Are the Eagles WR Corps in better Shape without TO

Jabbar Gaffney was cut by the Texans. The. Texans. He is average.

Reggie Brown looks like a stud in the making.

Todd Pinkston is bad because he produces just enough to disappoint. He is your WR corps version of Correll Buckhalter. I mean, why is Buckhalter still an Eagle?

Greg Lewis is a project that is behind schedule. Make or break year for him, really.

LJ Smith gets a lot of publicity but I am not impressed thus far. I expect Andy Reid will move him around now more than ever.

So it looks like an average NFL secondary could rotate coverage or put their best cover guy on Brown and play straight up against the other guys. Good secondaries can play these guys straight up and really frustrate the Eagles.

Nickel coverage packages might stuff these guys.

To me, it looks like Brian Westbrook will yet again become the best option in the passing game, and Reid will be mixing things up big time. On a positive note for you, PT, McNabb has something to prove this year and will go back to spreading the ball around like he did pre-TO.

IMO, though, Andy Reid has to lean on his offensive line and open up the running game in order to give the passing game a chance. Those are the guys Philly keeps drafting with high picks, and it's time to put those guys to work.

That's the thing I fear most from Philly, a strong OL dictating tempo and blocking for a balanced offense. That makes McNabb much more dangerous and gives the Pinkstons and Lewis'es a better chance to make plays.

Sorry for the delay, had to commUte from my job; approximately 30 miles one-way.

McNabb doesn't have TO to deal with this year ...he's feeling as though a 100 pounds have been lifted off of his neck ...and that includes his sports hernia. THe Leader of the team carries a contagious optimism that I believe will carry over into the Eagles offense.

I've listened to all of the insults, and sarcasms and underestimates you seem to have against the Eagles widereceivers. Most of you seem to have the belief that a gregat wide receiver is great right from the start. WhiLe some develop faster than others, maturate at a slower pace. I believe such is the case with Reggie Brown, and Gaffney. Our receiver corp may not have the big name WR, but collectively they can and will be just as effective.

For example ...Pinkston is a long ball receiver, His limitations are going across the middle and the short quick pass. While Reggie Brown has Only one year under His Belt, he shows a great deal of promise to become a play-maker. Gaffney played for a Houston team that had a rookie QB and a mediocre team ...yet, Gaffney still got significant touches/yardage to distinguish himself. Now he has an elite Qb throwing to him, with a championship caliber team to support His efforts. I believe either Gaffney or Brown will blowup large in 2006. Hence, collectively they provide a threat comparable to a good receiver corp.

Eagle reveicers are much better Off without TO to demand touches with expectations of boosting his yardage. Remember ...TO has been out of the playing field for the better part of 2005. He"s hungry and eager to get those stats back Up commensurate with what they should be. That may make his Play too anxious, too demanding and unrealistic expectations. Remember, football is a team sport ...TO may not fit as well as you believe He will. But from an Eagles perspective, our receivers will get the job done better than you think!

That said, I'm prepared to field your concerns.

Losing a wide reciever of TO caliber would make any team WR corps less dangerous. Unless they have some miracle rookie or aplayer like Randy Moss to replace them.

As i see it the eagles have neither.

Look, this isn't simply "yet another" TO thread. Why? Because this will explain more about how this Eagle fan feels toward what we know about the 2004/5 TO than what we're guessing about toward the upcoming 2006 TO.

The former Eagles TO was a demon in disguise. Eagles Management fault versus TOs fault, makes no difference. TO came out of character by saying and doing things that he believed would get him bigger dollars -- he won; or has he?

The New Cowboys TO is an angel in disguise. Cowboys Management has given TO all he wanted plus more (in the form of a longer contract...
3 years - 25 million). Uncertain about the contract parameters, but I believe it's long term. If TO has truly given up his pitch-fork for a harp, we'll know fairly soon.

I feel as though an albatross has been lifted off of the Eagles sail. I believe it's more productive to have a mediocre wide-receiver corp functioning with the team in harmony, than to have a wr level that dysfunctional to the operation of the team. Brown, Pinkston, Gaffney, and Bloom require more to handle than you think -- especially with an unknown Eagles running game revived. Remember the days of Duce Staley?

Listen, it's no secret that TO has made some enemies ...and not just within the Eagle players. There's a zen philosophy (and no I'm not Muslim, Buddahist, Bahai, Sikh, or any or that ...not that there's anything wrong with it), that suggests bad Karma begets bad Karma ...or otherwise known as what goes around -- comes around!

This is not only going to be one of the most interesting seasons for the Cowboys, and the Eagles ...but for the entire NFL, the press, and the fans. Our questions about TO; the demon or angel, will finally be answered.

TO will get touches, he will get his yards, and he will ultimately score touchdowns ...but just as sure as I am about that, I can tell you that the Eagles plan to minimize that effort ...with extreme predjudice.

I'm waiting for your responses ...I may/may not offer comment to the hounds...but I definitely will not get involved in a pissing contest over conjecture and opinionted comments.

Well, my concern is that you drive safely to and from work...will you do that for us? I know Arizona like the back of my hand, and I know how hard migrant workers have it...so be safe, picking them fields of Cactus...and looking for rattlers!

Anyway, the comment about McFlabb having 100 lbs. taken off his shoulders? Well, T.O. did not make him eat all that McChunky stuff, did he?

OK...this is the thing...with me! OK?

Andy Ried is the coach of the Eagles! That right there tells me already what I need to know! See, being from Utah, I know all about him...and his methods.

He's a great coach! Cannot deny that...and whoever he has on his team, he will get the best out of them...one way or the other! That's been proven...

Scheme, my man...is the name of the game...and the Eagles will be in the thick of the NFC...!

So, if you want my REAL opinion about the Eagles...it's Andy Reid! He is the one that scares me the most about your team...

Drive safe, OK!

I see your point, but I also don't think you can call Philly's WR core mediocre. I honestly cannot think of an NFL team that is in worse shape at WR than the Eagles.

The birds have one guy that is OK and nothing more - Pinkston. Brown MIGHT be good- too early to tell. Gaffney- up and down. MEDIOCRE is probably about right - at the moment. It could go up or down- but not by too much.

If the WCO is run well, it doesn't require a big stat wide receiver to be successful. Seattle last year didn't have one receiver over 1000 yards, yet had the best offense in the NFC.

I'm not convinced that the Eagles are that much worse of an offense without TO. In fact, if they actually run the ball this year, they could be very problematic.

No the Eagles WR corp is not better without T.O. Maybe team chemistry is. But the talent level has fallen without him. I don't think any of the WR's there, Brown, Pinkston, Gaffney or Bloom are the game-breaker that T.O. is. Brown could be a playmaker in time. Pinkston is the best WR right now. He is solid.

I've read it twice, and I still can't pinpoint an objective, or any real form of a question in there anywhere, other than the title, which seems completely unrelated the the OP.

Plus, now I hate myself.

Sorry, but a bunch of white guys from Ohio playing faux reggae doesnt make a lot of sense to anyone.

To be fair the Seahawks had the 6th rated passing offense in the NFC.

SaT,

That's the kind of perspective that I was waiting for ..."fair!" Wide Receivers are important entities, but they do not necessarily dictate the outcome of games. Here's a tip for you SaT watch out for the renewed Eagles running attack (we're packing depth this year).;)

...and what he threatens a defence with has to be picked up by someone else.

Eventually at some point in time the Eagles need to threaten the opposing defence with something.

Do they have the type of RBs and line to play a power running game and push the ball 30-35 times a game?

Do they have a WR corp who can beat you repeatedly in man coverage?

Is McNabb able to rise above last year and carry this team all by himself when no one else is up to challenge expereience or talent wise?

Right now I have to answer no to all three questions. T.O. was the proverbial two ton elephant on the offence.

It doesn't mean that the Eagles are a bad team, I just think you came closer backwards to the pack and this division isn't your to own anymore.

Seattle didn't have superstars at WR, but these guys were still light years ahead of anybody the Eagles had at WR. Both Engram and Jurevicius had more receptions and more yards than anybody the Eagles have. Jurevicius had more touchdowns last year than all of the wide receivers currently on the Eagles roster combined. Engram had over 18 more receptions and over 200 more receiving yards last season than any current wide receiver on the Eagles roster. Clearly, the Seahawks receivers a by far superior to the Eagles receivers.

This kind of WR corps may be OK for a team with a QB like Brady or a running game like the Falcons, but Philadelphia's offense is built around passing the ball.

McNabb is special, but he's no Brady. Philadelphia is going nowhere unless Andy Reid eases the throttle on the WCO crap and gets his OL playing some smash-mouth NFC East football.

Two points about "Green Kool-Aid's" Dream scenario:

1) The Eagle have 0 receivers who scare opposing defenses. There's not one receiver on their roster that opposing coordinators need to game-plan for. Brown may develop into a solid receiver, but I'd hate to be betting my season on it.

2) While the Eagles' offensive line might be able to establish a power-running game, they don't have the running back for it. Westbrook is great at what he does. But power running sure ain't it. And Reid also doesn't seem to have the patience for a decent run/pass ratio.

Pinkston is a #3 WR for most teams. Brown might be on the way to becoming a second level WR. Greg Lewis is marginal, being generous. LJ Smith isn't as good as his hype was last year. Gaffney is someone who might be something, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Basically, if everything goes the Iggles way they could be just missing TO as opposed to having one of the two or three worst WR corps in the NFL. Brown is the only WR who would have a legit shot of starting on another team, and that would be as a #2.

No the WR corps isn't better off without TO. Team chemistry might improve. The team might end up being better without him, but the WR Corps won't be.
