I can’t argue against that strongly, I can only hope you’re wrong.

Same reason I didn’t want OBJ here on some deal that was tied to his numbers. That was begging for trouble and I truly thought that’s where this was headed.

I wanted Hopkins but I’ll choose to be happy with an apparent compromise.

Don’t forget we want to run the ball more and we already have Lamb and what should be a better version of Gallup.
I bet you could easily argue against the case that Cooks is just a glorified Tavon Austin. It was a silly comparison by that poster. Austin has essentially been a bust in the NFL. Cook's worst seasons are better than Austin's best season. For all his supposed speed, Austin averaged under 10 yards per reception. Fast doesn't not equal good. Austin can't run routes and can't get open. Cooks is a steady receiver who has a bit of speed. He will do better in Dallas than Austin has ever done in the NFL. The WR corp is better now than it was at this point a year ago and can get even better through the draft. Other positions still need improvement as well and this trade provides Dallas with some flexibility to address those other needs.

The vast majority of games he played here, Cooper didn't do anything.
Dallas started using him as a decoy. He just wasnt targeted. They started going to lamb more.
If they dont throw you the ball you cant catch it.
I dont remember him dropping a bunch of passes.
In one game they lost, they had cooper on the sideline on a 3rd and 4th down pass plays.

About cooks, dont know much about him, I think he played for new orleans for few years.
It is hard to compare wr, different teams, plays, coaching etc.

Cooper was targeted 104 times in 2021 (his last season in Dallas) and had less than 60 yards receiving in ten games.

Dallas never replaced Michael Irvin. Dez Bryant sure was fun to watch, though. Come to think of it, Dallas never replaced Dez Bryant either.

Michael Irvin is a hall of famer and if Lamb continues to be in the neighborhood of 1400 yards that is definitely good enough to replace Dez. Still young and talented enough to even go beyond that.

Irvin is irreplaceable. Nobody went up and got the ball like Dez. I’d argue he is irreplaceable. I think my point is instead of replacing just find the next. Cooper wasn’t it.

Here's what I know about Amari Cooper and CowboysZone.

If the day before he was traded I would have suggested trading him for the same meager compensation I wouldn't have gotten one person to agree with me.

But once the team does it they fall in line.

Pay them no mind.

A first round pick is meager?

I guess some fans would rather go with Tolbert and the half retired TY Hilton. It’s amazing how some people are never happy. The OP probably wanted to give OBJ $20 million or trade a second for DHop. Now he is trying to turn the thread into Dak sucks thread.  It just hit me that the guy is a big Zeke fan. That explains so much.

Please explain. And that is a real question as you obviously have some info others don’t. Please share!
He didn’t want to get a shot and some think that’s the reason Jerry unloaded him. Not the huge ridiculous contract or lack of production.

Amari Cooper 28 yrs old 20 million

vs

Gallup with a bum knee 11 million, shrimp jag overrated Cooks 20 million 30 yrs old and an extra draft pick lost for a 1yr rental.

Great job front office, great job and you still don't even have half of what Cooper bought to the table.
Oh good grief, Cooper was replaced last season with Gallup, Schultz, Armstrong, Vander Esch and Fowler. Lamb proved beyond shadow that Jerry was right in believing he was the #1 receiver. The end!

Cooper 28 years old, $20 million.

Cooks 29 years old (30 in September), $12 million.

Cooper's cost: 1st round pick in 2019.

Cook's cost: 5th round pick in 2023, 6th in 2024.

No offense, but this thread makes less sense than an umbrella made out of Kleenex.
Good riddance Cooper

Who said anything about replacing Cooper?

He had some baggage too. There are reasons he is no longer a Cowboy. Let's not forget that.
The reasons are all failures of management.

Last year we paid more for Gallup and Schultz.

This year we're paying more for Gallup and Cooks.

Total money over 2 years comparable, and net losing a 6th round pick.

And we'd just be *better* with Cooper. Two legitimate #1 WRs.

Dumping copper was one of the best moves they made. Cooper simply not worth 23 million for 3 more years. He’s a poor man’s #1. Lamb is better and Cooper was getting in the way of that. That 23 million is getting spent now on guys like Gilmore and cooks.

good riddance to Cooper. We got further without Cooper last year. FYI

The guy put up 865 yards and was set to make 23 million. That’s a very easy decision!

The love for Cooper on here is ridiculous.
They were all proven dead wrong. Lamb took care of that.

I think these are casual fans that don’t even care about salary cap and roster management.
