In late 2012, Dak Prescott likely wasn't thinking about an NFL future. He was just a Dallas Cowboys fan with some angst and a Twitter account.

Who knew that on Dec. 30, 2012, he wasn't just ripping Tony Romo on Twitter, he was ripping future Cowboys teammate Tony Romo? The Cowboys picked Prescott late in the fourth round on Saturday, presumably to possibly be Romo's successor someday.

It's really not that big of a deal. Prescott was 19 years old and at that point had 29 career college passes. There's no way he could have known that day, as Romo threw three interceptions in a Week 17 game at Washington with a playoff spot on the line, that he'd work with Romo someday.

So says the QB that thinks he is a running back.

I actually like the Dak pick a lot where we got him. I realize he's got a long, long way to go, but he's got a lot going for him. I think he's got a shot.

I want a QB, not a running back. This pick is 110% a Jerry Jones pick.

There is a quality he has, the leadership quality where teammates will run through a wall for you, which is not something that can be taught. I hope our staff can teach him the qualities he needs to sharpen up on. That's where the story gets shaky. Grooming QBs has not been our specialty.

There are certain folks who are leaders of men. I'm not throwing that phrase out lightly in the sports world. Jason Garett is one. Dak can be one as well, he has the characteristics.

In all fairness Wilson hasn't had much to work with besides Romo.. Just Stephen McGee..

In fairness to the coaches, we haven't given them a lot to work with.

We've got three former QBs on the offensive staff, plus Tony, the good OL and the running game. This is as good a place to learn as any in the league right now.

I agree that Dak's got that leadership quality, and he's willing to put in work. Let's hope we get lightning in a bottle again.

I agree, this is one of the best situations a young QB can get into to learn how to play the game. I'm curious how Garrett will handle him, groom him, and get him ready to play. I'm curious if Garrett will adjust the system to get the most out of Dak's skills of running. I'm curious if Garrett can help Dak improve his accuracy.

To me this is one of the biggest tests for Garrett as a head coach for the present and moving forward. Can he turn this raw prospect into a respectable back up and/or starter? Any coach can look good with a Tony Romo, but we've seen what Garrett looks like without #9. So can Garrett nurture Dak into a player in this league? I feel the ball is in 2 courts. Dak has to want to succeed and Garrett has to have the ability to coach up Dak to play in this league. If Garrett can do this then my opinion of him would change, if he can't then we are screwed for life when Romo is gone.

It's on Garrett now to see if he can develop a drafted QB the next couple years, whether it be Dak or some other young guy we bring in.

Dak, please.

You can't sniff Romo's jock on his WORST day.

Get outta here.

Well no one here has sniffed even getting into the NFL yet that doesn't stop us from being overly critical about this team and organization. So Dak isn't allowed to do the same?

Nothing I haven't said myself in frustration. Now, he will see how tough it is firsthand!

Dak is gonna learn pretty quick that Romo is a damned wizard who is creating masterpieces with basically a box of crayons (our offense).

I don't know that you could find a better guy to learn behind though. I wonder if he could just follow Romo around for 2 or 3 years and just pick up all those good study habits that Romo has basically had to have since he came in the league. UDFAs don't get anything handed to them and they don't normally have enough natural ability to get by on. It's about putting in the work and Romo is the poster child for that. Hopefully Dak can get in on some of that Romo magic.

Dak, here's the deal.
If Tony throws the Deep ball and it gets picked it's a punt even if it's only second down.

If Tony throws an intermediate pass and it gets picked off the receiver ran the wrong route.

Who is Tony throws a short pass and it gets picked off the offensive line allowed too much penetration.

To Tony gets sacked, it wasn't because he held the ball for 6 seconds.

Now you're ready.

I was done with Romo then too. I thought we should have traded him after that. I just figured he's never gonna do it as a Cowboy and maybe he needs a change of scenery.
I like Romo, I would love to see him succeed but sometimes I wonder if it in the cards here with the Cowboys.
Aside from 2014, where he was robbed of glory, he's been injured and unsuccessful under Jerry and Jason.
