My stance hasn't changed for months. The trade should have been made already and the NFL should have had a special supplemental type draft to announce the pick. Maybe sometime late February. Carsus will walk in the Valley of Ranch.

Then we'll start at 2 and divvy up the mortals in April.

This thing was handled wrong and I don't think Wentz likes it. You could say he has a chip on his shoulder. Or even a massive piece of wood.

But I bet we are - when Romo breaks that collar bone again - or retires

Your post prompted me to educate myself a little on our 1st round draft history, out of curiosity, because I didn't really know for sure. Below is a summary of what I found, for the sake of discussion.

Since 1967 Dallas has picked in the:

- Top 5 pick 4 times, including this year
- Top 10 pick 4 times
- Top 20 pick 14 times
- After the Top 20 19 times

They have had no 1st rounder 9 times
They have had multiple 1st rounders 6 times. I had to guess which 1st rounder was the original one for the counts above so I could have missed on a couple.

**No records of individual selection #s at NFL.com until 1967

Not a fan of trading up for a FCS Qb. I like Wentz a lot. Don't know if I am confident enough in his NFL future to mortgage two drafts.

That said, this is the one and only position we should trade up to 1 for. In a way, it's a risk worth taking. As long as we are not trading 3 1sts

Trade back a few, pick Lynch and be done. Enjoy the starting player on defense we get with the extra pick.

That's fine if you think lynch can be an elite QB
I'm not sold he can be. I hate giving up picks but at some point to get a top QB prospect you are going to give up picks unless you expect a 2 win season soon. So how many times are you thinking we will be this high in the draft to even have the option of trading up without gutting more than one draft?
Getting a QB is a pay now or pay much more later thing

I can't believe all those advocating for the Cowboys to move up to #1 to get Wentz. Getting all excited like there is a chance it could happen. It's simply not going to happen. Zero chance.

So you guys would trade our entire tradeable 2016 draft plus maybe a high 2017 pick to get Wentz?

Good Lord noooooo! That would go down in History as the biggest mistake trading all of those picks for Wentz. My personal draft expert/ scout team which consists of me, my next door neighbor, and the dude that runs the register at the Italian Cafe think Wentz will amount to nothing more than a serviceable qb. He won't be a HOFer, perennial pro bowler type.

I would HATE moving up to get anyone ahead of our #4 pick....but, what on God's green earth would Risen do if Dallas traded to #1 and took Goff????

I'm at the point where the first pick needs to be one of the two, Goff or Wentz (if they think he's worth it). Otherwise, this draft will be a failure until proven to the contrary. The contrary being using the high picks on defensive linemen that work out and Romo making it through the vast majority of the next two seasons. Or, you know, the team finding a lot of good players and going deep in the playoffs.

There is nobody worth losing our 2nd round pick over. Not even Tunsil.

Trading from 4 to 1 is gonna take a lot more than our 2nd round pick. Value charts show our entire 2016 draft doesn't even come close to the value of the #1 pick. It would require future 1st and maybe 2nd round picks.

I'd love Wentz but no way in hell would I be happy if we traded up to 1 and gave away all those picks. Rather stay put and take our chances with Goff.

This to, Im not anti-QB. And Im not 100% sold on any of these QB's.....but I wont be mad if we take Goff,Wentz or Lynch at #4....I will be mad if we give up so many picks to move 3 spots when at least 1 probably even 2 of those QB's will be available at #4......

May not be as high as some think. Depends on two things. One, is someone else trying to trade up. Two, do they actual like the player themselves. If no one else is offering to trade up and say they like a couple of other guys just about as well then two 1's and a 2 might get it done.

The cost may not be as prohibitive as people think.

Draft charts aren't the driver here, demand is. If Tennessee can move from 1 to 4 and they know that two teams that now select in front of them are going to pick QBs, they essentially are in the exact same spot they were with the first overall, and they can get an additional pick or two for their trouble.

Now trades that might force them out of the top five or ten are a different matter, those moves will be a lot more expensive as Tennessee is risking losing out on one of their top two (non-QB) favorites at the top of their board.

The only way it gets super expensive is if Cleveland has to have Wentz or that some team pays a steep bill to move to SDs spot and then tries to jump again, which is unlikely.

edit: looks like Conner was thinking along the same lines
