I don't agree. First, I don't think of it has punishing OSU. It is more of a rewarding Auburn and this would most likely occur next week. I heard Brad Edwards of ESPN say the same thing yesterday morning. Those voters inclined to do so want to wait a week to make sure.
Right. And then some other guy on the exact same show said that the voters had a sour taste with OSU's poor performance against Michigan. That sour taste will be gone after Saturday if they win.
Missouri has a 0.830 computer scoring percentage and Michigan St has a 0.620 computer scoring percentage. That is a significant scoring difference.
That's not a significant scoring difference when looking at strength of schedule. Both Auburn and OSU are playing 11-1 teams this weekend. Yes Auburn's opponent is statistically better, but it isn't so lopsided that they will jump over OSU.
If Auburn was going to jump OSU in the computers, it would have happened this weekend, when Auburn played the #1 team in the nation and OSU played an unranked team. If that difference wasn't enough to jump OSU in the computers, then both teams playing 11-1 teams the same weekend won't do it.
Mizzou will be the 5th team Auburn has faced that is currently ranked in the BCS top 25. Michigan St will be the 2nd team OSU has faced that is currently ranked in the BCS top 25. How does OSU lead Auburn if you throw out the best and worst teams they have faced?
You obviously don't understand how the BCS computer rankings work. I wasn't saying throw out their best and worst teams they have played, I was saying throw out each team's best and worst computer rankings (which is what the BCS does). Throw out OSU's best and worst, and they are left with 4 #2 rankings. Throw our Auburn's best and worst and they are left with 4 #3 rankings. I just don't see any chance Auburn jumps OSU in those 4 rankings considering their upcoming opponents are roughly equal strength.
If both win out Auburn will jump OSU in the computer polls. The key is the human polls, which will be harder to overcome. I think it is a possibility, but I don't think it will happen.
Well, I disagree with what you're saying about the computer polls, but I agree the human element is wildy unpredictable.
