AZ fans worried about Fitz

I thought this may be interesting conversation about Fitzgerald. I got this information from the AZ message board.

Fitzgerald has met playing time thresholds, his original 2008 salary of $1.1 million has grown to $4.6 million. He is due a $5 million bonus for making the Pro Bowl back in 2005, and he made the Pro Bowl this year he will be due an additional $5 million and that makes it 14.6 in salary. Add his signing bonus(2.7Mil) and that makes it 17.3 million.
Next year (2009) his base should be around 17mil.

Means his cap number is at $17.3 million for next year. Arizona probably won't want to pay it and may release him.

He probably won't get released...you know, the re-structure thing?

True, but they also claimed they wanted to re-sign Bigg at one point and then didn't. Fitzgerald may feel that he can get bigger $$$$ by going on the FA market than sticking around and re-structering. I guess it comes down to whether or not he wants to stay in Arizona.

I wish we could get him.

He is going to be a Superstar at some point in his career.

The dude is like 23 or 24 and has already had a very nice career.

Cardinals GM Rod Graves plans to meet with the agents for Larry Fitzgerald, Calvin Pace, and Karlos Dansby during Senior Bowl week.

Pace and Dansby can be free agents on February 28, while Fitz needs his $16+ million cap number reduced. Dansby is a prime candidate for the franchise tag. Long-term agreements with Pace and Fitzgerald seem likely.

Could not agree more - he already is a superstar IMO - he just plays for AZ. I'd give up some serious $ to land this cat.

Well, if we somehow got Fitz - that would mean giving up a lot this year. No big free agents - and you would probably have to let go on Flo. It's pretty much proof in the pudding the Boys will re-sign Barber - but Flo, Hamlin.. it's choices, choices, and more choices. I'm kind of excited to see how this all plays out.

Honestly though the way the guy runs routes, the speed he has, and great football smarts on top of that he would be such a perfect fit in our offense.

Especially when Romo goes to scramble outside of the pocket.

For some reason he reminds me of a bigger, stronger Terry Glenn.

Just has the hands and everything you like in a receiver.

I think it comes down to whether Fitz really wants to continue his career with the Cards or play for a team with playoff/SB aspirations. Sometimes it is all about the money and players will follow the money.

He might be worth it.

Lets be honest. We probably are the best team in the NFC.

Even if we got Fitz we would still be able to fill some other holes, which aren't many, and look to make another Superbowl run.

I live in Az and know first had that the Cards are notoriously cheap and do not have a good track record when it comes to retaining key players. They lack in negotiation sklls....we'll see...

Yer prolly right. I have no problem letting go of Flo for Fitz. Flo is up there in age and Fitz is a stud for years to come. Having said that, we do indeed need help on D. I am just a HUUGE believer in Fitzgerald and it is a position of need that can be fixed immediately. All depends on the numbers but if Arizona is willing to talk, I am the first one on the phone.

As Hos has said numerous times, Detroit's Roy Williams is another SERIOUS option.

You don't want this guy. I watch him every weekend (I live in Phoenix). I love the guy because he is a class act but he has no speed and has difficulty getting separation. Most of the catches he makes are over the middle or because he outleaps people. He is a younger Plaxico Burress. He gets a lot of passes thrown his way which inflates his numbers. Good guy and good player but not the type of player than you and most fans in the league envision him to be. He really can't stretch a defense

This guy is a STUD. Get your glasses checked. There is NOTHING you can say that can change my mind on the talent that Larry Fitzgerald has. I coud care less where you live........I could not disagree with you more on this. He is without question, a top 5 WR in this league.

The Cards are also famous for keeping the players they want. They are so cheap that they will pretty much tell the league they are not going to resign certain players aka Leonard Davis. However, they will go out of their way to sign the ones they want like Anquan Boldin.
