Are we past the "pinch-me if this is real" phase on Miles?

Miles Austin has been one of my "pet cats" as many say for a while now.

I am quite sure unless he becomes slow, gets the dropsies, loses his strength, and stops running good routes that he will be just fine.

How good who knows?

My only fear (not for him, but for this board) is that his production has been so off the charts good that it is completely unsustainable, and of course that means it is only a matter of time until the "idiots" turn on him.

i think i'm pretty close to you here. he puts up back to back phenominal games and i'm willing to bet when he can't sustain this (and who could?) many of these "idiots" will then want trade bait.

the IGS is one of the biggest pains in the arse to common sense i've ever met. (IGS = instant gratification society, the group that has somehow long the ability to wait things out over time and it all must be decided NOW).

austin has done very well the last 2 games. but these are *extreme* examples of success and while pretty and pumps us all up, he'll have his bad days too.

like i said before, romo came out in a dream. hikes over his head turned into long runs for a gain. he could simply do no wrong.

now he can't do anything right.

if you live by the minute changes along the way to determine ultimate value, you're just a fool.

Ridiculous straw man argument. You're gonna have to start naming these "alleged" fans who want Tony cut or benched. Something tells me I can count them on one hand, which means you're being needlessly hysterical.

but we tend to gravitate to the extremes and focus there in many of our conversations. while i'm sure it's a small amount of people who want romo gone, they're still there and we still gotta listen to them whine in their own idiotic way.

after romo's 2nd bad game this year, i came into to work the next day after the game and i heard 2-3 different "water cooler talks" about how romo is in over his head, he sucks, remember he wasn't drafted so sooner or later he'll have to be replaced...

sure those are all idiotic statements usually made by people who don't understand the game to the depth some fans in here do.

or some bloggers WISH they did.

so while i'm not going to make you a list there was talk of benching romo, even if only by idiots (which would make sense to me) the talk is still there. it's extreme. and it will attract the conversations.

Yakuza Rich is one particularly prominent poster that thinks we should be looking to replace Romo and says that he's "officially given up" on him or something like that. There was a entire thread about starting Jon Kitna.

Oddly enough, they do exist.

Nah.. Miles is sound. I KNEW he would be effective BEFORE the chiefs game. Now I didn't quite predict 4 TD's and over 400 yards but I knew he had the speed and hands and route discipline. He just needed an opportunity. If you pay attention to his flashes over the past couple years.. he had it. He's just matured and preparation met opportunity. I'm sold ... defense will try to take him away but it will be very difficult with Witten roaming the middle, our running game and solid contributors spread through our offense.

Thinking about the future at the QB position is hardly the same as calling for Tony to be "cut" or immediately benched. My "one hand" jibe is still looking pretty good.

I never opened that thread because it was transparently silly. I'm sure it was one lone poster against a million, anyway.

Correct, there are annoying extremists on both sides, except that the pro-Tony cultists (i.e. those who wouldn't trade him for any QB in the league) far outnumber his critics, which means they don't have much cause for complaint. If the cynics have to tolerate the booster club, then quid pro quo.

I believe in his talent. My only questions is his ability to stay healthy.

LOL is Miles for real? How do we know.

ANY team puts their #1 on Miles? He is for real. period.

You will get your wish very soon then. If I were a defensive coordinator, I'd put my best corner on Austin. I'd make Dallas' underachieving coachable WR beat me.

Not a straw man argument. I have to disagree with you here. I did not say most fans on this board, I did not say a lot of fans on this board but I did say some some "idiot" fans on this board.

I can name names, but I am not going to. I am quite sure you know there are people on this board who want Romo gone and have been wanting him gone for quite some time.

So no, I am not being hysterical. What I said was factual.

I never opened it myself. But the fact that it attracted so many posts makes me think the "one hand" comment isn't all that accurate.

And even if there are only a few, those few can be abnormally vocal. Listening to Dallas talk radio call-ins, I wonder if there are just that many idiots in Dallas or if they're just screening the normal callers.

Pretty weak backpedaling, but not surprising. If it's five posters or less, then it's really not worth your time or bellyaching, right? Right.

Fine. I'll track it down and try to count all the people who supported his Kitna campaign. My guess is they meet in a phone booth.

Update:

Only two people explicitly agreed with the OP. Even McCordsville said wait 'til the season is over before doing something rash.

Eh...I counted three others in the thread that were at least somewhat supportive.

Looks like we highlighted different (but equally daft) Kitna threads. The fact remains that Kitna's proponents are (thankfully) few and far between, and therefore shouldn't merit this much attention and whining from the Tony cultists.

True some don't like either and would rather get someone else altogether. It is not an accident that here and in the media Romo has been under a lot of heat and pressure. Some deserved, some not.

I wanted Romo to come off the bench after that disastrous game, which I will not dreg up

but I was really pissed

I was looking at the thread you posted. With the other thread, that puts us over the requisite minimum.
