Well I saw that you were from Arkansas, and it reminded me of the cover of Yahoo.com where a man found this huge diamond at that park....So it kind of reminded me of a statement Emmitt Smith made similar to the contrast of a diamond in the rough, of which Roy W is not..........

Roy is a CZ in the rough.:D

I thought you were just mocking where I live, since I'm currently working in Murfreesboro....

Current Cowboys safety Roy Williams has been an all-pro safety, but struggles as a cover man. Williams gets beat deep, and beat often.

These are the author's words, whoever it is, not Renfro's hence the lack of quotation marks. Renfro's statements are obviously in response to questions and not an entire statement or suggestion to Roy. Judging by the authors beginning statement, it can be construed that he/she has a belief and then would ask questions to support that belief. Questions like these might change the tone of Renfro's statements.

Author: Roy seems to have difficulties defending the pass. Can you identify some problem areas that Roy needs to improve on to get back to an elite status?

Renfro: "I've watched him very closely. He has a problem with his footwork. He has a problem with finding the ball in the air, especially on the deep pass.

Author: How could the coaching staff improve on these issues?

Renfro:"I think someone just needs to work with him on that on an individual basis. Get him out there and run with him sideline to sideline; have a quarterback throw the ball; have receivers run down the field. His lack of ability to find the football has hurt him and as a result has hurt the Cowboys.

Author: Well, would it be better to just move Roy to linebacker to play towards his strengths near the line of scrimmage?

Renfro: "You might want to have him add a few pounds and play a linebacker position, but I don't know if that's the answer. Working on his quickness and footwork and his ability to find the ball in the air would make a difference.”

:lmao2: No! No! No! What's more assinine is how you vehemently disagree with my statement and contest that he's a great safety for us.

Are you really a Cowboys fan, you don't seem to want improvement in area's of weakness and to my knowledge in dealing with you, you never have. Status quo is great for you I guess.

Good breakdown.

I bolded something at the end of Mel's comments. Doesn't sound like a bust to me.

I don't understand people sometimes, they are so eager to get rid of Roy in favor of somebody else (Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Bob Sanders) or move him to linebacker. They don't realize if it was so easy to get one of them then every team would have an Ed Reed (Which IMO we already have an "Ed Reed" in Roy). You just can't say ok, lets dump our safety, who has been to 4 of the last 4 pro bowls, because we can do better.

Name 3 better strong safeties in the league kid ..... heck name one.

All you do is come to this board every few weeks and cry and moan about something .... be it Jerry, Wade, Roy ..... it does not matter to you.

So keep crying ...... and try to find a better Strong Safety in the league.

Nope, and I never placed him in the HOB.......

I totally agree with the improvement of the foot work and speed point, but my point is in relation to the off season.....I'm quite sure that all of these things Renfro stated have been told to Roy. He has to make the decision to improve and unfortunately I'm quite sure that BP saw it and Wade sees it.....However Roy makes too much money to ride the pine and we don't have a Plan B....So maybe Wade can get "Big Davis" to rough him up a little bit and get him to work harder; and do the Cartman......."Hey, won't you go in the kitchen and get me some pie".....

Ok, i feel better and justified about/for my criticisms of Roy's coverage skills.

Exactly ..... if we cut him today ..... there would be 30 teams in the league trying to get them a new Strong Safety.

The only Strong Safety I would trade Roy for is Landry ...... and that is on nothing but what he could become, because he is not there yet.

Thanks. I just wanted to put my take, that I wasn't going to get worked up over an article of this ilk: An article the author didn't put his/her name on, demonstrated a biased opinion of Roy's coverage abilities and failed to provide the questions or context in which Renfro was asked.

The article was written in such a way as to appear that Renfro made this long statement of advice to Roy unprodded, when he was obviously responding to questions that were asked. If this were just Renfro giving Roy advice, he would have been quoted saying as much.

Well the Cowboys certainly can't get rid of him now, in the middle of the season, I just wish he'd improve but I just don't think he will, his coverage problems have gone on for so long, there's not much sign that he will change. But hey if he did improve significantly in coverage I'd be all for keeping him or resigning him when his contract is up. For me it's not so much of a personal agenda against Roy the person, it's just all about the results for me.

Define what you mean better? There are several that are better in coverage, but Roy is probably the best against the run.....

Bob Sanders
Even though he's old, I wouldn't mind having Rodney Harrison.

You even said yourself you'd take LaRon Landry over Roy so there's 1 for you aparently, pretty hypocritical huh????

Bob Sanders, who has had 3 interceptions over the last 3 years and has shown an injury history?

Rodney Harrison, the 14 year vet who also has 3 interceptions over the last 4 years, 1 in the last 3 and is now starting to rack up injuries and suspensions?

Landry, having a rookie season that pales in comparison to Roys and could easily go downhill like many suggest has happened to Roy?

Cool, that's your opinion.

There were people on this board gushing over Sanders on Monday night because he made an interception. But he's been in the league four years now and still doesn't have as many interceptions as Roy made during his rookie season.

And if the Roy bashers had watched Sanders closely in that game, they would have seen him 1) Getting burned by some scrub tight end named Greg Estandia for a 22-yard completion; 2) Completely whiffing on a tackle at the line of scrimmage, allowing Fred Taylor to run past him for a 17-yard gain; 3) Taking poor angles in pursuit; and 4) Taking on blockers instead of trying to make tackles.

Better yet, if you watch any safety in any game, you could say similar things about them, too, because those things happen all of the time, even to the best players. But Roy is the only one I've seen who gets repeatedly bashed for not being perfect -- or better.
