Are you ok with MM being here on 5 more years?

As if the first 5 he's been here haven't been enough. Does anyone think he'll see the entire 5 years?? Jerry seems to have the this thing for keeping coaches for 10 years, please give your thoughts
I rather the Cowboys gonin a different direction, but If they keep Mike I would hope it's a short term type commitment and it's clear what they want to see more of from him and less of. If you're Mike you have to ask for more help in the offseason and less locker room visits from Jones.

Does it really matter? The Jones boys are still here...
This cannot be said enough. It doesn't really matter who the coach is and the constant banter around this is maddening. Until we have a new owner/GM that is not Jerry, or Stephen, the Cowboys will most likely not have any post-season success. It's possible that we get "lightning in a bottle" for a single season but the past thirty years are a good predictor of what we will see going forward.

I find it comical as I imagine the hold up is they want to give Mike a 3 year deal and he wants 5 year deal. Where as with Dak they wanted to give him a 5 year deal and he went for the shorter deal.

Mike wants 5 so you can him in year 3 he still gets paid. Whatever it is they need to keep Bones and find the best DC in football.
I’d be surprised if Jerry is offering a 3 year deal. There have been reports he wanted an incentive based contract because he believes that motivates.

I could see Jerry offering something like a 5 year deal, but an early termination based on thresholds not met. Something like missed playoffs allows Jerry to terminate without penalty.

On the other side, there is zero chance McCarthy would do something like that. He may actually go for an incentive based, but at least a 3 year base at an average NFL HC salary. The incentives would escalate the pay and extend based in goals attained. Things like NFCCG and SB appearances.

Just answering the OP straight up...

Yeah.

But I'm also not one of those fans who think there is any head coach ever who, on his own, is so great that he's able to be the difference between Super Bowl and just good enough.

Rather, I think there are a pool of guys who have the capacity to coach a team to a Super Bowl, and you're either in that pool or you're not.

As long as McC continues to have the fire, the motivation, I'm confident he has the mind and experience that's going to qualify him.

But. The bigger issue is what is always the bigger issue. Do you have the talent inventory?

Yes, I'm fine with it as long as Jerry doesn't waste time. Chop chop Jerry!! Get the coaching staff situated, and let's get some more talent in through FA.

I won’t be watching the cowboys much if Mike is back. I missed 11 games this season. It’ll be the whole year next season. I’d never missed a cowboys game in a season since 1990 before this past year.

Totally respect your opinion.
I just don't agree with him being on the short list pool of guys capable of winning 4 consecutive playoff games against playoff defenses and coaching staffs.
Just like his QB, I can't ever picture that as a possibility
I guess his accomplishing it once 15 years ago with a 1st ballot HOF QB is supposed to influence my opinion.

But it doesnt.

MM has had enough time and some real competitive teams to get deep into the playoffs and to a possible SB appearance to which he and his teams have failed miserably. Giving him 5, 10 or 15 more years are not going to make any difference in his ability to get his teams over the hump, his style of coaching isn't a good fit for this organization................

The next five years with McCarthy probably won’t be as good as the first five years. The team isn’t nearly as talented as it was when he got here and now we have to contend with Philly and Washington. Plus Dak’s best seasons are probably behind him with him coming off this latest injury. The Cowboys have been reduced to a middle of the pack team. Just coming up with 10 wins is going to be a challenge.

I’m just confused. After the Garrett debacle I could have sworn Jerry said something to the effect that he’d never let it fester or get that bad again. So we have 5 yrs and a losing seasin after a playoff beat down and they reason for the resign is basically “they played hard?” Honestly this is why there was team tank because you can’t get a dumber organization

Not really, but with meddling owners he's probably the best of the candidates that would work for Jerry.
