At Least We Are Not The Falcons

I've been through something very similar with the Rangers. As painful as that loss was, I would still rather have made it to the SB and lost in a heartbreaking, near impossible scenario than to have not made it. I don't wish the Rangers went out in Rd 1 and I don't wish they would have gotten swept or blown out. It wasn't the way I wanted that to end, but I'll always take being there over not.

Read where very few Atlanta fans showed up to welcome the Falcons back. A professor at a college who's a Falcons fan cancelled his classes so he could mourn. LOL One Falcons fan burned all his Falcons memorabilia and threatened to kill himself. Some are taking the loss extremely hard. I was checking out a Falcons fan board and they had a big "blessing in disguise" thread with some looking for a silver lining. Good luck with that one.

Dam, threatening to kill yourself because your team lost the SB...............that's crazy **** right there

What would be more painful for some of you losing the Super Bowl the way the Falcons did yesterday or losing 4 straight Super Bowls like the Bills?

There's some crazy fans out there.

I love me some Cowboys, but I aint killing myself over them because they don't win a ring............that's going way over the line of fandom and into some serious mental problems.

Just look at some of the crazy things that happen at sporting events especially at soccer games. You see fans beating the hell out of each other. I believe an official at a soccer game got knocked unconscious by one of the players. There was a brawl at a Dodgers game one year in the stands that was absolutely brutal. NFL officials have had their lives threatened. I remember many years ago Tom Landry got a death threat during a Monday Night game and he had to be removed from the field. They wanted him to wear a bulletproof vest but he refused. There's some real crackpots out there and I've run into a couple on boards like this.

The problem is too many people live vicariously through athletes and their teams. When the team wins, they feel they like have won as well and when the team loses, they feel like they have lost as well. Some people get so caught up in the emotion of the event that they can literally lose their mind. Like you said, normally passive, friendly people can turn violent from the outcome of sporting events, be it fighting other fans in the stands, going after the officials, or even threatening to kill yourself or harm others.

That is one reason that I would never take my little girl to a Cowboys road game.........you cant trust people nowdays.

More painful?

The Falcons loss.

I lived in western NY during the Bills run and each SB was for the most part treated differently and there wasn't as much cumulative affective of dropping 4 in a row.

Yeah, the Bills fans would have loved to have won 1 or 2 of them, but even today many look at the 4 in a row as a "badge of honor" of getting there 4 years in a row.

There's nothing honorable about what happened to the Falcons. No Falcon fan is going to think back on this game 25 years from now and get anything positive out of it.

I don't agree with the premise that losing the SB is worse than not even qualifying for it. I don't care how "soul crushing" that loss was, they got there which is more than 30 other teams did. Atlanta should be proud of what they did in the 2016-17 season. Us older Cowboys fans remember what it's like to lose the SB and yes it hurts but it is not as bad as being one and done and knowing your team had so much more potential. If you would rather be one and done than lose the SB then you don't have your priorities in order. Understand, the Cowboys should have been in the SB last weekend and the fact they didn't qualify should put fire in your belly for next season.

Teams to be on the look out for... Green Bay, Seattle, and yes...Atlanta. The SB being hosted in Minnesota's new house looks intriguing. I plan on my Cowboys being there and I'll be there to support them. I hope you join me.

I'm already over the playoff loss to Green Bay but losing like that in the Super Bowl would've haunted me until I die like the Catch has......that tells me all I need to know. Losing in the Super Bowl is always the worst possible kind of loss but the way the Falcons lost is historic. I would've hated to be a Seahawk fan and lose like they did too. That was also brutal.

Yea we got beat by Green Bay and went one and done, but at least we didn't lose like that. Blowing a 25 point lead in the SuperBowl would be about as soul crushing a defeat as there could be.

I seriously would rather lose by 50 points than to lose like they did.............wow, biggest choke job in the history of sports. 10 points was the biggest lead ever overcome before in the SB in half a century until last night.

Dam, talk about having your soul ripped out if you are a Falcons fan today when you know they were all celebrating like it was over when it was 28-3............feel bad for them, I would probably have broken half the stuff in my house if that was Dallas last night.........LOL

I agree 100 percent. it may not be completely logical, but I can live with our 4 and 12 2015 season a lot easier than I could an epic choke like that in the Super Bowl.

Yeah, Buffalo fans do look at the 4 straight SB's as a badge of honor because no team has ever gone to 4 straight SB's but to lose all of them especially the way they lost to the Giants in their first SB loss having a potentially winning FG go wide right had to really sting. Plus they faced an average QB in Jeff Hostetler. I would agree losing the way the Falcons did would be the most painful because the game was theirs and they collapsed in the final 10 minutes. They were up 28-3 and had a 28-9 lead with just under 10 minutes. They gave up 31 unanswered points in the second half and never even got a chance with the ball in OT. That kind of loss could lead to a real hangover next season and for seasons to come.

The Falcons did lose 5 games and it was mostly because they got outscored in shootouts. Because the Falcons score so quick they were leaving their defense on the field too much in games this season and that happened on Sunday. They only possessed the ball for 23 minutes compared to 40 minutes for NE. The Falcons came up with a number of big chunk plays which is something you want but it gave Brady too many opportunities. Once Atlanta's drives started to stall in the second half, they were in trouble. They had a huge holding call that killed a drive and Ryan's fumble really swung the momentum in favor of NE.

I would not want to lose that way. Especially giving it away passing when they should have run the ball and kicked a FG - That was stupider than anything Garret has ever done. In FG range and all you had to do was kick a FG to win the game and you drop back and pass..........

Forget about any major coaching decisions.

At the very least you let the clock work in your favor.

Run the ball. Eat clock.

They didn't score any points anyway,

Could you imagine having never won a Super Bowl and then losing one in that way? After hugging and Furley sniffing at halftime?

Brutal.
