This is the world's dumbest bluff, because the Cowboys don't want Romo's full salary on the salary cap books and everyone knows it.
Well, one option was to keep him on as a backup.....why not???

The general point is the overall failure.

Not getting picks was just the final insult. This was coming and people should have seen it years ago when they last opened up the Bank of Romo and borrowed against it. All while having the lunatic owner say the player has "five more years".

But according to some geniuses around here, we are not mentally challenged when dealing with the cap and contracts.

Most around here justified the contract, even praised it.

I for one, always thought it was a horrible contract, and got roasted for thinking that.

We aren't trading him to SF out of respect. I'm sure 12 teams would be interested if we just didn't care. Romo wants Houston or Denver and they know we're not going to trade him to a cheap team out of respect. Is it the right thing to do for the cowboys ? No. But it's the right thing to do for Romo.
To paraphrase Don Draper, "That's what the money was for!!!"

But they really are. There is no evidence whatsoever that being nice to Tony somehow will benefit the Cowboys down the road. FAs suddenly aren't going to say, "Gee, man that Jerry Jones, what a great way to honor Romo. I am going to love playing there for less money!"

The players on this roster notice. Maybe that means nothing but as someone who's emotionally invested in the team I have respect for the decision. Empathy is not bad just because some people lack it

I don't think more than one team would be willing to trade for Romo tbh. You'd have to already have a QB on your roster who you're trusting to be the future, because Romo isn't it. He's a rental at this point.

However I think waiting till the draft would be better Imo. Unless there's something the team is planning for during this wave of free agency. Which I doubt.

Well we definitely became a worse team today without the option of Tony behind Dak.

But the good news is we can sign McCown now.......puke.

They did right by a guy who handled a tough situation as well as it could be handled. I wouldn't have done it this way but it's entirely justifiable.

In one drive against Philly, Romo through balls we didn't see all year from Dak.

The team just got worse.

I agree with you but, giving Dak the job permanently made the move inevitable. Sad really. But, such is life in the NFL.

And watch Denver trade Simien for a draft pick. You just can't make this crap up. It is sickening.
He's a young QB with upside. Of course they could trade him.

Romo has done great things....no doubt...but he's 37. He has back issues. I can't see why so many were expecting draft picks for him.

Youth/Old age...can't be undersold here.

Many are trying to compare our situation with Romo to that of Bradford. Vikes were deperate...Bradford is a former number one pick that's still on the right side of 30. Still some possible upside.

Romo....I love the guy....but it's obvious his days are numbered in the NFL. What team would want to pony up premium draft picks for him? If it were us looking at an oft-injured 37 year old QB...and we traded a third round pick for him....we'd all be up in arms over it.

Honestly would rather have him be backup. Don't feel too sorry for him earning a fat paycheck on our bench.

By early November, yep. While we sit at 5-5.
Lol Denver is probably his worst option . They have no line, no running game. There defense is getting old, stepped back from 2015, is getting older amd just lost one of the best DC's in NFL history. Plus they have 2 teams in the division that are better them with a healthy Romo in Oakland and KC. And a guy who hasnt been able to stay healthy gets to look across the line at Mack, Houston/Hali/Ford, and Bosa/Ingram 6 times.....Ya good luck with that.

If he is smart he will go to KC or Houston. Denver he will basically be going back to the 2011-2013 Cowboys

I love Romo and hated seeing him on the sidelines, but he made 40 million dollars the past two years. If anyone needs done right by, it's the team and fan base. Man this ***** blows

IMO he did right by the team in the way he handled the transition. What could have been a disaster turned into a seamless move at the hardest position to see that. It completely altered the trajectory of the franchise. I can understand your feelings and I'm right there with you in terms of opportunity missed. I simply think this has been in the works for many months and Dallas couldn't wiggle out of the box their sense of reciprocal decency put them in.

Wasn't an option...Tony did not want to do that. Remember the "DoRight" rule.
Well then......Tony's happiness > Betterment of the Dallas Cowboys! Let's remember that when the effects of the "doright" decision rears it's ugly head during the next 2 seasons.
