I don't care for this move at all. I have seen very little positive play from Jeff Heath. He's terrible in coverage and takes horrible angles. At least Dixon can be a box guy, not sure what Heath can do. This is a poor decision IMHO.

Don't forget Dixon led the team in tackles this preseason.....But that doesn't count I guess:(

Jeff Heath made it for STs. He was the top guy until Spillman came along.

Spillman is said to be a very good special teams player and a pretty decent backup safety...

I don't think it's just that. He's still the team's third-best safety. That might not be saying much but it's the truth of the matter until someone proves to be better.

I keep reading how the Cowboys hope that this guy and others would turn into special team studs when they drafted them. Probably one of the reasons there is NO depth on this roster. Wasting valuable draft picks on special team fodder, instead of trying to find legitimate starters, or guys who can develop into good players. Something that has gone on since Jimmy left, then again after BP left.

the entire 2009 draft

It would be strange to keep a guy on your original 53 and then not want him on your practice squad.

It's because they knew they would be churning the bottom of the roster and he was one of the first in line to go.

Secondly they picked up the kid from SF who can play safety in a pinch.

That still doesn't explain how you would think he was worth keeping on the 53 and then not want him on your practice squad the next day.

But they liked his attitude for the 53 man roster just fine on the on the initial cut down day - what 40 hours ago?

Again, they retained a couple guys on the 53 man roster that were going to be churned.

You can't sign anyone else you cut someone.

In addition the kid they signed from SF can play safety in a pinch AND is a special teams player.

It's like your a brick wall this morning Winicki. We're talking about putting him on the practice squad.

I think Harris is the top guy for Special Teams,by a large margin.

But yes, when the coaches and staff sit down to discuss cuts you can be 100% sure that the Specials Teams coach has a VERY large say in things.

Clarence Hill should repeat after Forest Gump.

#1 He's hasn't passed through waivers yet, so we don't know (yet) if the Cowboys will not sign him for the PS. What we've seen so far is speculation.

Secondly since they signed the kid from SF, perhaps they no longer view needing a knucklehead safety on the PS.

LOL!

Practice squad spots have some value too. And when you've just signed a safety and you've got another safety coming back onto the roster in 4 games maybe the team simply doesn't see the need.

We're going on what Clarence Hill said. That he's no lock for the practice squad. That they like his talent not his attitude.
