I realize it's a beta but who plays the games before it gets to beta?
I mean, were these problems not there or are they problems that they can readily address so they don't worry about them and press forward, correct the greater issues and then tidy up the rest just before release?
When sprinting full speed and diving to prone, you can still pull the trigger and fire straight ahead accurately yet your gun is pointing 90 degrees to the left because the prone animation makes it face that way.
This will be the most frustrating thing ever, just like in COD if they leave it as is. People who run around, dive to their belly and are able to still accurately fire. I don't know why anyone thinks that is a good aspect of the game. I guess the makers of COD want to allow the better players to distinguish themselves from the average by being able to master these little cheesy tactics.
Since they've already nerfed the game to the point of being pitifully easy, they leave these little stupid things in there to be great separators between good and bad.
That's another thing I don't like about COD. The game is more about compounding perks and staying alive by any means necessary just long enough to use the big killstreaks. Why is gun-on-gun skill a secondary determining factor in COD?
I think this is why I like the BF series as much as I do. I really wish I would have gotten into BC2 a lot earlier than I did. Gun-on-gun counts for far more in this game than it does any other.
Halo used to be gun-on-gun. Halo 2 was perfect because a skilled player could separate himself just based on his ability. Not anymore, Halo has gone the direction of COD with all these default perks and weapon re-spawn changes. When you had the sniper in Halo 2, it wasn't coming back and the only way they could get it from you was to pry it from your cold dead hands. Now, they're timed and they pop up all the time.
Battlefield is one of the lone survivors in terms of gun-game ability. I really hope they don't start incorporating cheesy drop-shotting tactics and other COD/HALO aspects into their game. I was in a lobby last night on BC2 and we were running roughshod over people because we were better then they were. There were no great equalizers like care package chopper gunners, being undetectable on the map and kill cams.
The game is playing great. I really like it. I talked to a buddy who said he didn't want to play the beta because the flaws that come up might turn him off of the game. Not me. I love the fact that there is a public beta so they can address issues before release.
I think the game has the potential to be very, very good if they address the flaws. I have confidence that they will. This might be the only EA title to actually be supported to an acceptable standard. As I said earlier, I've gotten a "cannot connect" notice every time I have played NCAA. Burnout was very good until they started making you pay for everything that was initially given to you.
Once the bugs are worked out, I think this game will be top notch. Fix the prone-shooting problem, fix the intermittent button failure problem and keep me from falling through the map.
