Well, maybe you will go to work tomorrow and instead of your boss taking you in the back room to tell you how you're not doing something right he will make an announcement to the entire company or place it in the company news letter.

It's okay to be a Roy W fan, but don't let your bias blind you. Like I said, it's no different than everyone else belittling Roy W's bad technique. I don't think Roy W. watches T.V. anyways. I don't even think he's included in the film study during practice. You know, it could be possible that Roy Williams is a mute.

"You might want to have him add a few pounds and play a linebacker position, but I don't know if that's the answer. Working on his quickness and footwork and his ability to find the ball in the air would make a difference."

You people make it sound like Roy is a lost cause.

Renfro clearly said that the weakness of Roy was the DEEP BALL, and considering he is a strong safety, what do you expect? Mel wasn't a SS either...

Nobody said Roy is superman...

I was beginning to think I was the only one who didn't see "ZOMG! Mel Renfro said that Roy sucks and should be a LB!" in the original post.

I respect Mikes Renfro's opinion ...... but I also respect Ronnie Lott and Darren Woodson's.

Both who love how Roy plays and think he is the best Strong Safety in the league.

I don't think Mel is saying Roy is a bad player only pointing out and area of weakness that can be corrected.

I think that he's young enough to improve, but he's got to dedicate himself to his craft. He needs to be the Peyton Manning of SS's......He's only 27, and he has at least 4 more "young years" to study and work on his feet......

Exactly!

Per Mel..."I think someone just needs to work with him."

How conveniently that line is skipped right over.

Mel Renfro is not saying what these guys are saying, but you'd never know it reading their responses. It's amazing.
Per Mel... "His lack of ability to find the football has hurt him and as a result has hurt the Cowboys."

Talk about lines that will be conveniently skipped right over. What the hell does Mel know? Look at that stats Mel, it's all about the &*%$#!&^! stats.

You're confused. Complete and utter bias is not in my nature. I very well know what Roy's weaknesses are. My issue here isn't with Roy's coverage ability, it's with Mel public comments.

"I think someone just needs to work with him on that on an individual basis. Get him out there and run with him sideline to sideline; have a quarterback throw the ball; have receivers run down the field. His lack of ability to find the football has hurt him and as a result has hurt the Cowboys.

I would think that this is being done already............

If it is then they ain't doing a good job training him or Williams sucks beyond help.

How do you know? Ok, if he has then he needs to "re-dedicate" himself, because to me it sounds like you are satisfied with his current performances.....To me it is also sounding like he's achieved the best he can possibly attain..........

But Mel is not a coach or a member of this team. Is it any different if Jimmy Johnson says it? or some other coach when looking at a players weakness? Mel was asked and gave his opinion based on his experience as a former player

It is different. Aikman will point out that he has trouble in coverage. He doesn't start giving public lessons on how he should correct these issues.

Maybe he should, the boy needs some help!

Ok.....so how about when BP says it on NFL Countdown.....is that any different from Mel Renfro? I can see if T.O. or T-New, or even Wade Phillips said it publicly. That would be more detrimental than a proven former NFL player who has achieved HOF status......If I were Roy, I would bow down and ask Renfro to teach him the "force".... I mean look at how many current NFL RB's go up to Los Angeles and play Chess with Jim Brown. What do you think they are doing there? They are learning how to improve their craft!!

Work on footwork? Why on earth would a guy in his 7th year need to work on his footwork? He's RoyfreakinWilliams and he doesn't need to work on anything!

But even if he did need a tweak here and there, he'd be a black belt master of footwork by the year 2012! Then he'd show all the doubters wrong!

And Mel? He's just washed up.

He doesn't know anything about the modern day secondary player who needs his own special rules to be "close to the line" to be effective, because he comes from the stone-age where safeties actually helped out in coverage.

"Safety" valve, schmafety valve...Roy's got some big hits to make every 6 games or so!

How do you know he has not? I know he lost weight this summer to help him in coverage.... that does not sound like someone is not dedicated to his craft.

:lmao:

I don't know about you guys, but I am tired of holding my breath when I see a QB drop back and look to that side. You know how the network only shows a certain part of an angle before the ball goes up in the air.....The next thing you see a different camera switching to the secondary and the ball is overthrown, but the WR has Roy beat by at least 8 yards....It's frustrating!!:bang2:

Please don't make me answer that.....I will sum it up for you grasshoppa....Confucius says, "Roy Williams in coverage is like giving a whale a Tic-Tac"..........
