I understand all the T.O. rumor/news is going to grab headlines, but isn't all this attention simply masking the real issues facing this team? Let's assume the Cowboys do sign T.O., there is no way even those who support this move can say the team has made itself significantly better than last year. At WR? Yes, talent wise. But overall, this team still has many needs - namely FS, RT and Kicker. Most would add OLB to this list and I certainly wouldn't argue.
My concern - apart from T.O. temperment - is JJ thinking his making the biggest splash in FA, somehow cures all the other teams ills. A bigger splash for me would have been a press conference announcing the signing of Will Demps or Chris Hope. Hopefully Josh Brown gets signed and if Petterson checks out he would make an nice addition as well. OL is a mystery, esp. with the best options already gone, so let's hope the scouting department can mine one and/or one can be found in the draft.
Removing my feelings about TO as a mature individual, TO's presence has a
HUGE impact on the Cowboys.
The Cowboys were three games from being the top seed in the NFC (The Commanders game, the Seahawks game and the Broncos game). I throw out the Rams game because we were just going through the motions.
We win those games and we're 13-3 and the first seed in the NFC.
Now, those field goals (or missed field goals I should say) were a result of us not getting into the end zone.
Yes, we had offensive line woes, but Keyshawn Johnson is not a break away threat, which causes teams to double Terry Glenn, taking him out of the game.
Because Jason Witten is blocking, that limits our pass receivers.
You add a TO (who is a better receiver than Keyshawn) and that adds a receiver the defense has to account for. That means less blitzing because either TO or Glenn can beat you. You have a TO, who scores at least 10 TDs a season, and you really don't need those field goals (or missed field goals).
TO will add a dimension to this team hasn't had in years.
And because we'll get Flozell Adams back and possibly sign a more reliable kicker, I'd say we have a dynamite offense (remember we have a healthy Julius Jones and Marion Barber) to go with a young, scrappy and improving defense.
And with the offseason acquisitions, we can now go "best available player" in the draft - a chance to get another playmaker.
Could Lendale White or DeAngelo Williams possibly drop to #18? Sure, we don't need another running back, but it doesn't hurt to have luxury at a particular position, and, remember, White is that big back that Parcells likes.
Do we go WR, nabbing either Holmes or (the guy from Florida, can't think of his name) and sit them behind TO for one or two years?
Do we continue to bolster our defense or go offense?
Again, I like the way Parcells is building this team. And even though I am among those who say "NO to TO," I'm not going to argue against his impact just because I don't like the way he carries himself. And his impact would/will be huge.
