Any Chance Holmgren Would Be Interested In Coaching Here?

He got Matt Freaking Hasselbeck to a Superbowl -- and probably would've won it if not for the worst officiating I've ever seen -- but we're too good to take him here?

The problem with the "young guy" is that it has to be a person with cred in the league or Jerry will probably just run all over him. Maybe Gruden is the rare guy in the middle who's experienced enough to have had some success but is still young enough to have plenty of energy, but I think Holmgren's been a better coach.

And actually, his lack of success as a GM would probably work fine here because Jerry isn't dismantling the front office anyway. And I think our drafting lately has been mostly fine anyway. Not great, but not terrible either. There is talent on this team.

If we can't get a big name like him, I still think a Zimmer-Kubiak combo would be very good, though, and certainly better than Garrett.

And he's close to Jerry. Holmgren's been the obvious fit for Dallas for some time. He's not a perfect candidate by any means but about the best you can do with this owner.

we all know this is what we are getting.

zimmer, his son and whoever jerry wants to run the offense.

I imagine we have to wait and see who wins the superbowl first, jerry usually just preaches we are going to do whatever the previous superbowl winner did.

If seattle wins I think that means we are going to draft baseball players again to play quarterback.

Zimmer has been around a lot of offensive coaches in his day so I have no idea who he would want as coordinator. It doesn't matter anyway because he will just be happy to have a head coaching job like, wade and campo. No one else will be offering him a head coaching job.

I am apathetic right now, don't even want to go to the game sunday. If we hire zimmer I don't even think I will care at all.

The idea that mike zimmer is the best candidate, one of the most premiere rich sports organizations in the world can come up with to run the show is insanity.

Hard knocks here we come.

if the options are more garrett and kiffin, Mike zimmer or Holmgren...

well, its crazy to even have to decide.

Holmgren will offer what parcells offered, a chance to build a great staff because good young coaches want to work with him and learn because they know it will open doors in the future.
The man knows offense as well as anyone. His talent decisions have been poor, but his coaching of plays on the field has been excellent.

If we hired him as coach I would actually be excited, it would be very interesting to see who he would bring in to be on his staff. Whether or not he would call the offense.

My biggest gripe with Holmgren is the same as it is with all the "west Coast" coaches. They all are pretty lousy at finding defensive coordinators and getting good play from there defenses. I would be very worried about how this is handled here.
our luck we would end up with another ol jerry guy in jim bates or something.

Holmgren coaching romo, murray, Bryant, harris, Williams, escobar.....sign me up for that right now.

Absolutely agree, but it sure shouldn't be Holmgren.

He's failed at the role both times it was given to him.

I probably should have done a better job of articulating my thought above. I think Holmgren would be a horrible decision because of the possibility that his input would be considered. They really need to wipe that slate clean and bring in a fresh perspective.

In that case, I completely agree with you.

Yep, me too. Plus, maybe the biggest plus, he coached Tony's closest comparison in Favre and knows how to manage a QB like that. He'd come in with enough experience and league cred to say, "Look, this is the way we're doing it." No more of this shuffling of responsibility among
Garrett, Callahan, and Romo... Holmgren is the alpha dog type who would take charge and be decisive about our offensive direction.

On Zimmer, yes, this organization should go after the absolute best possible coach it can get. I'm not a University of Texas fan, but you have to admire how they're at least going after the best coach in the country. But we know how Jerry is. The difference is, I think Zimmer has a lot more backbone than you give him credit for. At least in the past, he's been very clear and direct, even blunt, in telling Jerry what he thinks about players. And he knows from his time with Parcells that you have to be that way. I honestly think if Jerry tried to run over him like he's done to Garrett, he'd tell Jerry to do anatomically impossible things to himself or even quit. He doesn't have the desire to please everyone and be loved like Garrett does... He's just a completely different personality.

I do understand how most fans would be totally underwhelmed and unimpressed with the hire, though.

Going from Garrett to Holmgren? Talk about an upgrade. I would love that hire.

So what does that have to do with Mike Holmgren the coach?
read the questions I was responding to. The poster said they would want him as a GM...not a head coach. Reagardless...I don't want him at all. That is just laziness. And just a way for Jerry to do what he has done for years. Look at the Eagles...first year offense, defense, head coach and coordinators...and very few players left over from old regime. Ballin! Hire a GM who knows football. Who knows the league. Have him identify a coach. Have the coach hire a staff. And Jerry...you GET OUT OF THE WAY!

one more thing to add on Holmgren.

It was him and his staff who oversaw the development of all those qbs in green bay everyone always talks about.....wolf drafted them but Holmgren and his staff brought them along.

seeing that we are probably 3 years away from needing a franchise qb, Holmgren has that feather in his cap also.

don't bring up weeden to me either, he didn't coach the guy they were just out of options and drafted him.

it would be nice to watch him coach romo and develop someone behind him.

My first reaction was always = no

But due to the fact that he got Hasselbeck there AND the officials being in the Stealers pockets. I agree with you.

1. Holmgren voiced his thoughts on refs and their affecting the outcome.
2. Officials later admitted to muffing up that Super Bowl

Now, with all that said. He is not my choice but NOTHING else has really come closes to working. Anytime we got close to anything we got DESTROYED... sans parcels / romo bobble. Game shouldn't have been that close. We could have stole one (super bowl) that year.

The last time Holmgren was on the sidelines as a head coach he led Seattle to a 4-12 record in 08. He hasn't coached in 5 years and is 65 years old not interested!

How about Saban, since his name is being discussed at Texas. His tenure with the Dolphins were right before the owner was planning on selling the franchise.

All things being equal, that would probably be my first choice. Give him another chance at the NFL level. He didn't look worse than Belichick in Cleveland.

But would Jerry respect him? I suppose he'd have to in order to even get him here.

Can't understand why Saban's name keeps coming up. His tenure with the Dolphins was a complete disaster he couldn't handle the media or the pressure of coaching in the NFL. He's a great college coach and college is where he'll stay.
