I think he will not only be on the team he will turn some heads.

While the fan in me hopes you're right, I don't see it.

I see him getting injured again and the team finally giving up on him.

I, too, will be surprised if Stanback is still around. If...he could ever stay healthy, perhaps he could contribute for some team.

If you listen to one part of the interview, he stated that he would like to play baseball while he's still young if his NFL career doesn't pan out. Doesn't sound very confident in his football abilities.

If he gets injured again I am sure they will give up on him. I happen to know he's gotten some pretty good instructions on being a WR and has improved. Plus he is still dangerous as a KR and his speed is unreal

No question about his speed. I still remember him flying up next to Felix Jones on a kickoff return for TD last year, the guy has some serious jets.

I don't question his physical talent, but more his ability to stay healthy. It looks to me like his body is simply not built to withstand the rigors of the NFL.

Add that to the injury histories of Austin, Hurd, and Roy Williams and it makes for a scary cocktail.

His potential is through the roof. I don't see us dropping him unless there is another injury.

A poor man's Stepfret Williams.

You are insulting Stepfret Williams. At least he had 31 receptions in his first two years. He's more in the Ed Hervey category.

I still don't think he's sold on being a WR either. I don't think he's ever wholeheartedly embraced the position change like Crayton did.

Even as recently as this offseason, I have read things about him wishing he'd still get an opportunity at QB. I don't think he's had nearly enough time to absorb the position change since he's been so fragile.

3 catches in 2 years.

How long does somebody get by on potential?

Given the current environment at wide receiver and the number of question marks, I think the team needs more reliability and less potential.

The thing that scares me is that even if he does make the opening day roster, how long will it be before he's hurt again?

And by that point, there won't be a lot of options left.

I just don't understand some of you. Sure, he's under the microscope. But until he fails again by being seriously injured, he will be given every opportunity to make the team. At this point in time, he needs to be on the practice field AMAP. A couple of days here and there likely won't derail him and no one here can say when enough is enough. But at some point if he continues to get injured they will either cut him or put him on IR.

I think many of you fail to understand how elite his speed and physical talents are. He only needs to learn to be a WR. And in this league it takes most drafted true WRs 2-4 years to begin to seriously contribute. Austin is in the same boat. And even Austin doesn't have his physical talents.

It would be lunacy to give up on this kid unless he continues to be repeatedly injured. Even then I'd put him on IR before releasing him and give him another year.

Name one guy on this team with his size, speed and physical talents.

I have repeatedly said an injury will probably doom him. I am not sure how many times I need to repeat it.

I don't think he will be injured in 2009. Call me naive I guess.

I agree with you but I wonder if Ogletree doesn't give Johnson a run for his money for that 5th spot.

I think one goes to practice squad.

I think many here have just jumped on the negative bandwagon and aren't giving this enough serious thought. Of course we could be wrong but I just don't think so.

You don't need to repeat it.

Or get testy either.

I'm not 'calling' you anything.

If he gets injured again, it doesn't matter how talented he is. He can't contribute and that's not worth the time and energy. He has to stay healthy AND he has to develop. So far, he's done neither.

Assuming he's injured again, I am sure there are plenty of college players with his size, speed and physical talent we could get.

He's lost two full seasons already and another one would be time to cut the cord.

The best case scenario for him coming into the league was to be like Joshua Cribbs, learn the position while playing ST and then develop. He hasn't even been able to do that.

I don't care how immensely talented he is. If he can't stay healthy, it is just words. It is not like he's the only strong and fast player we could acquire.

I would not cut him now. You give him one last chance. But if he got hurt again, it would be over.

He has to start contributing (and developing) sometime. You can't keep stashing him in IR year after year.

I remember a guy named Randal Williams a few years ago, he had amazing speed too.

He bounced around the league a few years because of that speed but never developed into a receiver.

I think it's one thing to keep a guy like Stanback around when you've got Terrell Owens, Terry Glenn, and Roy Williams as starters as the team had the past few years. Now that Owens is gobne, and given the other guys' history of injury, I think the team no longer has that luxury. They need more solid production.

I've had 3 hours of sleep for 2 days straight and you've brought up injuries every response despite my acknowledging them. If you can do better on the testy stuff then I tip my hat to you. You're a better man than I am Gunga Din.

Why take it out on me?

I'm just trying to have a conversation.

RW, Austin, Crayton, Stanback and maybe even Hurd have made this team assuming there aren't repeated injuries or someone ends up on IR. Another WR will have to force the issue and either get one released or create another roster spot.

I don't see those five getting released if healthy. Another WR will really have to show something. This is a SB year as far as the FO and coaches are concerned.
