It's mostly verbatim but I did remove a nasty, nasty curse word that I'm sure the language filter caught. Not sure what else can be so controversial that it offended someone's sensibility:

Of course Troy is right and he's just stating the obvious. Remember in the old CZ days when some posters tried to convince us that we're run just like every other team? Good times and folks would debate the issues without being labeled "haters," "fake fans," or told to go root for another team unlike today's newer posters who can't discuss and debate an opposing viewpoint. Those threads would go on and on but it's obvious the way this team is run is detrimental to a winning football program.

Having said that, I don't think Jerry cares one bit. He's not stupid and he's been criticized for his role for many, many years. He saw the formula of success when he had Jimmy but that wasn't good enough and he's not willing to repeat that same formula. His goal is money. It's what drives most wealthy folks. One billion is not enough.....they need to have two billion. And then when they have two billion, they need four.....it's what drives them. Wins, losses and Superbowls are meaningless if he's not making money. He's a salesman that makes money hand over fist. When he goes to football stadiums and he sees the sea of Cowboy's jerseys and how well fans travel even having not accomplished a damn thing in almost 25 years, that just validates him. He's a winner, all the way to the bank. He got a new stadium, the Star, a yacht, a plane, investments out his butt and he hasn't seen a SB in 25 years. Heck, he hasn't seen an NFC Championship game, let alone SB.

I've said it 100 times. The NFL is not run like a normal business. Jerry and others have become multi-billionaires without having a quality product; fan funded stadiums and extravagant seat licenses have seen to that. Troy stating the obvious won't change a thing.

But the full Jason Garrett apology tour is on. I like Speak for Yourself and they just had a segment where they talked about Troy's comments. I bet they referenced the part about looking at kickers five or six times, yet they apparently missed that the team did look at kickers, just like Jason said.

It's one thing to short-circuit a proven winner like Bill Parcells. I get that. But acting like Jason freaking Garrett is just helpless is so absurd. There's zero evidence of him being an above average coach anywhere.

Makes you wonder why Jason didn't get out of town after 2014 when his contract was up, since apparently his greatness has no chance of showing itself here. He must not have thought things were that impossible here.

Troy was VERY VERY VERY vocal about the culture back when he played during the post Jimmy days. He has criticized the lack of focus, lack of accountability, etc....and the dysfunction at the top...right from that day one.

They were ahead of the league for a long time with innovative ideas such as computerized talent evaluation and shopping at less-known colleges for talent, and even in foreign countries. Landry was also innovative with his play ideas. It went downhill in the 80s when other teams figured out the Cowboys and the Cowboys no longer had a talent edge and their schemes were better known how to defend.

to add to your post, I believe jeri has become addicted to the fame and limelight and he cant walk away from it. Not having it makes him miserable and its why he couldn't stand having guys like Jimmy & Parcells who stole his show. I really think if he lost the fame and no one ever spoke to him, asked his opinions, put him in print, radio or film, he'd wither and die from a broken heart, maybe within a few months. Since nothing gives him more pleasure, its basically impossible for him to change.

My dad went to a game a few years ago and was there early and saw jeri come out onto the field by himself and walk slowly across the field & back, looking up into the stands, sucking up for adulation...he could see no other discernible purpose to his stroll. That’s part of it . Definitely had less talent. Biggest talent deficiency was after losing Danny White in 1986 for the season which begun 6-2 with him and finished 7-9.

In 1987 and 88 with the likes of Hogeboom and Pueller at QB hoping Danny would recover we couldn’t overcome even with Herschel leading the league in rushing.

Also during the 80’s losing key asst coaches like Ditka and Reeves who took their teams to Super Bowls in 80’s and even Gene Stallings who went to Alabama taking them to a National Championship.

It was a combination of all of these factors.

CL, I almost always agree with your takes, but I'm confounded by your take here.

All of this is correct, except that Hogeboom was gone from the team by '86, his first year as a Colt. But your evaluation is otherwise spot-on. When White got hurt in '86, Pelluer just didn't know the offense like White did, and their other option was Reggie Collier, who showed some sparks, but was very rough on the edges.

LOL all we see in this forum is people talking about how clueless Aikman is when he would criticize Romo, Dez, the defense, Parcells ect. Now that he wants to criticize how this team is run you all on his jock? You guys are just as hypocritical as him.

I thought about what i typed and i meant every word of it. He was the leader of the team, he did nothing to stop the drugs and rest of that mess that brought the organization down. It wasnt Jerry, it started with Jimmy quitting on his team, and leaving that culture he allowed behind. The exact same culture he left at the University of Miami. Jimmy cared about winning, he didnt care how it was done. He didnt care about the players.

Now Jerry might not run the organization the way most would, but he genuinely loves every single person that he employs. This is why i defend Jerry so much. Because it doesnt matter if the team is losing or winning the guy backs his team 1000% and takes all the blame 1000% of the time. He's made some stupid decisions but dont act like he hasnt built winners, the players just didnt get it done. 2007, 2009(maybe) 2014, 2016.

I don't see how troy was responsible for his team mates off the field behavior.
He was the teams qb , not their nanny
