I would like to add him but I doubt he would come here cause of lack of opportunities. Just depends on how much he wants to win, he could go to a real loser and get paid.

Would cut Butler yesterday for him though. I'm always in favor of increasing our talent cause no matter how much you think you have, you can always have more plus protects you from injuries.

It seems unlikely:
He will get a decent offer somewhere. His base with the Chiefs was 9.75M.
He is 29 years old.
The Cowboys already paid TWill enough to say that they expect him to be a starter.

On the flip side, he's probably better than Dez as a #1 WR. They could dump Dez with his 13M base salary and upgrade for cheaper. Maclin has had to play with far inferior QBs.

Maclin past 3 years:
Rec ..... Yards
44 ….. 536
87 ….. 1,088
85 ….. 1,318

Dez past 3 years:
Rec ..... Yards
50 ….. 796
31 ….. 401
88 ….. 1,320
No way they dump Dez now. A lackluster or injury-riddled season and they may consider it. But, they would probably prefer to replace his role in the draft versus bringing in
It's that very selfless nature of TWill which could be capitalized on. He has security in a contract in his favor to prevent a coup of ousting him.. And surely as this team moves toward post-season success, his desire to hoist a trophy will outweigh his personal goals for short term.

I am torn about this because of not knowing enough about Maclin, as stated above in my first post.

But...this has an aura of a Charles Haley move. If you review, Haley was not gangbusters as far as sacks his first season here. But he inspired a defensive line to excel. Perhaps if this guy brings a skill set of close to a #1 receiver, hem might light a fire under Dez, and TWill, along with Switzer stoking that fire under Beas.

I think the comment in the article about Witten aging is a very good point. We all do not want to see him as a shell of his former self. And I am not suggesting that at this time. But a threat of a deep route opens up and makes easier Witten's lot, as well as the rest of the receiver corps.

I may be talking myself into this, jday. Home grown is great, but an offense that has so many weapons the defense is under constant pressure equates to things like NFC Championships and that elusive Lombardi.
He could be the next Haley. But he would have to have the right character to make it work here. Like you, I don't know him. But considering his age, this could be his last contract and the Cowboys wouldn't have the snaps to justify the contract he is likely looking for. A combination of TWill and Butler used in the 10 personnel opposite Dez, with Beaz and Switzer in the slot is about as Dak-friendly as they can get. Maclin would be overkill on the heels of finally having some breathing room in the cap. It makes more sense to keep that room to handle contract escalations coming up next year. Just my opinion, though.

Who really knows, but I'm thinking he probably won't take the best offer from a loser, but he also won't take just any offer from a winner.

I'd say we have a shot, and I'd say that it's not TWill who has to be concerned, but, as you've suggested, it's Butler... and how often do we hear Red say essentially what you just said... "I'm always in favor of increasing our talent."

Just a matter of the price tag.

Yeah I would definitely be in favor of it, even Beasley is 28, not young for a WR. You just never know, no reason to not look into talent.....injuries can happen.

Can't say I agree with your flipside, but if Dez got hurt, I would feel more comfortable with Maclin as our #1 WR over anyone else on our roster.

He'll get a big offer. 8-10 million per

Sounds high to me. Very. There simply isn't enough cap space for most teams who are crying for WRs, and thus isn't enough competition to drive the price that high, imo, particularly for a guy with some injury history.

Not to be disregarded, too, is how many years and how much guaranteed a prospective team would offer. His age makes that even more of a factor than it would have been when he originally signed with KC.

I like Maclin, but we're run first offense. Let the rookies play.

That assumes he'd be replacing a rookie. He wouldn't.

At the right price, he would take Butler's roster spot, imo, and most of us would be pretty hyped about that turn of events.

All things being equal and w-out context, I would take Maclin over T-Will. That said, at this point in the offseason it doesn't make sense.

Go look at Buffalo's & Baltimore's WR depth chart, no way he ends up a Cowboy. One of those 2 will pony up the money for him

Still, Cowboys with the running game, Maclin knows he'll get limited touches. He would only come if he thinks Cowboys has a chance to sniff a ring.
