You see what the numbers clearly show.

And 'Hall of Fame' running backs are not easy to find. Not in any way, shape, or form.

This is true and having a very good RB I'm sure would do a lot in helping a young QB as he continues to gain experience. If I am going to get rid of a HOF RB why would I settle for some mid rd or even a 2nd rd draft choice

If I thought we needed a HoF RB to win, I would be all for it. But I think a solid RB will be enough and are parts of the team are more important. Give me defense and we can win with an elite QB, elite WR, elite offensive line, elite TE and solid RB.

If they don't trade him this year maybe they do keep him for the remainder maybe they trade him next year. There are a lot of maybe's, but Vikes are not forced to do anything. Much of the talk is Minn has no choice in the matter fact is they control the entire situation and unless they get a very heavy offer I seriously doubt they will get rid of Peterson.

Seriously? You honestly think what you're typing here? Or is this just an attempt to take the opposing view?

First, you think the Vikings will pay him even more money next year when he's a year older?

Secondly, you think anyone would trade for him at that point? A year older, costing even more?

It would be different if the vikes were cap strapped but they are not

It would also be different if money saved couldn't be rolled over into future years - like when the quarterback they hope becomes something needs his own big money deal? Or when these multiple #1 picks they've drafted come due for their own new deals?

If the Vikings truly thought they had a shot? Sure, I'm a big fan of taking it, if and when you can. But I see no way that team gets by the better ones in the league, with or without Peterson.

Because you'd rather get something for him rather than nothing, like the Texans ended up with for Andre Johnson when they botched the same situation last year.

Yeah, the old 'plug and play', 'good enough' argument. The same thinking that got us Julius Jones instead of Stephen Jackson, and Felix Jones instead of the tons of better options available.

Me? lol you want Peterson so bad and acting like a typical cowboy fan when they felt they could be anything in a trade for players for coakley when he was here. This is about what you want not about Minn. Minn is on record saying yes they want him to stay. All you got is rumors and your own false hope. lol

Now you tell me why would anyone want to trade next year when he is a year older? LOL why the hell would I want a guy in dallas using our picks for a guy who is at the end of his career and by next year would be worth even less? One min you are talking HOF RB next Minn can't get rid of him any other year except this season. LOL

Please this is about your own desire to have AP and selling it anyway you can. One min AP is a HOF player but next year he will not be worth much? Why would I want that player?

You did nail it to you this is all about Romo and you not wanting to be patient so in the end again this is about your own wants and spinning this anyway you can

First off... How you doin' Stash? You're a poster that I agree with much of the time so I'm not going to argue with you too much on this subject. We simply differ here.

No, they're not saying it. And they've repeatedly chosen to not say it whenever they've been asked.

Yeah, I don't think they'll ever say, "No matter how upset he gets, we aren't trading him."

Teams just don't really say that. Besides everyone agrees that if Minn gets enough compensation they'll trade him.

I have no doubt that Minn doesn't want a disgruntled on their team taking a lot of salary cap space. I just think that what it will take to get AP away from them is way, way above what Dallas would be willing to pay.

I think that if they don't get what they want, Minn will simply deal with him being unhappy rather than fire selling him to another team. Especially the Cowboys.

Then why was the guaranteed money structured the way it was? Why not spread it out if you intended to honor the entire thing? Or better yet, why not guarantee more of it? C'mon, you can see this if you're willing to look.

I think they didn't spread it out as much as they could have because going forward, AP will be an over 30 back who will be getting no younger. NFL teams do all they can to mitigate things after a back turns 30. I'm sure they would have liked to have no guaranteed money after this year. Any NFL team would like that. It is part of the reason why Dallas let Murray walk, IMO. It is also part of why I don't think Dallas wants to make this AP trade now. Unless AP would have no problem taking significantly less and Minn wouldn't ask for very much compensation, Dallas wouldn't be in the equation... and we all know Minn wants a lot and AP won't play on the cheap.

RB's named Murray they have. They set the value for what they believed Murray was worth.

No, they set the number they felt Murray was worth and they stuck to it. Good for them.

I hear you man. You feel like it was more a problem with Murray himself why Dallas let him walk. I think it is more a reflection on how they value the RB position.

While I do think Murray's injury history worried the Cowboys, he had everything else going for him. Dallas clearly liked having him as their lead back. His intangibles are off the chart. Dallas loved his mental make-up and his toughness. IMO, if Dallas was going to pay big at RB, I think they would have ponied up for Demarco.

Now, like you, I could see them paying AP a significant salary this year to try to push to the super bowl. Where I differ from you is that I feel like Minn is going to ask for way more than Dallas is willing to part with for a guy his age, and I think that Dallas wouldn't want to push much money at all forward for a back his age. We probably differ in what we see as significant draft compensation, too. I would think long and hard about a 3rd for AP, but I wouldn't want to pay a 1st or second pick for him. I'd rather draft a 21 year old and not be worrying a year from now if his skills are starting to diminish already.

I honestly think that Dallas feels the same way I do on the subject, but I could be wrong.

They also went out and signed the best pass rusher available for one year with no ability to tag in 2016 to a big money contract.

Hardy is a completely different story. 26 years old is the first thing. If Hardy stays clean and performs like they expect, they'll sign him to a long-term deal. If they had AP on a one year deal (which he wouldn't do), they wouldn't give him a long-term deal going forward because he is on the tail end of his career and it would be stupid.

Also, Hardy plays DE. NFL teams have shown that they have no issue paying edge rushers big time money. Dallas is no different there. A great edge rusher is very, very difficult to find and teams will pay. For a long time now, NFL teams have been shying away (for the most part) in paying big money to backs. Paying big money to 30 year old backs is almost unheard of.

I mentioned earlier that many times you and I agree on subjects. Hardy was one of them. I see a young, dominant edge rusher who didn't cost any draft picks to get and like you, I was all for it. Age, position, and no draft picks were all in his corner.

For AP, age, position, and draft picks are all against him.

All due respect, I think I've pointed out some things I do think you've missed.

Well, we agree that Dallas has not come out and said, "Just because we didn't pay Murray a lot of money, doesn't mean that we won't pay another RB money". Of course, nobody would reasonable expect the team to do that even if they don't want to pay any RB big money. I disagree that Dallas not saying that means anything in relation to the RB position.

I also disagree that the the Hardy deal is anywhere remotely close to what would happen with an AP deal. No draft picks, age, and position are polar opposites in this discussion. Only link is domestic violence and that isn't part of what I'm talking about.

I never said Dallas won't spend big on any position regardless of age. I said they don't want to pay age, and that they don't want to spend big on a RB. And that is without taking into consideration that this draft is filled to the gills with good running back prospects and that Dallas has pretty much had personal visits with all of them.

I honestly think it is perfectly clear that this just isn't going to happen. You think it is, and that is fine. We will find out soon enough which one is right.

In the end, we both want Dallas to do well and have a healthy salary cap going forward.

Yeah, the old 'gotta have superstars at every skill position' arguement. The same thinking that has made us mediocre for 20 years.

I don't think he is saying that you have to have superstars at every position.....I think the concern in this case isn't just having a superstar in Peterson. We ran and ran and ran last year. In a throwing 1st and 2nd, and running 3rd league we Ran 1st and 2nd and threw 3rd.....and it worked like a charm....So the desire is to upgrade or remain equal in the position that carries the team....So far it looks like we are weaker today than at the end of the season at a position that carries a heavy load..
Its not at all about having a Madden roster. Its about not getting weaker at a position that is the focus of your offensive attack.

13 mill would then be enough reasons for Peterson to remain. I'm sure after last season he could use the money

Yeah that gives Minny some more leverage;

So if AP sits out, he loses a year and 13 million.

AP must really want out...................

If I were AP and Minny doesn't accept the 3 from whoever, instead of demanding an unreasonable amount of multiple picks, I'm not exactly happy and , I would show up , collect my money. But thats about it. Minny doesn't want or need that!

This relationship is going to come to an end. Minny is coming down, AP is accepting that offer. I am just disappointed it wont be from Dallas. ???? And if Dallas wont even give up a 2/3, they must not think very much of AP and will get no where close to paying him a top 3 rb contract.

Disappointing. You think Mcfadden has been working out like crazy in the off season?

You are still paying superstar money to QB, WR and RB. That has gotten us into trouble before.

I don't know if working out can protect him from the injuries he has become known for.
I saw McFadden being called "Chinadoll" by a few raider fans. They say he sure is pretty but just breaks way too easily....But they all say he has talent and is a good player.

Again, I will cut through everything else and ask:

Does anyone think the 2015 Vikings have a chance to win it all?

If your honest answer is "No", what is the point of using $13 million that could be used otherwise - now or in the future - for one more year of a guy who doesn't want to be there?

I think they'll have a shot at the postseason.

Maybe they trade him with exactly what you wrote in mind. I'm not saying it isn't going to happen. I'm saying it isn't going to happen in Dallas. Minn will ask for way too much.

That means you have to hit on multiple picks in the draft and FA. And it will take at least a year or 2. And that if you get all those picks right.

Losing are bread and butter running game , is going to make the defense even worse. The only reason we won ball games last year is because we controlled TOP with our running game. Otherwise, teams would've jumped us early with more chances on offense, and we would've been playing catch up.

Gun-slinging Romo out there. And, I dont think that part of Romo even exists anymore. Hello Weeden, goodbye season. Back to 8-8. If we cant control TOP with our running game this year, we wont win the NFCE, I don't care how many Defensive players you draft .

I get it...But so has throwing the ball too often. I keep remembering that play against the Giants where Little Gronkowski (think it was him), missed on a blitzing LB and it led to Romo getting broken...Rookie backs can be suspect in blitz pickups ect....Our QB is not exactly young and we are risking putting him in a situation to take a lot of hits.
There is a reason Romo and Dez really wanted us to resign Murray and nothing makes me believe that McFadden has made them any less concerned.

And the team let him walk for this reason. They knew he was a time bomb and they got lucky with him being relatively injury free....So they replaced him with a bigger time bomb. Do you want to cross your fingers and hope you get lucky again?

Emmitt disagrees with you....I disagree with you. This train is not stopping until; 1. AD is traded to another team 2. AD is traded to the Boys 3. AD is released (which ensures he will be a Cowboy) 4. AD shows up to camp and publically states he is not leaving....until then you're on an island with what 10 others...not a one is a HOF or ex or current player...(have fun)...while I am on an island with a HOF RB, current and former NFL players, countless fans, and endless media personna....my island is better.the atmosphere is better..which again is something you can not debate...
