Any Chance Holmgren Would Be Interested In Coaching Here?

Unless we win out...........highly unlikely since we have the worst defense since the game was invented..........Garrett is going to get fired.

Now folks worry about another puppet getting hired that will be a yes man and Jerry will still be in control of everything and nothing will change. However, I was discussing this with a friend of mine and Holmgreen came up. At first I dismissed it, but the more I think about it, I really think it could work. For several reasons.

1. Holmgreen has been a head coach and a general manager before. So not only does he know Xs and Os, he has an eye for talent that fits his scheme.

2. He doesnt have to officially have the title, Jerry can keep the GM title and Holmgreen will not care if Jerry is out front taking credit, which you all know is the reason Jerry doesnt want to hire a GM to begin with, it will look like he was a failure.

3. Holmgreen knows how to handle a gunslinger type QB, he had Brett Favre all those years. He will know the right balance for Romo between taking too many risks or not taking enough. Face it, the problem now is Garrett has turned Romo into a bus driver and that is not his game.

When you think about it, sounds like it could be a good fit. We get a head coach that is not a puppet, we get a pseudo GM to advise Jerry without offically having the title so Jerry can still be the face of the franchise and take credit for eveything, and Romo could get back to being the type of QB we remember him being instead of this Alex Smith bus driver crap Garrett has turned him into.

What do yall think?

No old school coaches please, don't want heart attacks cause of how fast the NFL and passing happy it's become.

First off, we're in a race for the playoffs......

Second, why on earth would you want him? Get a guy with some new blood. No more has-beens. Shanahan should've taught people a lesson.

You couldn't have said it better

Is it the off-season yet?

At this point, we're just laying the foundation that the NFCE was easy to win this year, and that we have to fire the coach if we don't win it. We're not seriously debating hiring Mike Holmgren at this point in the offseason, yet.

I would advise you to just go and take a look at the job he did before he left Cleveland.

And then ask yourself if you would still want him.

give me a up and coming college coach or a innovative young nfl position offensive or defensive coordinator. Please let the coach have a backbone and show some fire. No clap it up after penalties, no clap it up after big mistakes. Give me a coach that shows some fire and that preaches tough football.

I think we need to zoom into 2013.

The Cowboys adjusted their offense because Romo is no longer a gun slinger, if you recall, Romo was instrumental in designing it. Romo was trying to be a gun slinger in the beginning of last season, until they adjusted to the shorter passing game he had more int's than TDs. The old Romo was on display last Monday night he was playing for the bears. Now that I got that out of the way, don't need another "old" guy coming here.

I'm sure he would but it would take some Parcells type concessions to get him.

No, but he decided who did and 'bought the groceries', like Trent Richardson and Brandon Weeden.

I would call his run there a colossal flop.

The grocery run here could use an upgrade, so I think they should consider someone else.

Absolutely agree, but it sure shouldn't be Holmgren.

He's failed at the role both times it was given to him.

Has there ever been a head coach to win superbowl with two different teams.

Didn't think so. So no I don't want a coach that has won a superbowl.

Agreed, he was a terrible GM.

He is, however, a very solid coach. When he has had good personnel men handle building the roster, ie Ron Wolf in Green Bay and Ted Thompson in Seattle (before he left for GB), Holmgren managed to get his teams to the Superbowl once every 6 years or so.

He got Matt Freaking Hasselbeck to a Superbowl -- and probably would've won it if not for the worst officiating I've ever seen -- but we're too good to take him here?

The problem with the "young guy" is that it has to be a person with cred in the league or Jerry will probably just run all over him. Maybe Gruden is the rare guy in the middle who's experienced enough to have had some success but is still young enough to have plenty of energy, but I think Holmgren's been a better coach.

And actually, his lack of success as a GM would probably work fine here because Jerry isn't dismantling the front office anyway. And I think our drafting lately has been mostly fine anyway. Not great, but not terrible either. There is talent on this team.

If we can't get a big name like him, I still think a Zimmer-Kubiak combo would be very good, though, and certainly better than Garrett.
