At what point do we give up on the Romo-Ware-Witten-Garrett core?

Yep which makes it mind numbing that we still find ourselves at .500. Everything has changed around these guys yet it still remains the same. Maybe its just not meant to be. I'm ready for change man...tired of going off feelings.

Yes, two years of 8-8.
The Cowboys have had winning seasons in all other years that the group you mentioned has been together and when Romo has been the starter for most of the games.

Dude they've been .500 they're entire careers. Wake up!

No they haven't.

Come on Z. You know better. You're just frustrated from the SD fiasco.

Dallas' record with Romo starting is 57-40...one of the better won-loss records of any active QB.

This season is not over yet! Damn it...can't you wait and see how this season plays out?

If they end up 8-8, ok, I could agree with you. But the season has not yet started!

Yeah, the Cowboys are 2-2...but, there are many more games to be played.

Hey, Peyton Manning might get hurt for the rest of the season during this next game. Or, Brees might get a broken leg, or, maybe, maybe, maybe....

All I am saying is that it is early in the season and it is not time to throw in the towel...

No reason to give up on Ware or Witten. They play out their contracts and we are done with them. With Romo, on the other hand, we have a big decision looming. If we are sitting there in the mid-teens in the 2014 draft, after yet another 8-8 season (or worse), and a multi-dimensional QB like Mariota, Manziel, Morris is available, we have to strongly consider transitioning to an offense led by that type of QB in 2015. As we've seen with RGII, Russell Wilson, even Terrelle Pryor, mobile QBs that can throw make both running (read-option) and passing (play action from read option, or having to devote a spy to prevent scrambling) so much easier than pure pocket passers (unless you hit on a Hall of Famer like Peyton, Brady, Brees, which Romo will never be). I am a Romo fan and have always defended him, but I dont know that building around him is the answer anymore.

If we dump romo for a running qb especially a garbage one like Pryor or the current spare taking snaps in Columbus I will be sick.

And will probably check out for a while. I despise those running qb's and those bush league offenses.

How many more years of this before we realize it's never going to happen for this core? Have some of you already come to this conclusion?

Just curious b/c we've changed a lot of pieces around these four but it always equals out to 8-8. Maybe its just not meant to be for these four in Dallas.

Ware was MIA yesterday until a timely offside. Witten with a key drop. Romo does not look like a 100M dollar QB. Garrett is still robotically preaching the process. Anybody else just sick of this **** with this core and ready to move on from all of it? I mean for crying out loud folks it's been a decade of this misery!

I would be happy with just Mr. Ivy League being shown the door.

Maybe it's just me but when I look at the read option teams they are 12-19 on the year. I don't think that's the route to go by any wild stretch.

I'm done with the core. They haven't won anything in their careers, and they aren't going to at this point. It's time to get rid of the older players, and start a youth movement. Blow this stupid team up, and keep the younger guys with the huge upside: Lee, Carter, Church, etc...

This should have happened already IMO. We could have traded Romo away to a team like the Bills or Browns for a #1 pick in 2014, we could have then traded a #2 or #3 for a QB like Alex Smith, and then in 2014 we could have drafted our future franchise QB and he could have played behind Smith for a year or we could have traded Smith at that time. Also, we could have traded Spencer for a 2014 2nd round pick, and who knows what we could have gotten for Witten and Ware. We seriously could have rebuilt this team if we wanted to. Instead we are stuck with the same core group of players who Jason Hatcher didn't even recognize as leaders.. what does that tell you?

Then we wouldn't be strapped to Romo's massive contract. The guy has NEVER gotten it done here and he was clearly our weakest link against the Commanders last year in the win and you're in game. I get it, tons of people are in love with him since we went through a decade with sucky QB's before he came a long. However, for whatever reason, he is not the answer here to lead our team to the super bowl.

As a fellow Dallasite I'm ashamed you just used that to defend your point. Every single season with the exception of the 09 season has been miserable with this foursome.

You can't give away the Chiefs game and then lose to a beat up Chargers team and expect to do anything this season. You have to stack wins early so that win adversity like injuries hits us later (yes, they are coming), that we have some leeway. Right now we are on a direct path to another stressful December where we're forced to win every game to stay alive.

I agree with you man. I would be happy to have us go 3-13 or whatever next year knowing that the youth movement will be successful in the following years.. When you keep being average what good does it do in the future? The current is average and the future will be average. If the current is bad, and the future is bright then that will be the formula for success. Examples of the 2013 Chiefs and 2012 Colts come to mind right away.

You don't know that, and neither do I. Now, I'm not saying that the Cowboys can do what the Giants did when they won a SB when they were, what, 9-7 to win the division and then the SB?

But, if you feel the season is lost after 4 games? That is just...lazy!

Yes I exaggerated. But how about Romo/Garrett combo. What is the record as them together as coach and QB? It has to be below .500. Can you at least admit that these two will not lift a Lombardy trophy together in Dallas. One has to go.

Who is WE? You give up on them great but who is the WE. We seems to be you then just say it.

Great post! It's funny how the ten precenters try to lump everybody together to look for validation.

Yeah let's go get David Carr he's available.

I still think this franchise can win with Romo if they put him on a pitch count. I'm screaming for the changing of the guard when it comes to that core. Murray (the run game) and Dez should be the focal points of the offensive gameplan with Dez being Romo #1 option every pass outside of a screen. When Witten is a top 2 receiver we are misusing a playmaker in Miles, Harris, Murray (out of the backfield), Beasley and/or Dunbar. All IMO are more explosive than JW. Defensively, I think we can win with Ware and his inconsequential sacks but Lee, Church and Hatcher need to be the voice/face of this defense. Spencer is another but I'm afraid his knee will let him down.

The group of players you named aren't great leader and this is why I want a changing of the guard. Hatch, Lee, Dez, Murray and Church need to be in that new core.

I would like to see Witten banished after this season. Sorry, love the guy's attitude and compete level but he is an anchor at this stage in his career and Romo will be better off without him.
They also need to find a replacement for Ware. He just shrinks when the team needs him most, maybe if they can find someone who can take snaps away from him we'll see a fresher player down the stretch of games.

You really think any of those four were primarily responsible for yesterday's loss? And, if not, why suggest anybody give up on them?
Yes, they are the default leaders of a franchise that is trying to overcome a label they established for themselves. They gameplans are centered around them for us to have success and yet again they cant motivate/lead this 2013 past their .500 image. This team starts and ends with those 3 and its time to change the faces of this franchise. They are also responsible for being company men that sale that same crap Jerry, Stephen and Garrett is pushing on us without any good consistent winning results. Just listen to them, they all sale the same hope just with different words. None of them are REAL but they are always forced on us as the spokesmen of the Cowboys and that phoniness is I believe is evident in the lockerroom. Garrett is gonna lose this team and its because the other players dont believe in said core and their message coming from the top. Too much public PC!

if you blow this team up, who is going to make the right decisions on the players who are brought in? Jerry?I vote for blowing the scouting department up!

I'm not sure when we should (maybe two years ago?) but I'm virtually certain they won't until they absolutely have to. There will be no tread left on their tires and I suspect all that will be left is the dead money of their contracts that they'll have to work around while trying to find their replacements

I would like to see the core we have now with a QUALITY coach. And, i'm hoping one is on the way after this season. You can't tell me we wouldn't be winning with Harbaugh, Gruden, or someone of that nature...Please Jerry, no more puppets...
