Well, then why did you respond to my post then turn this in to a big tit-for-tat because I registered my opinion? I don't think Spencer was worth the first-round pick we wasted on him.
Instead of valuing my opinion or letting my opinion stand, you challenged it. Now you say, I'm entitled to my opinion.
Well, duh. I knew that when we started this conversation.
And it doesn't get more complicated than this: If you get taken in the first round and you're a pass rusher, you're expected to do more than just breathe on the quarterback. You're expected to take him to the ground. Spencer registered only ONE double-digit sack season in his nine years. And put up subpar 5 sack, 6 sack, 4 sack years playing opposite the great DeMarcus Ware.
The man was average at best for the round we took him in. And anyone not drinking the Cowboy Kool-aid would find that unacceptable.
Stay thirsty, my friend.
Struggling to see what you're taking issue with, exactly. You gave your opinion that he was a wasted pick. I disagreed with you because the guy was an 8 year starter with more than a hundred games and a probowl visit under his belt, and by any reasonable definition of 'wasted' he was not a wasted pick. I can grant that you're entitled to an opinion without having to then let that wrong opinion stand. Of course I challenged it.
And again, he was drafted as a SOLB, which is not the same thing as a 'pass rusher.' He has strong-side run defense responsibilities--which has been his strong suit. And he has coverage responsibilities that Demarcus Ware did not have in most situations. Plus, he was capable of getting pressure, anyway. You're judging him by unrealistic criteria. And I don't even have to point out that 'average at best' and 'wasted pick' are not nearly the same things. He also was not 'average at best.' He was an above average player in Dallas.
