will recognize all this, and kill us.

We may have to deal with all of these issues. I still wouldn't try to solve that by trading a pick(s) and paying big money for a 30 year old back. Unlimited cap, okay (though we would have just signed Murray), but not when every cap dollar spent on offense is less money spent on defense.

We are losing because our defense can't stop anyone. If Dez's catch counts, do we really stop Rodgers from marching GB down to answer?

If Murray can get 1000 yards before contact, then we should be able to find someone out of this group that can be effective.

Perhaps what I'm saying is that given that RB is the easiest position for a rookie to make an impact, RB is a good position to fill with low vet salaries and try to get a starter on a rookie contract. Spend that big money on other positions that take a while to develop, like pass rushing DL, which is what we did by spending money on Hardy.

Why would being an exceptional talent make him more immune to the effects of aging? Aging isn't just about wear and tear in the body, but physiologic changes occur whereby individuals have reduced fitness and reflexes.

And he just turned 30, not 50!

You might argue that an 80% Peterson is still worth 1300 yards behind our OL, but I'd argue that we could get that from a 22 year old on a rookie salary.

I would whole-heartedly disagree that a rookie will outperform today's version of Adrian Zpeterson.

Plus a rookie is going to improve while Peterson can only get worse. It's not just about next year but the next and 3 to 4 years.

Like Julius Jones did? Like Felix Jones did?

It's also about an unproven rookie vs a Hall of Fame commodity.

All legit points... Awesome post.

I'm worried that Romo and Dez both were passionate about keeping Murray on this team. We have not replaced him. I won't say we won't and I won't say that anyone available in the draft will hurt us but I also can't say that I am comfortable with what we will have going into next season.
Someone will be the starting back for us next season....None of the options right now are all that exciting.

Get over AP, unless he is cut, he will not be playing for the Boys...Mcfadden, William, Dunbar and maybe a middle round rookie will be the backs..with Mcfadden the starter barring injury...

Hey how did Williams suddenly jump Randle?
Also McFadden is 29 and makes Demarco Murray look like Cal Ripkin.

I agree it is a gamble but the gamble really started when they declined to match the Eagles offer for Murray not when they decided the price for Peterson was too high.

If this rookie class was not so stocked with RBs I would be much more worried than I am now. Our scouts have done a pretty stellar job and our offensive line is good enough to make up for some of that rookie learning curve. I have said it before, I think whatever rookie walks in here this season will be the odds on favorite for rookie of the year. It is the perfect situation for a rookie RB to come into.

Depends on if the RB is Emmitt Smith or Blair Thomas.

I think back to that one a lot. If we had kept the No.1 pick that year instead of using it in the supplemental draft on Steve Walsh, we could have ended up with Thomas instead of Smith. I'd like to think we would have drafted someone like Cortez Kennedy instead, but if we had drafted Thomas, where we would have been without Smith?

We wouldn't even have had to take Thomas to screw up on Smith. We could have taken one of the two backs taken with the 19th and 20th picks (Darrell Thompson and Steve Broussard) after we took Smith at 17.

Fortunately, our scouts hit on that one and we'll be certainly hoping that they hit again, but that doesn't mean this "stocked" RB draft class is going to look so stocked when we look back on it. We'll have to hope that if we don't go after Peterson, our team is one that got the coin toss right.

That's one reason I do like the McFadden pickup. I don't believe that we should just rely on him to resurrect his career, but it at least gives us one more dart to throw at the position to find one that sticks if we do choose to roll the dice in the draft.

And I get that. I understand......I get it. I am not saying my way is the right way without any doubt. except for the prescription for more bellcow......never have enough bellcow.

But my fear is, how long is it going to take to build that Defense? And who is going to get the money , on the defensive side of the ball? Who are they paying to come here? I think were planning a 1-3 year rebuild of the defense.... That will take money, and we will need to hit on multiple draft picks....Seems like a lot to me .

And, by the time it gets done.....Is Romo still here?

We have built the team around Romo and the offense. Thats are bread and butter. And all we have to do is keep that in place and we can make a run, within Romos time frame.

Keeping DM or upgrading that position is easier then hitting on multiple draft picks and waiting for next years Defensive FA market....

Thats the way I see it. But, apparently the FO and a lot of others don't. Everybody is planning long term, when I am planning the next 2 years. Because I don't know what this team is after Romo....Who is that QB.

Yeah sure, some teams make it to the super bowl without great QBs...... I would argue thats an uphill battle(imho)........When were so close, right now, with are all world, well paid, franchise QB Tony Romo....

You certainly like listing the extreme best case for your position. I would take Marion Barber or Demarco Murray's rookie contracts over paying AP and giving up a top 100 pick. Only way I trade our third is if we are coming up to it and it's wiped out.

This should get you in a froth. I would rather pay TJ Yeldon $400k annum rookie deal over AP $9m.

Not sure if he is referring to jones statement as winning or if he's saying they are winning the battle to land him

I think he's referring to them talking Jerry out of giving up too much in a trade to get Peterson.

I'm not giving up a third this year either. Still a few holes to fill for that run!

That's your prerogative. No harm, no foul. If they went that way, I just hope it works, cause when Romo goes, so do any dreams of a championship.
