Do it dude. HDTV on DTV rocks. They're going to soon expand the amount of channels they offer too. Not to mention, with the Superfan addon, all NFL games can be viewed in wondrous HD. Heaven I tell ya...

Well most of the games. All FOX games are in HD, while for some stupid reason CBS doesnt broadcast all of their games in HD.

But DTV is so much better than cable it isnt even close. And I have never had a landline for DTV for many years now.

I pay 40 bucks or so for an internet connection, and 100 bucks for DTV, but I get every movie channel and all the sports channels. Throw in the 200 bucks a year for Sunday ticket (a lot less than 50 bucks a week to go to a local bar) and life is grand.

Match that Cable provider.

I'm hooked on my DVR like crack. I record everything to watch later so I can skip commercials. :D

This has probably been said, but get vonage. That way you don't need a land line and you can still update your DVR. That's exactly what I do. Vonage acts like a land line but through your broadband.

But you still don't need to hook your DVR to get most of the updates. I haven't hook mine up for 125 days now and nothing changed.

I was a cable subscriber for many years up until I started getting DirecTV for the NFL Season Ticket and NBA League Pass 5 or so years ago. I'll never go back. You nailed it. DTV beats cable in value, picture quaility, and overall service hands down.

Next stop: Verizon Fios. (when it comes to my area)

I am PO'ed because I just found out that the developement where I am moving into this month does not allow dish services...

What am I gonna do?

smarta, someone is lying to you. There is a federal law that permits you the "right of reception."

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html

If you want satellite, you can not be prevented from putting up an antenna to receive the signal. There are some exceptions on rental property, but as long as you have a view of the southern sky, you pretty much can make something work.

Here's the wording of the regulation:

47 C.F.R. § 1.4000(a)(1) Any restriction, including but not limited to any state or local law or regulation, including zoning, land-use, or building regulations, or any private covenant, contract provision, lease provision, homeowners' association rule or similar restriction, on property within the exclusive use or control of the antenna user where the user has a direct or indirect ownership or leasehold interest in the property that impairs the installation, maintenance, or use of:
That may be the problem. He doesn't lease the outside of his apartment. If it's on the balcony, I'm sure it's fine, but once you start tacking things on the outside wall, he's not on property within his "exclusive use or control."

I will be living on a 2nd level townhouse in which I bought.

So Mr. Law School, I have a case to get direct tv?

Please represent me ;)

I had thought of that but wasn't sure if it would work. Thanks
