Allbright: Cowboys exploring QB options; possibly moving to #1 for Wentz

I hope this is an effort to convince someone else to make the move. I would love to see Philly mortgage their future to move up and get Wentz the way Wash did for RG III. It wouldn't hurt my feelings if SF did it either. If someone other than us does it then it guarantees either Ramsey or Tunsil fall to 4. Ramsey to pick or Tunsil for someone to trade up for.

I'd throw up and understand and then not understand this move.

Scouts might say "He could be the guy"

But anyway, I'll take that as a yes that you basically trade all this year's draft and a key part of next years for one player who is still a risk.
Say 15% chance that he's that 10-15 year guy that is a stud (not just an average NFL starter) and maybe 50% chance he is a solid long term starter. That's about as good as the scouts can do.

I think we should be able to negotiate a better deal than that

If jerry can get Christie to go to games...he can get trump in the war room to negotiate a trade

Who knows, someone might love Goff and Wentz could end up at 4.
At least not yet, nobody knows for sure.

That would surprise me. I can't see a scenario that Wentz makes it to #4. Can't see him getting past Cleveland at #2. Wentz could go #1 overall or second overall.

Goff, I am a little less sure of where he could go. Possibly 2nd if a team trades up and steals Wentz from Cleveland. Possibly 3rd if Wentz is gone and the 9ers, Eagles or Rams think Dallas will draft him so they trade with San Diego. Possibly fourth if Dallas thinks he is a franchise guy. With Goff...I have no clue. He may even fall in the draft for all I know.

I'm a lot more sure regarding Wentz.

Trading up to no 1 to nab a 3 or 4 year clipboard holder. Sounds brilliant.

No 1 3000 points.
No 4 1800 points.

I guess we can trade 1, 2, 3, 4 and next years 1st for a back up QB

or we could use those 5 picks to actually help the team.

If there is any truth at all to this rumor it means they believe Romo is done!

Could mean they realize the cost may never be cheaper. If not now, when? And what's it gonna cost then?

I don't see it either, but it's not locked in yet this year like it has been a few others.

One thing I am sure of: Dallas is not trading up to 1st overall to get Wentz.

Agreed. We may never again be in this close striking distance to the #1 overall pick with a team that is arguably talented enough to contend.

But I bet we are - when Romo breaks that collar bone again - or retires

He won't be holding a clipboard for long. Are you really surprised that Romo's career may be over at any moment?

FWIW a guy called a national sports show, forget which one, about two weeks ago said he was from Dallas and that his contacts told him the Cowboys were serious about moving to one for Wentz.

Not as reliable as the liquor store guy but this rumor has been floating around a while apparently.

Keep saying that you are sure. Say it enough and it may come true. Right now, anything is possible. I do remember the comments from an assistant coach to Jason when Wentz first walked in the door. He told Jason that "there is your guy". I can easily see a situation where Wdntz has been the target this entire time and they was hoping to get him at 4, but they plan on getting him no matter the cost.

I'm SURE:laugh:

Seriously, if anyone on this forum would like to place a bet on it, I'm here and waiting.
They can PM me.

Dallas will NOT trade up to #1 overall to take Wentz

Save the thread and remind how wrong I am if it happens. I'll eat crow.

I know I did that to a couple of people two years ago that were 100% positive that either 1) Dallas would 100% for sure take Manziel if he by some miracle fell to them 2) that Manziel would never drop out of the top 10.
That was 2 for 2, so I'm due for humble pie.

yes it does

I'd rather move up to 1 and get the guy we want

Than sit at 4 and get the 2nd qb on our board

If your scouts are saying there is only one then it becomes a no brainer. You do what you have to do to get that guy and you're making that decision because your paid talent evaluators tell you this is your QB for the next decade. A few picks packaged for that kind of player is absolutely meaningless in the long run. Rodgers, Brady, Manning, Roethlisberger, Newton. They were all worth plenty of picks and none of those teams would have regretted it had they had to use them.
