Anyone watch Joey Bosa play?

When does Bosa start making plays...I'm 4 in and saw him beat a TE for a pressure and a missed blocking assignment that gave him a clear shot at the QB. Honest Q, 4th? EDIT: that was a nice inside move @ 4:13.

You GOT ME Fuzzy...nice one tbh. Shoot stay the hell away from Bosa; he had no impact in that game to an unranked opponent who left him 1 on 1 ALOT. Yet alone top 4? Yikes. You made your point, Ramsey would be the choice but I was already "there" on that choice. :D

This is not how they rank players, they score them, they don't say hey no DE's in this draft so we need to rank Bosa higher.

He is a consensus top 5 pick.

You may disagree and have your own opinion, but there is not much disagreement from the experts that he is a top 5 player.

My bad, I meant reach as in context with us needing him bc we have 2 DEs just drafted awaiting suspension. He's a great LE but has the same rumors as one of our own knuckle heads;)
 
Draft day isn't far away and regardless of what we think as fans, the organization has the right to make their choices.

Let's just hope they've done their homework. Nothing is ever guaranteed in the draft but knowledge is usually helpful.

I'd love to see the organization distinguish themselves in grand style, move down and make some extra bigtime picks.

I watched half of it. I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic. Maryland didn't try and run to his side one time except for a few inside counters when he was on the edge. They actively avoided him in the run game.

I also saw him with 3 pressures in the half of it I watched, including one where he was double teamed. He put the tackle on skates a few times, split the gap from the tackle position very well, and it's obvious he's got some good hands.

Oh like a Deion type of impact on the DL against MD:D The 3 pressures came against a TE, a broken down screen it seemed but if not good inside move/first step, and the one where he knocked the QB down even while double teamed. Against an unranked opponent's RT. They still gashed OSU in the run game and saw plays he picked the wrong player in the option scenario. I watched the whole 11 minutes and thought I was being catfished or something tbh. Great player sure, but a blue chipper? Didn't see that at all.

For example the Michaigan State game where he had 4 tackles and no sacks. I would rather see the FO pull the trigger on Zeke and get some DE help later in the draft.

We was being double and triple teamed, that open's up lane's for other players....You might want to go back a watch again...

You answer your own question. Early Maryland is moving the pocket all over the place with planned rollouts. It wasn't a missed assignment. It was one of those rollouts that he flanked. He gets consistent pressure making the Maryland QB step up, Bosa manages to get his hands on him a couple of times before he gets a sack. He wraps up the QB with Perry for another sack.

4th quarter when the Terps are down by two scores, he is getting off blocks and upfield when pressure makes the QB start throwing it up for grabs twice.

I'm not going to chart the whole thing but he had a sack and a half, two more QB hits, and at least 4 other pressures by my count. It's not like I cherry-picked a good game. I could've just put on his 29 minute highlight reel.

Regardless, how is that player similar to Greg Ellis? That was the point I was getting at.

The reason why I don't like the Greg Ellis comparison is because it appeals to Cowboys emotion as opposed to the players themselves. Ellis retired 7 years ago. What people remember about him isn't his game as much as it was picking him over Moss.

Ellis was the third DE drafted that year after Wadsworth and Wistrom. Other than them playing the same position and having prototypical size all I see is a lot of hand waving.

Oh the Ellis thing, I explained in a follow up post that it was probably a wrong comparison as I was just using him as an example of going for need over "BPA". Hey, if we pick Bosa and he is lights out, serve me up my crow but would support him day 1 regardless but would come down on him MUCH harder than Gregory with this high of a selection; no pun intended. You're right that I picked Ellis bc of recent examples that Cowboy fans would use regarding the exaggerated examples of picking limited potential when comparing to Bosa when Chris Long and others would be more suitable.

As soon as/if we draft Bosa, I would turn into comparing him to Watt to local skins fans:D;)

I have no idea what to think about Bosa. On one hand, he has three years of production and excellent tape (where he literally destroys ppl), on the other hand, he seems like a bigtime spoiled frat boy dbag.

Of course, Marinelli could help him reach his potential. His explosion is underrated, very athletic in that regard. But I worry about this kind of guy getting money and status. I fear that we'd be drafting a successor to Gregory and Hardy

My thing with drafting at 4: I want to trust that guy most of all. I don't feel like Bosa is a trustworthy young man

Bosa is the top player at his position.

Name me the better 4-3 DE prospects to come out in the last decade.

Miller and Mack are 250 lbs OLB types. Watt was passed out of the top 10 using eerily similar groupthink about his potential and ability to rush the passer.

Clowney, Ansah, and Long are the only comparably sized blue chip 4-3 DE to come out in the last decade. Most years don't have guys with size that talented. IOW, he fits in with the best of recent history.

He is in no way a reach.

Need in the context that we wouldn't need him if we hadn't drafted 2 DEs facing suspension. He's a great player but think if we had the OLB type of prospects like Miller and Mack, you wouldn't even see Bosa @ consideration for DAL @ 4. Has Mario Williams been in the league over 10 years? Feeling old now. Clowney is an OLB/RE and Long was limited it turned out? Looks like LEs aren't treasured the same way as 3 techs and REs over the last decade in the 4-3. That's what I see from that trend, not that there haven't been good LEs coming out; just limited in potential whether due to body size, pass rush ability, etc. Their primary job is run support (the edge) and then rushing the passer. That's why you see less and less going this high in the draft.

After he was suspended for the Buckeyes' season opener against Virginia Tech for an unknown "transgression" (ESPN reported at the time that it was either for marijuana or an academic violation), Bosa made the decision "after hundreds of conversations" with Ohio State head coach Urban Myer and his family to live by himself and spend what little free time he had at home.

His sparse apartment was furnished with little more than an Xbox, DVDs, football gear, clothing, cooking utensils and the minimum amount of furniture. But he was comfortable, and there was no pressing temptation for him to join the fray. For the entirety of last spring and summer, Bosa spent much of his time alone, cooking Italian dinners from recipes his mother had taught him and playing video games to pass the time. He had never really enjoyed the hassle of going out in Columbus anyway. Heads turning, girls clamoring, fans chatting—none of it has ever truly appealed to him.

Bosa and running back Ezekiel Elliott had previously lived as roommates since their freshman year, but Bosa told Nisen that he didn't mind the comparatively isolated lifestyle.

"I never really loved being in the spotlight. I was never that kind of person. I pretty much like sitting in my apartment, being in a dark cave for hours," Bosa told Neisen. "If I spend the whole day there, I have no problem with that. I've got a tight circle, and I'm not really letting a lot of people into my life."

So if we had a pass rusher, we wouldn't need a pass rusher?

Bosa helps more than those types do was the point I was trying to make. There is a reason why DE in the 3-4 typically weigh over 300. We all watched Gregory struggle last season at 250.
 
The decision would be a lot easier if Bosa had a pristine reputation. Given the recent failures with character risks, it's hard to get on board with any sort of risk at all when there are highly regarded players who don't have such uncertainty.

If Dallas takes Bosa they better be absolutely sure he's not at risk for a future suspension and that he's moved beyond the things that give teams a little concern. More sure than they are that his ability is worth the pick, I would say.
 
I don't see any way to slice it where Bosa's not a hell of a player. He's not exactly the type of player I'd have hoped would be there for us at #4, but he's close. And pretty much universally considered a top-5 prospect.

I think he's the most likely pick there for us after Ramsey now (only because I suspect SD will be able to move the #3 for Tunsil). We don't need to overcomplicated things. The QBs are gone. Take the best defender on your board, and the next best defender left at #34 and then worry about finding guys who can play in the later rounds. If Bosa's that guy, we're lucky to have him at a position of relative need.
