At what point do we give up on the Romo-Ware-Witten-Garrett core?

And Carter. Our pass defense lost us that game, for the most part. Romo played great. Witten had a big drop and a tough matchup, but obviously nobody's going to give up on him. Ware looks to me to be slowing down due to nagging injuries, so I'd give up on him as his effectiveness gradually declines. Garrett, I see as a big plus and not a negative, so that's a pretty easy one for me, as well. I'll give up on all of them individually when they can no longer contribute at a high level.

This exactly. As long as three of them are playing at a top 10 level, suggesting that getting rid of them is absurd. Especially all at once. All three will likely be retired gradually over the next 4 years anyway, but right now, they're still playing at the top of their games. On the subject though, I honestly think Ware has the least amount of time left. Like maybe one more season.

No reason to give up on Ware or Witten. They play out their contracts and we are done with them. With Romo, on the other hand, we have a big decision looming. If we are sitting there in the mid-teens in the 2014 draft, after yet another 8-8 season (or worse), and a multi-dimensional QB like Mariota, Manziel, Morris is available, we have to strongly consider transitioning to an offense led by that type of QB in 2015. As we've seen with RGII, Russell Wilson, even Terrelle Pryor, mobile QBs that can throw make both running (read-option) and passing (play action from read option, or having to devote a spy to prevent scrambling) so much easier than pure pocket passers (unless you hit on a Hall of Famer like Peyton, Brady, Brees, which Romo will never be). I am a Romo fan and have always defended him, but I dont know that building around him is the answer anymore.

When they retire? I am just as sickened with this loss as everyone, but we are overreacting now. All 3 guys are at least ROH candidates and they are far from done.

Yeah, 12 games left in the season and it's time to put anyone over 21 out to pasture.

The Cowboys lost 2 and won 2. They most likely will get the crap kicked out of them by Denver and end up 2-3 with 11 games to go, but, the Instant Gratification Crowd (yeah Zordon, you are one of them) just cannot wait the season out before you want to get rid of anyone that makes mistakes during a game.

The extension set back this franchise 5 years. We should have let him play out this season, evaluate where the franchise was and then dropped his *** after another 8-8 season. The team needs fresh faces at these 4 positions.

If Romo and his 105 passer rating and single interception thrown is the problem with the Cowboys, what does that make Eli Manning?

Romo isn't the reason Dallas is in a .500 rut. He's the only reason they're not 3-13 every year.

I agree about Romo. It was a stupid extension, and I said it back then.

But you definitely keep Ware and Witten. Let them play out their contracts.

Start with the Joneses if you want to run guys out of town.

We can't run the Joneses away. They are lifers unfortunately.

He's played decent. He's far from the issue. But eventually you need to turn the page on everybody if the product never changes.

Unless Romo plays out the entire contract with no changes, he is not a "100 million QB" like so many (usually those that want him gone) keep saying. We all know (or should know) that the guaranteed money is all that counts.

Also, if we're going to include players that have been in Dallas awhile and are over 30, then Ware and Hatcher must be expendable too.

This is total nonsense...IMO

Stepping away for the short-term emotions and just looking at the team overall, they look like a better team than the last two years.

I've given up on ware and witten along time ago . They simply put up stats but nothing more . Garrett I'm starting to give up on him . I just can't stand 1win one loss anymore .

The only guy I would keep is romo . It is so hard to find a qb I just don't think he is replaceable YET .

You really think any of those four were primarily responsible for yesterday's loss? And, if not, why suggest anybody give up on them?
Yes they were :
Exhibit 1 romo hits witten perfect on the numbers . Ball bounces off witten chest forced to punt .

Exhibit 2 3rd and 2 with over 2 min left ware jumps offsides like a Rookie =game over . What "great " player constantly does stupid stuff like this ?

Getting rid of your three best players (minus Dez) isn't the solution to making any team better. With that, I'm not sure Ware has much time left regardless.

I don't think those our are best players .
I put lee , Carr , hatcher and even consider church better than ware .

Witten just doesn't make enough impact plays to scare a defense .

I gave up on Romo and Garrett quite awhile ago.

Those 2 don't have what it takes to win in spite of jerry jones.

Romo is a facilitator, that is all. He isn't a game winning QB and his career record is beginning to show that.

Too be fair, not many coaches could succeed under Jones, and not many Qb's could succeed under this simplistic high school offense.

Under the Dynastic Jones Pharaohs how will the Cowboy fans be anything more than slaves?

Where is our Moses who will say: "Let my people (team) go" and follow-it up with 7 plagues?

I suggest the first plague start with a bazillion cockroaches infesting the Jones estate. If only I can locate some divine power plug.

These are definitely examples of these guys not making plays. Neither of those things is the sort of thing you give up on a core of players for. It's much easier to point to the problems on the back end of our pass protection to see that we're a bottom-five pass defense, and it's killing us, yet again.

Yep which makes it mind numbing that we still find ourselves at .500. Everything has changed around these guys yet it still remains the same. Maybe its just not meant to be. I'm ready for change man...tired of going off feelings.

I was ready to break up the core 2 years ago after the debacle in week 17 against new york. I was told that was crazy, and to be patient, only for the EXACT SAME THING to happen in Washington last year. I wonder what the excuses will be this year as to why they shouldnt be broken up
