maybe range of motion of your jaw, allowing players to communicate better?

I'm just playing devil's advocate. I didn't watch much of last night's game.

I've got an idea for custom underwear that will align the groin and make players smarter.
Let me know when you come up with some that make you irresistable to women.;)

Its hard to believe but some athletes swear by it. Especially in Basketball.

Point taken. Apologies offered.

Once again, my apologies Temo. The wife, seemingly, isn't thrilled with the side of the bed I woke up on today either.:

I didn't even know I was insulted. Brainchild seems like more of a complement.

There's a video on one of the links where a guy supposedly ups his pullups by 3 or 4 just by wearing the mouthpiece.

I looked at the website as well... it wasn't, just "a guy" -- it was Michael Redd. Otherwise I'd be a bit skeptical.

I have jaw alignment problems and am now seriously contemplating getting one of these things after looking through that website.

It's funny, there's a video of Shaq on there where he describes a test the dentist who came up with this gave him. He basically asked him to touch his toes to test his flexibility and range of motion. Then he asked him to bite down on a pen or pencil and try it again, and Shaq's range of motion increased immediately. I tried it myself, and I'll be darned if it didn't work.

Try it yourself and you might be surprised.

I'm calling BS.

Next thing you know there will be some guy coming out with a jock strap that properly aligns your junk and gives you the ability to lift an extra 30-40 lbs.

But, this is the real deal!!! I bought a three pack for $89.99, plus shipping and handling. They work, I tell you, they work - although they do look weird with the tassels, and the pink messes up the other clothes.

But that says nothing about the mouthpiece. I'd be willing to bet that anyone's 2nd attempt at stretching is better than the 1st no matter if it was a pencil, a mouthpiece, a doughnut or nothing at all.

I just can't buy into it and if I were you, I'd do a lot more research before dropping a couple grand on a piece of plastic.

I have a large object which when inserted into unspecified orifices will make you more attractive.

Nope, I refuse to look into it any more. I'm just going to spend spend spend! :D

I'm going to ask my dentist about it and see what he's heard. I honestly could care less about the flexibility, but I do care about the jaw and head pain I have. If this could somehow get my jaw into alignment and reduce that, it'd be worth a couple thousand bucks.

As far as the pen trick works, I didn't try it just twice, I tried it multiple times with and without to make sure I wasn't imagining things. I was more flexible when I was biting on the pen. It was weird.

Yup. I just tried it backwards. I did the 1st attempt with a pen in my mouth and the 2nd attempt without a pen.

How about that? The 2nd attempt I stretched further.

Theoretically, this makes sense. If you were able to increase the efficiency of O2 intake, you would increase the amount of oxygen that reaches the heart and muscles. The guy in the video mentions that this mouth guard increases O2 intake leading to decreased aerobic failure (lack of O2 reaching the heart), allowing one to reach muscular failure (or getting closer to it).

I cannot comment whether this mouth guard actually accomplishes this, but there is some scientific merit to the idea.

I'm thinking it's unlikely that you could increase the amount oxygen intake such that it would make an appreciable difference in physical ability. Otherwise, players would just help themselves to an oxygen tank on the sidelines throughout the game.

This is quack stuff here. There's no "theoretical sense" being made here.

How many here have tried a "breathe-right" strip?

How many believe it's effects?

How many here thought that was ridiculous when they first saw it?

How much "theoretical sense" did that make?

I've always had issues with general spine alignment, lower back and neck pain. I also have issues with my jaw being too stiff to properly enunciate words after I speak for a long time or after I play basketball. I also get headaches from my neck pain just like you do.

There's no doubt in my mind that there's a link; how it works and if this product is indeed effective is another issue. It wouldn't be bad to look into it. And general flexibility or alignment does definitely increase athletic ability. There are days when I can take one step and dunk a ball with 2 hands without much effort because my whole body feels lose. There are days when I labor to do it putting in all my effort and taking a few more approach steps.

Anyone who has general knowledge or helpful links about spine alignment in general?

Either you don't understand the theory, or you are not sure what "theoretical sense" means. And you are using faulty logic to express your point.

If the theory is something other than what you wrote, maybe.

If it's what you wrote, no, it doesnt make "theoretical sense."

I believe I solved your problem. You already have perfect jaw alignment. The pen takes it out of alignment.:D

I think that's what makes Gruden fun for all fans, though. I'm so sick of the doom and gloom guys like Joe Buck. That ******* gets on one idea and trashes an entire team on that premise for 3 1/2 hours straight.

On the flip-side, Gruden has something good to say about EVERY team. That's encouraging to fans. To know that a guy who has won a championship and had success in the play-offs sees redeeming qualities about your ball club is a plus, IMHO.

He may be over the top at times, but I'll take Gruden over Buck any day of the year.

Agreed, Gruden is one of my favorite guys to listen to.
