It really goes to show, we really don't know these athletes. Ray Rice was suppose to be one of the good guys. Was this an awful mistake or was he really hiding his real self thru his public self. What he did was obviously horrible. Before seeing the video (the NFL said they did not see it) Rice was not prosecuted against and maybe the thought he made a huge mistake but it wasn't a flat out knockout (maybe both drunk and he pushed her and she hit her head). The video obviously showed this was not the case. It was even worse than I could imagine.

To me it shows just because a player is nice to you or takes time to give you an interview, does not make that guy a great guy. The opposite is true as well.

I realize that. But next year? After his suspension.

Indefinitely means indefinitely, according to NFLN Rice would have to apply to the NFL office to be admitted back into the league. BTW there is pretty much 0 chance of that ever happening.

Lol. Seriously? Goodell and the Ravens have seen this video way before now. Don't be naive that they didn't. They tried to sweep this under the rug and it didn't work.

Goodell should be terminated as well for covering this up. Don't act like the ravens or Goodell is clean in this and they are doing the right thing.

What is naive is to think that it wouldn't have been leaked until now had they seen it.

Like I said, I don't think anyone reasonably could believe that they had seen this video.

So did the casino hide the video from the NFL? What excuse would the NFL have for not viewing the video?

The police let Ray and fiancé leave together after this incident.

Keep in mind the assault took place in New Jersey, the same area Ray Rice played college ball.

Let's say he goes to counseling & he comes back & says ok Dr. So & So says I have been rehabilitated..my wife & I are still together...I want back in.

As someone else said they have guys on rosters who are responsible for killing someone else.

Not debating the right or wrong or of what he did because there is nothing to debate but what do they do then?

I was in and out of my car for work earlier listening to ESPN. I thought I heard someone mention that the grand jury pushed for a harsher punishment, but the prosecutors decided not pursue the harsher charges. All of them saw the video at that time.

Light came on and the Commish and Ravens are running like cockroaches and breaking their necks trying to punish Ray Rice after the crap they pulled with just giving him a couple of games earlier.

I hope this stink fest continues for a while because I believe they were hoping it would go away but with the video out there now they could not keep hoping it would go away on it's own.

You honestly believe that they thought there was no way this video would get out?

Come on man. Seriously?

There is no one that stupid in the positions those people are in. You don't sweep those things under the rug because you believe that the video will never get out.

I don't believe that for one second.

You think a multi billion dollar corporation and a NFL team had not seen the video until today?

Lol

You think a billion dollar corporation that did see that wouldn't have reacted more strongly - given that they would know that it eventually would get out.

That's the real lol.

Agreed. If the NFL didn't see the video, it is only because they didn't want to see it.

Now this I believe and I do believe they didn't choose to pursue it.

I think they took the story that both Ray and his wife told at face value and didn't bother to dig into it any deeper. Goodell has said many times that what she told him was the biggest determining factor in the punishment that was handed down.

I believe the league dropped in the ball by not going out and getting the video and instead taking what Ray and his wife said but I don't believe they saw this before now and thought that they could just sweep it under the rug. That would be the ultimate in being naive to think that into technology based world that a video like that would just go away.

I also think that had the NFL actually seen it back then, and given that suspension, that there is no way that it would have lasted until now before getting out. Someone would have sold that tape to the highest bidder the same day the suspension came out if the NFL had actually seen it and did nothing with it.

I don't think the NFL execs and commissioner viewed the tape before today. Perhaps they thought they were in a position of plausible deniability.

Simplest explanation. Almost always correct.

As Rice attempts to drag his fiancé out of the elevator, you can clearly see casino security addressing the situation.

Again, I don't see how it is possible for the NFL security to not have access to the casino's video surveillance.

Good for the Ravens? Those idiots and the NFL knew exactly what happened in that elevator, they only chose to act now because of the publicity hit of the public being able to see. It was all fine and dandy when the punch was hidden from public consumption, even though everyone saw the result - but not now.

I don't get all the NEW outrage from this new video. I'm not sure what people expected. I figured everyone pretty much assumed that is what happened in the elevator. In all honestly, it's a lot less that I thought it could have been. When I first saw reports of this new video and the outcry from it, I figured I'd see Rice just beating on her repeatedly. Nope, just one hit. It's about the least that he could have done that led to the result we saw in the initial video. And that's not even taking into account her coming at/hitting him. I'm not sure how the NFL can revise their suspension upwards now either (not that I'm sure it matters since I doubt a team is willing to give him a shot for quite some time).

I just don't get how this video really changes anything.

Edit: Rewatched the video and I saw it wrong earlier. It does look like he hit her twice (the first time causing her to go after him).

That would make sense, but still makes the NFL look lazy. A star player assaults his fiancé and you take his/her word about what actually happened rather than digging a bit deeper. Sad.

Drunk driving is intentional, killing your passenger clearly is not - which is why Brent was convicted of Manslaugher and not Murder.

More people die in car wrecks caused by excessive speed than by drunk drivers. If you apply your logic, everyone who has ever exceeded the speed limit is guilty of Murder. Which I would bet includes every poster here. I'm not defending Brent's actions, just drawing the comparison that he didn't intend to hurt anyone while Rice clearly did.

...remember Brent was driving at an estimated 110 mph and completely jumped the freeway.

The images are now engrained in everyone's head. Lesson to abusers: Make sure you aren't in camera range.
