I'm guessing that Morris is more insurance than Zeke not returning ; if they signed Ajayi , then I'd begin to worry about Elliott not returning any time soon............At this point of his career , Morris isn't capable of 25 carries a game.........................

Wonder if Alf may be given consideration as the 3rd back if Weber fails to impress?

This is a good move. It’s not about replacing Zeke...no one’s at that point yet. This brings in a veteran back who already knows the basic offense, who averaged 5 yards per carry in this offense, and who was on an NFL team last season. He is what’s available right now without making a binding commitment. Also a veteran presence for the young guys to watch.

Ajayi would be a move if they weren't expecting Zeke back anytime soon. This move screams a deal will get done. Morris is likely just a veteran presence in camp that will be gone by week 1.

what I don't get about this Morris move -
1) Morris is not noted as a blitz blocker,
2) he has very average receiving skills so he doesn't help us there either.
the two things he has going for him is game experience and run instincts, he does sense openings between tackle well, but also the very reason why he is still out there on the street is
he does not have the "splash" factor burst
- and remember he was benched/game inactive because they wanted more splash and burst from McFadden in 2016
- and it's a reason why Morris was not re-sign with the Cowboys after 2017.
3) as far as game experience, the team was willing to go with Rod Smith and his lack of game experience but now would so with Morris ?

- also the more reps Alf takes in camp/preseason, that's reps and snaps taken away from the young guys which camp-preseason is the PERFECT time for them to get reps/experience.

I’m a little boggled by it too. We have “bodies” already. What does this signify.

Morris would be taking reps and snaps away from the young RBs, .. and camp and preseason is ideal time and situation for learning experience for young RBs.
I don't get this move at all. Sounds like " panic".

well...after careful reflection...the Saints DID wanna sign him but we stopped him and he chose US. He is a great vet for the lockerroom. Adds some stability while we figure out the Zeke situation. I also think its a case of the team in the F.O. going all in on the 2019 season. This team is loaded for bear, but can the HC/OC/QB stay on the same page? That was an issue last few years. MUCH hinges on Moore and Dak.

I always thought Alfred Morris was a pretty good back who just didn't get enough carries. I understand his carries would be limited with Zeke on the team, but I was never as down on him as many on this forum seem to be. Shrug.

I think we need a triple face palm icon. A single face palm is just not enough.

This is the sort of signing that makes you think the Cowboys aren’t making any organizational decision making progress.

This is a short term thing.
Come on guys, think this thru

Morris is a consumate pro with great attitude, work ethic, and leadership
We have a bunch of rookies who could use his presence right now

Hes not any sort of regular season solution...

Shiningstar: Cowboys, the only team trying to lose in the offseason.

CBZ: you re a hater, its to early, we got a whole season to laugh at you, this FO is not going to make bad moves.

JJ: Stephen hold my beer.

Reality: (facepalming) here we go again.

Yeah, but "gosh, he's such a good guy though!"

And yet someone else they know and are "comfortable with", with a team that places such a huge value on being "comfortable".

I've never found that "comfortable" wins. "Uncomfortable" wins.

They drafted Zeke because he was the highest rated player on their board. If Bosa hadn't went to the chargers at number 3 he would have been the pick and not Zeke.

The fact you think they drafted Zeke at 4 because how bad the season was before is the problem. They drafted number 4 overall because of terrible QB play. You are arguing against that and you're wrong.

Yes. RB isn't important. Committee is fine.

Yet, our board had Zeke so very highly ranked.

Again, if RB isn't valued, we'd never have had an RB ranked that highly.

Typical knee jerk reaction. They need bodies in camp don’t they? What’s the problem?

Why would you pay Morris anything? He has zero upside. He was done years ago.

Think this signing worries Zeke? No way.

They should at least take a shot on an unproven young guy who may have a chance of becoming a player.

This signing makes Zeke feel all warm and fuzzy. No threat whatsoever.
