At what point does Jerry start fining Zeke?

A daily fine could get Zeke's attention.
Yet, blokes, it would strain the already strained relations between Jerry, who feels betrayed, and Zeke who feels underappreciated, financially.

I believe Jerry, at some point, will either warn of fines or actually begin the financial sanctions on Zeke.
But, I believe, it would only take place after 2 weeks of Zeke's absence.

Eeek! $40,000 in fines per day plus a prorated sum of Zeke's signing bonus and other sanctions?

Fans, are fines a mistake for Zeke?
Or an effective tool on someone not abiding by a contract?

....that would add more salt to the wound as tensions would escalate. I also feel that would improve the chances of him signing elsewhere. But..business is business and football is a part of it.
 
My guess is that, as this point, Jerry’s trying to keep the negotiations on a somewhat “friendly” basis.

However, by missing the official reporting date, Zeke can still be fined retroactively from that date forward (believe this is true, please correct me if wrong, guys).
 
They always are. Forgiveness of fines is the final stage of negotiations.

Especially with someone as genial as Jerry.
Come to think of it, that might be Jerry's Achilles heel. He wants players to love him.
Most other owners and coaches care squat if they are loved by players.

Start now. Show Zeke you mean business. It’s part of the CBA for a reason.



Yep, whats the point of having a CBA and contracts if you allow players to blow it off when they want. I say fine him now. 40k a day starts to add up real quick.
 
It's fairly obvious some folks here have never actually managed employees. If you did, they probably hated you and did as little as possible.

Sure, fine the heck out of him. Create animosity. If that compels him to show up, what kind of employee do you think you'll get? You'll get one who can't get out of town soon enough. He'll either create so much drama it forces a trade or it just distracts the team and it underachieves. You'll hate him more than ever, and the Cowboys won't win anything.

But yeah, "show him you mean business"...good luck with that. As opposed to, you know, negotiating and looking to resolve the matter amicably.

Some people are taking this personally. I'm sure Jerry and Stephen aren't this upset.

My father taught me well on managing quality people.

Over pay them and you’ll save time , money and clients or customers with minimum turnover. The cost of turnover can take its toll on a business and office costing more in the long run.

At the same token . Don’t waste time with others . Turn them loose at the first sign of dissenting attitude , lazy, needing constant prodding , poor attendance,etc.
 
They may be totting up the fines on a spreadsheet to use as leverage, but I imagine if a new deal gets worked out that they will be forgiven.

This. Unless/until you're trying to push for a cash flow squeeze, you don't demand the fines. When a new deal happens, the fines will disappear, whether or not they were used in the negotiations to squeeze a lower contract price.
