Why should Minny guarantee anything to Peterson? They paid him a lot of money last year for not playing. They owe him nothing when it comes to guarantees. If he is on the field for game 1 for the Vikes then his entire salary for this season is his, which is roughly 28% of what is left on his contract. I doubt Minnesota cares if it gets ugly or not. They hold the cards.

MINN doesn't have any leverage. If they want him they have to pay him 13m. End of story.

If they want him to be happy they need to show a good faith gesture like BUFF did with McCoy and guarantee some big bucks.

If AD gets a lingering injury in camp, he might have to go on the IR and still get paid. Remember Jay Ratliff and Kyle Orton??

Then you tell me why he wants out? Why does he want to get away from the only team willing to pay him $13 million, a ridiculously bloated amount compared to what any other team in the league is paying? Give me some of this logic you're claiming to have?

And this guy has suddenly never said otherwise? He's never stated that Peterson wanted to play elsewhere or that "he'll never play another game for the Vikings"? That wasn't an "actual story" too? Or does it not count because it doesn't fit your agenda here?

Yeah, likely you. And if anyone else did, they're in the vast minority on the subject. Nobody is looking for the Cowboys to pay that much, least of all the Cowboys themselves.

Well look, if AP gets released and we pay what we offered Murray then I'll be as happy or happier than you. I'm simply against trading for him or paying him what a lot of people are suggesting we pay, which is definitely more than 10 million a year. Murray had a record year last year and I think it would be asking a lot to think that we are going to get that kind of production out of anyone.

That's why I'm grateful we signed Hardy and saved our picks to draft defensive players. We need to be able to stop some people so that our offense isn't also our defense. Just like we can't pass all the time and have the offense work, we can't rely on the offense to make up for a bad defense. We need more balance in that regard too.

I personally think AP is getting bad advice from his agent who wants to cash in on a new contract -- any new contract. If no one other than that Vikings are going to be willing to pay him 13 million then he isn't going to want to leave. Now in hindsight it looks to me that they were trying to get the Vikings to trade him so that he would go somewhere else and still get paid 13. The fact that a trade is highly unlikely now that the draft is done is why his agent is now saying redo the contract with the Vikings.

So reading projected RB totals for this coming year after the draft. Remember the word projected.

DeMarco Murray 1250
Gordon 1025
Gurley 562
Coleman 932
McKinon (AD's backup) 634
DMAC 525
Randle 336
Dunbar 134
Williams 0

The RB projected to have the most yards yep....that guy...the best All Day 1429!! What a trio this team is putting out there! His backup is projected for more yards than DMAC...for those of you wanting the projected total for our current RBs...995 yards..yippy!

What are these numbers based on?

And my thinking is that the Vikings don't want to honor his existing contract either, but they don't want to cut him and watch him run somewhere else.

Minnesota wants to have their cake and eat it too. And I see the rest of the NFL calling their bluff. But if they want to pay Peterson $45 million over the next 3 years? More power to 'em! That's a ridiculous contract that neither I nor anyone else in the league wants any part of.

The contract is the biggest barrier to trading him though. If they truly don't want him they are going to have to cut him. If he is as dominant as everyone around here is saying then they will just hold on to him.

In a world where cap space couldn't be rolled over? Sure. But wasting $15 million on a player who clearly doesn't want to play for you, to win nothing in 2015 seems a huge waste of resources that could be used better for the future.

Per an article on PFT

Contrary to whatever it was that Cris Carter was hinting about last week, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson wasn’t traded. And Peterson’s agent has acknowledged that a trade won’t happen— but that the Vikings should extend “a commitment to make him retire as a Viking.”

Its time to give this fantasy up folks. His own agent has publicly stated HE WILL NOT BE TRADED. Let this go folks.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...-whether-commitment-will-be-made-to-peterson/
Something tells me that there will be folks who still believe in the fantasy.

Romo was the best rater passer, Dez caught the most TDs, and Murray had the most yards by 500 yards. We won 1 playoff game. How much 'easier' do you think offense can get? We need more resources spent on defense. I'm not the one that is being short-sighted.

Um a lot?

Because Adrian is a lot better than Murray?

We didn't average the most points in football or the most points per drive.

You act as if our offense with Murray was the Pinnacle of NFL evolution when it wasn't even the best in the league.

I honestly don't think it will happen after everything I've read. Just stirring the pot at this point.

It does not matter whether there is a lot of chatter. It certainly does not matter what some retired NFL RB or WR says about the situation. You know what matters? What the Vikings and the Cowboys say and do and they have both been pretty clear, both by words and actions that AP is not coming here.

Probably not. But your chatter doesn't matter either. To ignore the possibility and come across as you know exactly what is going on , is false. You got the draft pick plan wrong. You could be wrong about this.

All of this is just speculation , which for some reason people don't like. Not sure why, because as fans , that's what we pretty much do....... Even coaches/scouts/GMs/players speculate about such matters.... So, were speculating about AP being a Dallas Cowboy.....

Sort of like speculating who were going to draft, or what are record will be, etc etc.....

Not sure why people have a problem with that? You tell me I need to "realize its not happening". Well you need to realize, we didn't draft that stud rookie RB, which was the plan all along? Right?

And, now, well, not drafting a RB was the plan.... is that the story now?
