I'm not sure who would give him that kind of money.

The guy still had almost 1300 all purpose yards last season while missing 3 games and sharing some of his snaps, he also finished the year strong. He is only a season removed from a year where he had 100+ catches. He is slowing down but he is way more accomplished recently than McFadden and it's not like he was awful last year. He will get a decent contract but won't break the bank as some are implying either.

This system is best suited to a one cut back. Forte, while a great RB, is really not well suited for this offense. The element he brings is already in place with Dunbar. At this stage Miller from the Dolphins is a much better option and a better fit.

He's a pass catcher now as he aged. A Marshall Faulk type. I'm not particularly interested.

Forte is leaving the bears at age 30. Would you be interested in picking him up on a 1-2 year contract to split carries with McFadden. If the price is right I'd consider it. This past year he had almost 900 yards and averaged 4.1 yards per carry. The only reason I prefer him over Lamar Miller is that Miller would want a longer contract and this way you can pick up one of the top RB's next year.

No thanks.
We need a younger RB to take over and be the long term solution. McFadden is aging, though he finished the season very nice. As I was in his corner ever since he was signed. However, we need someone to step in and be the bell cow long term. We can get that in the draft, rather a starter, or the eventual starter. Dunbar will have his role. I don't think Turbin will be back, though I would not complain. I would like to see what rob Smith can do, but they didn't use him last year when they could have in the last game.

why have two aging RBs on the roster? both of whom are past their prime. everyone is thinking of Forte from few years ago and as if he can catch lightning in a bottle....we have been down the road with aging RBs and have been disappointed often. specially Forte who has logged a lot of carries over the past few years and his performance is dropping. as parcells says, he is a progress stopper....get a RB that we can groom and have take over in a couple of years.....or go after lamar miller....

Why not just sign Miller - who is just 24 years old now? He can split carries with McFadden in 2016 and you can wait until 2017 to draft another running back to replace McFadden or add to the roster?

Miller would sign probably a 4 year deal and who ever we draft next year would get the work load and not split carries

Matt Forte is going to be a heck of a lot cheaper than Lamar Miller, though. Forte is also a better receiver. I know everyone keeps saying "no, you have to draft a RB" but if you aren't gonna draft one with your first 3 picks, I am A-OK with filling the need with a pickup like Forte. I don't think you are likely to get a starting-caliber back past the 3rd.

If your asking why can't they split carries is because Miller is getting paid more than a back to split carries and the running backs next year can handle a big workload (Leonard Fournette, Samaje Perine, Nick Chubb, or other)

No, my question is if we have Miller, why do we have to draft one that high in 2017?

No thank you. He's had a good career. All purpose back but on the wrong side of 30. Draft the future feature back.

There's really no such thing as a feature back anymore. That kind of RB is dying out thanks to changes in offensive philosophies, and fans have been slow to realize it.

In 2002/2003, there were something like 13 RBs who carried the ball 290 times or more. In 2015, there was ONE. and one guy who was close enough (doug martin at 288) so i'll say TWO.

The position has now become a "main" guy who gets 180-220 carries a year, and then 2 more guys who spell him/play on 3rd down. People keep on saying "we need a bell cow/feature back", no we don't. The NFL has changed. your bell cow on offense is the QB now, and RB is a complementary piece.

I understand where you're coming from and the trend has been going away from it due to college teams using a platoon system. However, the 2014 Cowboys and Marshawn Lynch's Seahawks show that success can be had via the feature back philosophy. The Vikings and Rams are committed to it as well.

I think the RB by committee approach is starting to shift back to what most of us were accustomed to because College coaches are beginning to reshape the philosophy. Nick Saban used Derrick Henry as a feature back. Les Miles,
Jimbo Fisher, and Urban Meyer also featured Fournette, Cook and Elliott.

Hopefully Dallas sees the recent success they had as well as the Seahawks success using a feature back while recognizing the success that Alabama, Florida St. and Ohio St. have had featuring their backs with good QB play and strong defense.

Despite dunbar going down the rb position was really productive. What answer were you looking for? I guess my answer is "really well".

You have to be joking. Really well is what Murray did in 2014. Average and ineffective would be the two words I would use for the Dallas run game. The ONLY thing that did go as expected was McChicken staying healthy. Which is sure to NOT happen again.
