An ugly truth on the offensive line

After last week ProFootballFocus has Smith rated the #1 tackle in the NFL by a large margin(6.3 difference) over the #2 tackle(Terron Armstead).

Even if you don't like PFF, Smith is highly rated by those in the know around the league.

The OL was very underwhelming against the Eagles. I know the DL is their strength but with a guy like Cassell, he needs all the protection he can get. Too many times he was under pressure. And his pocket presence is very poor. Not a good combo.

Romo once had a bad game. I am surprised they didn't move him to safety after that performance.

Smith the all pro LT has 1 kinda bad game and now he needs to be moved?:lmao2:Good lord there are so many chicken little sports fans in this town.

no kidding, it seems to be developing into a tradition now. We see this type thread yearly.

Folks, Graham was moved around and went in and out of the game. Yes, Tyron was moving him on running downs when he was there.

But on pass plays, Graham was giving Tyron fits. Just couldn't get his hands on him. They were able to provide help for him with backs and tight ends, but the point stands.

Over-reactionary, perhaps, that's fair. But Tyron played right tackle in college, and I wonder if he'd be even better on that side.

This is hardly the first time that Tyron has struggled in pass protection against quick defensive ends.

You poll every GM in football and he's easily a Top 3-5 LT in this league, if not the top one. Your logic here is bizarre and silly. Jason Peters was once the best LT in football and guess what? He had bad games from time to time as well, especially against speed rushers. It happens.

Lost in the layers of stories last week was a very disturbing reality against Philadelphia.

And I think it played a big part in Dallas losing the game.

Brandon Graham flat owned Tyron Smith. I mean, he beat him virtually every single time. Every time there was a big play coming, they'd throw Graham over there, and he'd go around Tyron like a traffic cone.

For all his great attributes, Tyron has games like this against certain players. I sometimes wonder if he isn't the RIGHT TACKLE on this team, and that another left tackle should be brought in.

I disagree. he is a left tackle. he has played great against some of the great DEs and has OWNED them. perhaps the OL protection scheme needs revisited but you don't throw one of the best LTs in the game to the right because he has one or two bad games against a certain player. everyone has their "kryptonite". this would be a big knee jerk reaction.

We have many chronic issues on this team...T. Smith is not on my list of these issues.

That being said, the Oline is better at run blocking than pass blocking-same was true last year nut masked by Romo being mobile.

You're very close. The issue is the threat the Romo brings. He is mobile in that he can slide and spin and frustrate pass rushers. He also knows how to read defenses and can move his guys around to the right spot. Romo really does instantly make this team better. Is it enough to make the playoffs this year, highly unlikely but I don't know that I would bet against Romo. I think the best thing we can do is tell Romo he can't do it and then watch the miracle. :)

The defense lost that game. The offense carried its weight. Therefore, the offensive line didnt lose the game.

He's allowed an off-day. I think he's good on a line that overall, is good.

This, I believe, is the major problem with fans: The negative leaves a much stronger and lasting impression than the positive.

Smith had a couple of bad plays against the Eagles out of about 70, but all some remember are the couple of bad plays.

Smith's play against Philly is an easy example of this, but the same thing is done with most player.

Player A misses a tackle in the open field on a TD run so Player A sucks.

Player B drops a pass on what would have been a big play so Player B can't catch.

That doesn't mean there aren't some players who need to be replaced, just that our view of their play isn't always realistic.

Tyron is the best tackle in football. Two negative plays and all of a sudden he needs to be moved to the other side. Brilliant idea I'm sure Free will be a beast on the left side. :lmao2::facepalm:

I never wonder that.
